Capitalism is just the name for an ownership system. While communism involves ownership of all companies by the state, capitalism allows for private ownership. Firstly, don't equate capitalism with freedom. Freedom of the individual does not automatically follow from private ownership, if there is concentration of ownership among too few individuals which overly restrict the choice for the rest. Secondly, don't equate capitalism with free markets. Markets is the name for an exchange system... markets are inevitable and pop up everywhere unexpectedly. Even communist countries had markets--it's not because all companies are state owned that markets with a supply and demand function cannot arise. It is not well known that the soviets were among the most active professional traders on world markets during the cold war. I have this from Jack Schwager's Market Wizards
