That I can do! I will tell you though that i'm still very new at this so my approach was/is kind of weird. Before the Arduino I bought a remote controlled outlet kit and had fun turning my lamp on and off for awhile.

But then I got curious and busted the remote open. And found it had a little transmitter that was talking to the outlet converter that i plugged my lamp into. Click the switch, it sends a signal to the converter, lamp goes on. Click it again, it sends another, lamp goes off. After a little digging I found the frequency needed to talk to the converter (315 Mhz) and ordered a 315Mhz transmitter and receiver kit which would plug directly into the arduino. Here's where the coding comes in.

I now was on the right frequency but I still needed to know a few more things about the converter so I could talk to it ( send it a signal). BUT because I had the receiver I could listen to the communication the old remote made with the converter. So basically my first code used the receiver to eavesdrop on a private talk to hear a password. Then all I needed to do was create a loop that sends the signal with the transmitter to turn it on and off after a given time.

void setup(){
Serial.begin(9600);
mySwitch.enableTransmit(7);
mySwitch.setProtocol(2);
mySwitch.setPulseLength(800);
}
void loop(){
mySwitch.send(13330,15);
delay(64800000);

mySwitch.send(13322,15);//signal to turn off
delay(21600000);// ms..converted to 6 hrs
}

I personally don't think a phal would work in that setting. It would survive, but it won't thrive. I'd recommended a simple desk grow lamp, I've got one and my orchids (and other plants) love it, plus it looks like a desk lamp. The one I have is this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003DRBOJ8/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1422392462&sr=8-1&pi=SL75

oh no!, i live in a basement so the light here is very minimal, i had it by the window but where the window is pointed it gets sun only in the later part of the day, so i moved it under my desk lamp to see if it would be better. i don't know if it is adequate enough for growth though

You could try a full spectrum lamp--they're supposed to imitate natural light.

Ahahah ISN'T HE CUTE? The snails name was Jared! Boyfriend and I found him in a parking lot! Sometime shortly after the pictures were taken I declared Jared as TooGross, but for a while he was cool. I don't mind icky stuff but snails get weird fast. I love their little snail mouths, they've.. like,

=3 faces. Little mewing kitty mouths. 'course, I think they are filled with bunches of snailteeth that are very small, which is scary, but thats ok. Jared and I were bros.

And ah! The watch stuff is from Boyfriend. He collects watches as a hobby, but he has also gotten into watch making and watch repair. So in the background of a lot of the pictures you can probably see some disassembled (mostly American made) pocket watches. I take pictures at the watch desk because he uses a daylight lamp (like this) to see better. Um. It is very nail polish friendly! ;)

Mmm. We're being punished here with a BEAUTIFUL SPRING and horrible horrible headache-inducing allergies. That is uh, my theory anyway. I don't really have early-season allergies; some late-Fall eyeball itchiness but for the most part.. I am good. I like to blame big things like "the weather" for my problems though, makes me feel better when I acknowledge I can do nothing to fix it. ;)

& AW YOU ARE ADORABLE. I am totally weird, like-- I DO NOT LISTEN TO MUSIC? Idk how else to admit that besides COMING RIGHT OUT WITH IT. Legit, here is my Itunes Library. The first 3 songs are background audio to an iOS app boyfriend and I were developing-- we had a friend write the audio for it, so uh, iTunes abducted those songs. and the last is a eulogy i gave for a friend last year, he lived abroad (INTERNET) so i did a video eulogy for him.

BUT LEGIT

NO MUSIC-MUSIC.

i feel like bruno mars has had a place in my life lately, but only because my youngest sister is 13 and spent eight hours yesterday singing his songs in her bedroom. # w#

What about something like this?

I actually have this (but the one outlet version) which lets me set specific times for different days of the week. I connect a lamp like this to it, which is pointed up and at the corner of my room. All together, it cost around $30.

It works AMAZINGLY, but I'm still an idiot in the morning. Sometimes I cover my head and/or shut the light off and go back to bed

What do you think about Lake country's "smart" pads and hex logic pads by chemical guys? I recently got some hex logic pads and the hexagons are like falling apart..I'm thinking about just switching to flat because of that.

How do you clean your foam pads?

Also for a swirl finder light, I have a lamp: http://www.amazon.com/Sunlight-Spectrum-Simulates-Daylight-Touch/dp/B003DRBOJ8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370595072&sr=8-1&keywords=full+spectrum+lamp

that I leave in my room, but can I use this to look for swirls on the car than buying the swirl finder light? I can carry it around easily.
