I have had a similar experience, but it was on a normal day and I was lying in my bed. The intense green plants everywhere are then the fear of leaving my body brought my senses back to my body.

Check out Robert E. Monroe's "Journeys out of the Body" If you want to read one mans account of learning all about his strange experiences doing this stuff.

Also Robert Bruce's "Astral Dynamics". He's a bit of a kook and his ideas are frequently in his own world, but the methods to achieve the desired states work well. Here's his book online for free https://www.dmt-nexus.me/doc/Astral%20Dynamics.pdf

The words "astral projection" and "out of body" experiences, catch a lot of flack on Reddit, but if you're looking for a perspective that may be very pragmatic (bordering on closeminded practicality, IMHO) Check out /r/luciddreaming. They refer to it as a WILD or Willfully Induced Lucid Dream. I'm not so sure they are the same stuff, because its hard to know objectively what each of us experiences, but people on that forum are hell bent on explaining that it is a lucid dream. If you have some patience and understanding, you might try asking them about their opinion. You will get a different opinion on the experience depending on who you ask.

Ask a buddhist, he might say one thing, ask an athiest, he will say another, a christian, lucid dreamer, astral projectionist, psychiatrist...

You get a lot of speculation, because, as far as I am aware, thats all we have. Robert E. Monroe tried to employ all kinds of study and tests about the stuff, but there is nothing too conclusive about his results. There are some very old books on the subject, written in the early 1900s that are interesting to read, as well as many more that started to surface around the 1950's. There are possible references to the OBE, but not too many explicit ones, from basically the beginning of written word.

I don't really have any advice for you, other than pursuing the ability to consciously induce this state if you are interested enough. It's perfectly safe, and if you have the focus and discipline, you can use this 90 day template for learning all of the attention and focus based skills to achieve it. http://www.amazon.com/Mastering-Astral-Projection-Out-Body/dp/0738704679

Thats the book I used, and I was very happy with the results. Its very easy, if you have the time, and it makes things very interesting.

Good luck.

EVERYDAY. Seriously whatever technique you are using keep at it everyday and don't get lazy. It's just like working out. Put in the time and you'll get the results.

Now having said that Mastering Astral Projection has been the most successful for me. I'm still getting over a fear of projecting due to some horror stories I've read but I've gotten to vibrations with the program and most of the exercises are just good relaxation techniques even if you don't project.

Good luck on your journey!

This is the book for anyone curious!
