I mostly use the Apple Pencil with Notability or LiquidText. I use Goodnotes a little. Some of my professors use Google Drive, so I need to use those apps from time to time. I also like Outlook for email, iBooks and Kindle Reader for different texts. Duet Display turns my iPad into a secondary screen for my MacBook Pro. I use Scanner Pro to turn all my syllabi and other handouts into PDFs. iStudiez Pro helps keep my schedule in order, and Quizlet helps me study. I use Affinity Photo for processing my Nikon RAW files ( I let my Adobe CC subscription lapse, I just don't find myself using my dSLR that much lately.) I also use a MIDI keyboard with Garage Band and Pro Metronome for piano practice when I don't have access to a real piano/piano lab/practice room.

I keep games and other entertainment apps off the iPad since I'm trying to study and don't want to make it any easier for me to goof off.

Case, Screen Protector, Apple Pencil sleeve, tether to keep my adapter on my cable, stand, keyboard, and holder for using my iPad as a second screen for my MacBook Pro. I also use Anker cables, charger port, and portable charger.

I'm using a Logitech K810 / K811. It isn't cheap but you can switch between three different paired devices with one button press, it has a backlight, it's great to type on and I've charged it two months ago and I use it almost every day. Ask me more about it you want.

I have that, and it felt just a tad too small to type comfortably, although I did really like the feel of the keys. I ended up getting a Logitcech K811 and I absolutely love it. Just like the K810, except the K811 is the Mac version to the K810's Windows version.

I have the Smart Keyboard from apple which i love but it is falling apart a tad bit. I used to use this one of my iPad Air logitech easy switch

I have a Logitech K811 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0099SMFP2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_pN95Ab6YFE1VQ and it's my favorite keyboard period. I've used all of the Mac keyboards: wireless, wired, and the 2017 style, and it felt much better. Battery life is really good and it's simple to recharge. I recommend it over any other Mac keyboards from the past decade. It's not mechanical, but everyone who had used it has preferred it to their keyboard.

I'm surprised you've blasted both so concretely without ever having owned or even tried one.

On Amazon the Logictech keyboard scores 4.6/5.0 from people who've actually used one. The Moshi keyboard scores as highly, though with fewer reviews.

In fact both Keyboards score higher than Apple's own keyboards on Apple Store.

I bought the Logitech Easy Switch keyboard thinking it might be cool to switch between my iPad and MBP and it ended up being my favorite keyboard I've ever used. It feels really nice, is similar to the Apple Wireless but has just enough extra consideration and lighted keys to take it over the top. I will actually go out of my way to use it over my MacBook keys.

There are a lot of great choices out there. Logitech's K811 is also a great choice with backlit keys and allows three device profiles. The more you look, the more you'll realize that you're paying a premium price to have matching colors, slim profile, backlit keys and aluminum finish.

Logitech K811 - Think Apple wireless keyboard with black illuminated keys.. Also, allows for pairing with multiple devices and was switching between them.

Works well, nice to type on. You can also save 3 Bluetooth presets so you can keep it synced with an iPad or something. I usually play in a dark room, so the backlight really helps, as well.

Get yourself a Bluetooth keyboard for nearly half the price, like the Logitech K811

I too tried many foldable keyboards; most are junk. I use a Logitech K811 now. It's very thin and still portable even though it doesn't fold.

I'm facing the same dilemma.

I decided against the Smart Keyboard as I figured for the same $, I could get a keyboard that would be a matter match for me and my larger hands.

I too am thinking of going with a Magic Keyboard and using the Canopy perhaps.

Alternatively, I'm looking at the Logitech K811 keyboard or a Minila Magestouch Mechanical

Of course, there is always the alternative of using a standard backlit keyboard (the K800, for example) and learning to treat the Win-key as Command, the Alt key as Option, and the Insert key as useless.
