I use this light to test the glow on my pops. Originally bought it to repair surfboards (UV cure resin)
It's also fun to shine on pops that aren't GitD. You'd be surprised at what pops fluoresce brightly under UV.

This is what I have. 51 UV LED flashlight. It'll light up your Pops 1,000,000 more than natural light, and even better than your average tube blacklight.
Okay, I've killed hundreds of scorpions on my property and have developed a technique that works.
First, you need to prep the battle area. Buy some Cy-Kick concetrated spray and a sprayer to use it with. Hit any cracks, baseboards, entry ways, and places where you've definitely seen them. This will only occasionally kill them, but it definitely softens them up.
Next up, get a UV/Blacklight flashlight. Scorpions glow very brightly in the dark when you shine this on them. Then, have two tools for killing them on hand:
I go on roughly weekly hunts during the summer and those techniques have proved to be very effective.
Don't bother with a blow torch. They will almost surely get away in time. The stick and spray is a much more reliable method.
And don't worry about getting too close. They don't move very fast (relatively speaking) and I've never seen one that will attack -- they just try to hide, if they know you see them. Wear sturdy shoes and have your UV light, stick, and spray on hand and you're practically a scorpion killing machine.

The trick is to use the least amount of loca as possible. The more loca the more washed out it will look. You may be able to adjust the pot to get better contrast. The uv light you use also makes a difference. I use to use a nail drying set up, but that was a nightmare, this flash light has been working well for me:

Ahhh yes... As others have said, it varies house to house, but I was one of the unfortunate ones with a bunch of them. :-/ Ironically I also moved from the east coast, so maybe they're following us? Fuckers.
Anyway hire an exterminator if they get bad, it really does help. Check yelp reviews, some really suck. Also, get a black light like this one and go outside at night and see what you see. If you spot a bunch of them, well...
If you want a referral for a good exterminator, let me know. My house was literally overrun when I moved in, and I haven't seen one in a year and a half since they started handling it.
You have to get a special flashlight and use it before each throw. Usually people who play at night also use small leds taped to the bottom of the disc for better vision

A deer target. Costs about 80 bucks for a good one and it will last for years. Here's the one we got him:

You can probably get one at Cabelas or Academy for a little less though.
I'll ask my wife for more ideas when she gets home tonight too.

I you are looking for a inexpensive solution ($16), I have http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001Q70A0G/ref=sr_ph?ie=UTF8&qid=1419315346&sr=1&keywords=uv+light and it works quite well. It seems to be built sturdy and shows stains pretty easily.

I bought this one and was disappointed at first. It was super dim. Then I dropped it accidentally. It's bright enough to make my carpet glow when the lights are on. Every now and then I have to shake it to get to go full brightness. For the purpose of urine finding in a house, this is the cheapest option I could find. I've had mine for a almost a year.
They line up because I kept the camera on a tripod (and didn't move it).
The pictures were taken in my closet so I could have as little visible light as possible for the UV shots. The visible shots were taken with the closet light on, and the UV shots were lit by an LED UV flashlight. I used long exposures and waved the UV light around to get even lighting in those shots.
The camera isn't capturing the UV light, it is capturing light that is absorbed from the UV source and then reemitted in the visible spectrum.
UV LED flashlights are available on Amazon. Not bad, $17.50.

If you're the easily grossed-out type, do NOT buy one of those readily-available UV flashlights for cheap.

Something like this should work.
I just ordered one yesterday on Amazon, it was this one - seems like it's something I should own!
Good idea about the tongs, I'll pick one up and should be scorpion ready then :D
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001Q70A0G/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1 This one works really well for me
OMG. I'm so sorry for your friend's losses. That is absolutely horrible.
Your friend needs to run out right now and get a high powered UV LED flashlight. Something like this:
UV Flashlight
ALL fluids for a car are UV reactive, so you should be able to detect where it was if it hasn't rained yet. Depending on the type of antifreeze, it could be green, yellow, orange, red, or blue in color and should light up very brightly with the linked flashlight.
One of these
Get a blacklight and deliver!
