I saw free counselors through my University. I also saw a counselor at my high school.

Depression has a huge effect on anxiety and vice versa. Mental illnesses tend to be interconnected. At the very least, if you flat out refuse to get professional help, read a few books on GAD and CBT. I didn't even know I had problems with anxiety until I spent 8 months physical ill with mysterious symptoms. After many hospital stays, countless tests and seeing several specialists, we finally found that the link to my physical illness was stress and anxiety. The mind has a weird way of trying to find outlets for anxiety.

Hey! It sounds like you might be dealing with a self perpetuating anxiety cycle. It might have been triggered by quitting, or might have just been from the panic attack. Getting panic attacks often leaves the body in high alert indefinitely, like a fire that keeps burning as long as it gets oxygen. There are communities and resources of other people dealing with it, and it’s treatable!

A clinical psychotherapist highly recommended it to me.

I also quit caffeine after a panic attack, and I think the panic attack has even more severe after effects than quitting the caffeine, and that quitting caffeine causes symptoms that can lead to anxiety. It’s a cycle, but your on the way to breaking it!

If you absolutely refuse to go to a professional due to your career, try doing some research for what the best treatments are and then follow those without a therapist. It will take a lot of work, especially without a therapist, but these things are treatable.

Nope, you're not the only one. There are many ways that people can work on lowering anxiety, including exercise, getting out of a stressful environment, doing more fun things, sleeping and eating better, meditation, and cognitive behavioral therapy, among others. Here is a book that helps specifically with the tendency to overthink things, and here is a website with exercises to treat anxiety and mood disorders. Both of these resources use cognitive behavioral therapy, which teaches a way of questioning automatic thoughts that may be destructive. It might also be worth it, if you feel like your worrying is seriously impacting your life, to check out a therapist, psychiatrist, or therapy group that will be able to support you in better managing your worrying.

Subreddits that talk about this include r/getting_over_it, r/AnxietyPanic, r/panicparty, and r/anxiety. They may or may not be helpful; however, since listening to other people worry may contribute to your overall worrying (or perhaps that is just me).

Please note: I listed a bunch of resources for people that experience an anxiety disorder. I'm not trying to suggest that you for sure have GAD or something similar (a certain severity has to be present for that to be the case), but trying out resources for others with similar or stronger worries may be helpful for you.

I am sure that there are local resources to get counseling and help with anxiety. How about at your school? Also, check out books at your library or online. For example this one. I am also sure there are plenty of online resources about overcoming anxiety. Just reach out, don't give up and work on it. Things will get better.

How about having a look at Mastery of Your Anxiety and Worry by Kraske and Barlow? Barlow was one the leaders in CBT. MAW is a classic client workbook chock full of useful information about what is going in your body and mind, and how you can change what's happening to you.

If panic attacks are more your thing, get Mastery of Your Anxiety and Panic. You can get either one from Amazon's Kindle store and start feeling better right now.
