Oh man. Safe Area is great.

I also HIGHLY recommend Logavina Street: Life and Death in a Sarajevo Neighborhood. I plowed through this in less than a week a few years back. Ms. Demick profiles blended ethnicity families during the war. Super interesting insight on how many people thought the whole thing was nonsense.

Safe Area is great but it's mostly about Bosniaks saying "fuck the Serbs" though Sacco does talk about the paramilitary Bosniaks who didn't exactly help the situation.

I got Misha Glenny's The Fall of Yugoslavia through the Overdrive app. I never finished. It was extremely detailed so if you can absorb that I'm jealous. Logavina Street was also on Overdrive through my library (Philadelphia.)

The Bosnia List was another amazing read. I cried. I want to meet Kenan so bad and buy him whiskey. I liked this as much as Logavina Street, it really presents the human aspect of that horrible, disgusting genocide.

I am obsessed with the Balkans and even did a presentation this past semester on the war. I do recommend starting with those books!
