Like $50, work great. No power needed. It's not that big of a deal to be unheated in the winter usually, not unless the plumbing runs on an exterior wall.

Up it to $40 and get a bidet. This one should fit the bill.

I just bought this recently.... Shit you not. Well worth the buy! Easy to control the water flow and afterward the TP is just to dry. I spent a bit extra on mine so it could have a feature for the ladies as well.

No need to wait. I've got bidets in both my bathrooms and will never go back. You can get attachments that go on your existing toilet and require no real plumbing work for pretty cheap. Example

We recently installed the Luxe Bidet Neo 185 Elite Series ($43) and I prefer it over my hugely expensive BioBidet DIB.

The standard round seat that was on the toilet when we bought the house was angled after it was installed, but the seat bumpers arrived the next day and now it sits level and we have no problems.

As far as operation, I really like it a lot. I chose this model because the DIB sprayer is REALLY far back. I have to use the feminine just to wash the backside. The "normal" backside was hits in the crack of the butt and is useless.
The Luxe hits right where it's supposed to. Now, there are two washes: feminine and "normal." Because of the design the two jets are side by side which results in the sprayer being the tiniest bit off center. So one wash will spray your parts a bit to the right and the other one will spray a bit to the left. It's only the tiniest bit, but since you mentioned angles, I thought I would let you know.

We have REALLY high water pressure where we live so we purchased a Luxe Metal T-adapter with Shut-off Valve to reduce the water pressure. That allows us to move the dial about 1/8" for adjustment instead of about 1/32"

The feminine sprayer does go forward all the way and hits ever feminine spot there is. If one doesn't close their legs, a stream of water will shoot out and hit the wall across the room. :/

We have no leaks, the seat no longer sits at an angle and I love it!

If you want to wash your lady parts, one like this would be easier to use, though if you already purchased one it might not really be worth it.

I bought THIS ONE, (on sale now it seems for 32 bucks) Love it and I bought some for others who also love it.

This is the Luxe one I got.. I have nothing to compare it to but it works fine for me. Cold water only.

I spent some time in Pakistan years ago and became a "squat toilet" convert as well. Us westerners got toilets all wrong.

I have found that the combination of a squattie potty and toilet mounted bidet convey all the benefits of a squat toilet + hose but without the expense, hassle, permanence (I rent) and inconvenience for others that would go along with installing an actual squat toilet. The pair cost about $75 and took 10 minutes to install.

This is definitely the way to go.

I had suffered from very mild but chronic hemorrhoids for years. Once I started using this setup, they were gone in a week and haven't come back. I'll never go back to sitting and wiping.

As others have pointed out, any stool will do, but the squattie potty has the advantage of being designed to be easy to clean, and to slide out of the way under the toilet when not in use, reducing bathroom clutter. If you're going to buy a stool for bathroom use, this is the one to buy.

I was actually looking at picking up something like this, it's small, fits right under your toilet seat, looks easy to use and easy to install... I'm sure we'd get used to the cold water in no time. :)

If you have a steam or hot water radiator next to your toilet you can get the cold water only option. My husband sweat a for foot section of copper pipe that looped around behind the heater and warmed the water to tepid. Previously you had maybe only a second or two before the water was got REALLY, REALLY cold. The radiator warms the water in the winter and you don't need a heater in the summer because the water is just cool and it feels fine.

You can buy bidet attachments to modify the toilet in your home. There are non permanent ones, but still check with whomever you're renting from to make sure its ok.

Yea there's a lot of good ones on Amazon. This is the one i have at home. It's really easy to install - took me only 10 minutes and I have no plumbing knowledge whatsoever. It's so simple and effective.

DO IT!!! You won't regret it (after the first week). It is an 'odd concept' at first... Just something that we generally seem to shy away from in the US. And since it's not been part of our process since the go, when we were first learning it, it seems too foreign to most adults now.

In speaking with my international friends about it, they've admitted feeling that it is 'gross' that we don't have them in the US - generally just viewing it as a "yeah, duh - having one is better than not having one, but if you don't understand basic hygiene, we're not here to make you feel bad about it". Then, when we traveled in Europe a couple of years back, they were everywhere - it was just a normal part of the whole process... "Has to be something to this, right?"

I'd largely forgotten about it, assuming that the upgrade would require the whole toilet to be replaced and so therefore too costly... Then during a recent business trip north, I visited an associates house which had an upgrade similar to this installed - so I had to ask for his input... Glowing recommendations from him and his wife - "worth every penny and it will actually pay for itself when you consider TP usage"... Then just a short time later, I see them popping up for ~$30 on Amazon, so I figured I could gamble $30 on a trial.

I can't imagine going back now... Aside from the hygienics of it all, there is a huge change in TP consumption. We're estimating a 2/3 reduction going forward, which is pretty awesome. I know it seems a silly thing to be enthusiastic about, but I feel as if I'd been living willfully ignorant to the reality of how we go about this process in the US - and that I've now had the blinders removed from my eyes.
