Hello,

Congrats on your BTC find! The internet is a dangerous place, and you're talking some Buku money here. I have some suggestions for you for the moment, and I'm going to break it down a little assuming you are new to Cryptocurrency:

  1. For right now, "You don't have Bitcoin". Don't tell anyone for any reason, no friends, no acquaintances, no internet, no Reddit. This amount of money turns people very dark very fast and you don't want to deal with the headache. Find yourself an Attorney that specializes in financials that you trust. You only need to worry about taxes if you cash out for USD, of which don't do that yet, holding it will be the best practice as BTC is still growing.

  2. Absolutely move this money to a safe, yet accessible hardware wallet. I recommend purchasing a Ledger Nano S, like.. right now, immediately: https://www.amazon.com/Ledger-Nano-Cryptocurrency-Hardware-Wallet/dp/B01J66NF46/

  3. BTC Split recently and there is an equal amount of BCH attached to that wallet you found. The BCH needs to be separated from the BTC to ensure that you can own both of them safely. The Ledger Nano S will allow you to hold both currencies in the same device. This step can be tricky, as you'll need to make a new Bitcoin (BTC) wallet, and a new Bitcoin Cash (BCH) wallet. You'll need to run a Bitcoin client on your computer in order to use your current public and private keys to send that Bitcoin to your new wallet on the Ledger safely. You'll then do the same thing with a Bitcoin Cash Client. The reason you have to do both is because when you reveal your private key in order to move the BCH, it wouldn't be wise to leave your BTC in that wallet since the private key has been exposed and someone could steal it.

Please take the steps to secure those funds safely. Never give ANYONE any passwords, keys, or any other information about your Bitcoin. Once the money is transferred or lost you can't get it back. Try to keep this investment on the DL as much as you can because I'm serious, you'll have all these people coming out of the wood work trying to hit you up for money including your own family. Greed is a powerful thing.

If you have any additional questions on the Ledger process or the splitting process with the Bitcoin Cash (BCH) just fire away, I literally just did this last week for the umpteenth time and would be happy to send you a writeup on how to do it all. I previously was using paper wallets stored in a vault but the Ledger is so much better and safer.

Also, you're gonna get a lot of "experts" telling you what to reinvest this into. If you don't want to kick yourself later: Do not sell your BTC, do not reinvest your BTC into any other cryptocurrency. No Litecoin, no Ether, no Dash, Monero, Steem, Stratis, no ICOs (all ICOS are scams), nothing. A lot of people will also try to sway you off the Bitcoin "Bullet Train" and onto their slow fiat currency Donkey Express options like Mutual Funds and all that jazz "for safety". Hop on www.coinmarketcap.com and look at Bitcoin's chart but zoomed out to monthly and yearly. Keep an eye on those two charts only, smile at the haters, and send them on their way.

Take care and good luck! You have a bright future ahead of you.

If you're going to go that route, pick up a Trezor or Nano Ledger S. A hardware wallet (cold storage) is the most secure.

Amazon is offering the Ledger Nano S as a lightning deal for $69.99 if anyone is interested.

u/MechAegis · 4 pointsr/Bitcoin

Sweet, glad I waited to buy, cheaper than Amazon

u/SirEDCaLot · 3 pointsr/gunpolitics

Excellent :)

For wallet, the best security is a hardware wallet. I suggest the Ledger Nano S. One thing- when you set it up it gives you 24 words to write down. Keep those safe! With those 24 words you (or anyone else) can clone your Ledger and spend all your money. All $3 of it.

coinbase.com is a decent exchange to deal with. Easy to use.

Some banks have anti-crypto policies on their credit cards. So if you use a credit card to buy more crypto, Google it first and make sure it's not one that will give you flack for using cryptocurrency.

And feel free to ask any questions you may have :)

I just bought a backup one. What I did: Go to Amazon, look at list of sellers, check the prime box (optional), find a good seller with lots of ratings, click add to cart. link to sellers

Hey guys... I should probably know better by now and I'm almost embarrassed to ask this, but... is it safe to buy HD wallets off Amazon?

Hodl on for dear life. People have money at stake and they all want yours. Welcome to the jungle.....and get yourself a Ledger Nano S before someone sticks a keylogger on your computer and steals all your coins from the comfort of their home.

u/Flatking · 2 pointsr/Bitcoin

I appreciate the reply, I'm just starting to get on the ladder and it's quite a steep learning curve!

Is something like this a good thing to invest in?

I'm guessing the process would be buy on coinbase and move to my wallet over and over?

u/Twolipth · 2 pointsr/CryptoCurrency

It's a physical USB that can store cryptos so you can set it aside and let the coin grow without having to worry about something happening to it, say you keep it in a computer wallet and your computer gets hacked and they have access to your wallet...if you have your crypto in the ledger they don't have access to or even know you own whatever is on it.

If you scroll down on Ledger's retailers page they link to their official Amazon Store. I only wonder why their Amazon page has them in stock but buying directly from their website is still sold out.

A "just launched" seller is selling it for 39 USD on Amazon. I'm thinking to jump on one. Is it safe to buy a LNS from sellers other than the official distributors https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/ol/B01J66NF46/ref=mw_dp_olp?ie=UTF8&condition=all.

u/poulpe · 1 pointr/Bitcoin

I checked amazon UK and it's at an 189£ which makes it an impressive 130% mark up vs the 99 USD price on trezor.io. I could not find it in Amazon FR or DE. On the other hand I got my ledger nano s delivered in 48h for 60£ (however it looks like it is now unavailable on amazon...)

u/poorbrokebastard · 1 pointr/btc

A hardware wallet is totally worth it even if you're poor. The Ledger Nano is the safest way to securely store multiple coins on one device IMO. You can have ETH, BTC and BCH all on this one device, with max security, much better than using wallets on your computer.

u/grebaptiste · 1 pointr/Anarcho_Capitalism

First of all, there are tons of crypto subreddits where your question would fit much better, r/bitcoin for example. Now, a cold wallet (offline and not connected to the internet) is ideal, such as a Ledger. But I saw you're only buying for around $100, so that might not be a reasonable option. There are many software wallets that you can just install on your computer and store your bitcoins in. I don't know the details but I'm sure you can find enough about it using a quick Google search.

Where do I find this 12 word backup in the Edge wallet? Edge allows me to create a recovery token which I have done that is supposed to allow me to recover username and password, but I don't know if would recover if my phone was lost or stolen. I have over $1k in bitcoin so I think I will buy this then https://www.amazon.ca/Ledger-Nano-Cryptocurrency-Hardware-Wallet/dp/B01J66NF46/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=bitcoin&qid=1549748745&s=gateway&sr=8-2

u/ChildishForLife · 1 pointr/QuadrigaCX

Oh like buy on Quadriga and then withdraw it? I personally only use the Quadriga wallet so I am not sure which ones are a good choice. Hardware wallets are always a good option as they are secure and you have complete control over your keys. I don't have enough invested in quad right now to justify one, but maybe later.

Trezor currently on sale.

Hope this helps!

I checked the prices on Amazon.co.uk.

Specifically:

Ledger Nano S: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B01J66NF46

Trezor I seem to have gotten the price wrong on this one. I saw one for £119.99 but this is slightly cheaper:

u/MixxMaster · 1 pointr/ledgerwallet

Sorry for repeating what I said, but this seems to be a highly charged topic. There is conflicting official word on this. On Slack, they say that they do not sell on Amazon and to only buy from their own site. Here, they say that they do sell on Amazon, and of course to do due diligence. On their retailer site (https://www.ledgerwallet.com/retailers), they are all Amazon stores. The US one (Ledger HQ) exists, but has no products, but there are resellers that are listed under Ledger Nano S and are supported by Amazon itself. Of course, even their reseller list may be incomplete or out of date. I bought mine on Amazon, the store was Optimal Living, and it works perfectly. Attestation FTW.

u/Blais_Of_Glory · 1 pointr/BitcoinBeginners

If you're planning on investing, definitely get a hardware wallet. Yes, they cost money but it's worth it for the security. Trezor seems to be the best hardware wallet that I've found and it's currently $78 on Amazon (which is a pretty good deal). The other popular hardware wallets include the KeepKey (Amazon link) and Ledger Nano S (Amazon link). Check out /r/TREZOR to learn more about the Trezor wallet.

u/The_Oldest_Post · 1 pointr/Bitcoin

Yes, according to questions asked on Amazon.

Seems simple.. guy tested it too.

u/boulderrrr · 1 pointr/Bitcoin

If buying from Amazon, choose one of the sellers that is listed on Ledger's website as a trusted retailer. I ordered one off Amazon yesterday being sold by Mintcell. I had initially placed an order on Amazon, but it was from a random third party seller so I cancelled the transaction. The Mintcell one was on Prime and less than $1 more.

I would return it, because ive heard of the device being opened up physically and tampered with that way. No new seed pase phrase will help you with this, from what i understand. (Im no expert) return it, buy from verified seller.
