First of all... .major round of applause for you. You stepped up and protected your wife and baby like a motherfucking champ and I'd give you an earth shattering high five if I could.

Second, have her join the Fed is Best and Fearless Formula Feeders facebook groups of she's wanting more support. Truthfully, as long as she has access to clean water, there virtually no discernable difference between breast milk and formula feeding. If she likes books "Lactivism" by Courtney Jung changed my life (and quite possible saved it).

When she's back to her old self, you two will know when the time is right to bring family in. Grandparents aren't necessary for a happy, healthy child and BEING a grandparent isn't a right, it's a privilege.

First off - congratulations! Your son is adorable - such attitude at such a young age!

Us insufficient glandular tissue (IGT) ladies are rare. I'm in the same boat. Our breastfeeding journey sounds so familiar. Pumping did nothing for me - so I quickly dumped that. I did stick with the breastfeeding and then bottle routine for almost 6 months. (After two months of working on breastfeeding I was able to produce 30ml every couple of hours). And while my son was mostly formula fed, you cannot tell the difference at all. He is healthy, active and meeting/exceeding all his developmental benchmarks.

I think your perspective is so so so healthy. I've been reading the book Lactivism (http://www.amazon.ca/Lactivism-Fundamentalists-Physicians-Politicians-Breastfeeding/dp/0465039693) while pregnant with #2. I have a whole new perspective on breastfeeding and what my true goals/reasons for doing this are. Actually, reading this book has given me a lot of closure over the stress, tears and guilt I felt for those first couple of months after Griffin's birth.
