I use a Linksys USB network adapter, a USB OTG adapter and some CAT5e flat cable as a mobile network toolkit. It is fantastic.

Try one of these. Relatively cheap and helped me enormously. Added stability as well as speed.
Sorry - didn't see that part. Yeah, I'm not even sure if there is a Chromebook with one. This is a cheap(ish) solution.
Right, this is a bit of work, but it results in ZERO blurring or artifacts.
I use this usb/ethernet dongle. You might need a crosswire ethernet cord (I used one), but you might not depending on the hardware.
Then you need to manually configure IP address, subnet mask, and gateway on both so they can see one another. Enable internet sharing on the PC (and then I specifically made rules for the Steam ports). Then change the policy on the PC to make unrecognised networks private by default.
Here are the image cheat sheets I made. Oh, and when you start Steam on the Chromebook (with Wi-Fi off) it will say it can't connect and you can choose to start in offline mode. Do it in offline mode, and when it opens it will recognise your In-Home Streaming network and populate the Games library.
It really is worth it.

That would be fun. Definitely a bummer though, have you considered something like This? I have no experience with them personally, but it may be worth looking in too. Drivers would probably be an issue though.
edit: So I looked into it for you, according to this (scroll to 3.2 and look for USB Ethernet adapters) there are some that are compatible with FreeBSD.
So something along these lines would work to replace the wireless connected with wired?
