The Tv is too old, the older CRT tv's are based of analog signal that the government told the stations to scrap it and go digital. So what you would need to do is get digital converter box to accept the signal from the antenna, and convert it back to analog for the tv to understand and display correctly.

I did have great signal in my old apartment, but I also had views of rooftops.
In my new apartment I no longer have views of rooftops, therefore not enough signal.
Moreover, I had an antenna and also a booster similar to this one.
You can buy a digital tuner for the older TVs.

What type of antenna? Roof mounted is far superior to the popular wall mounted antennas.

I bought one of these for my brother who has a Vizio smart tv and an antenna. Works great.
I'm assuming you're in Dorm Room or some kind of similar situation and there actually is an active raw signal coming from the port.(If not you will need to contact the cable company in your area and likely get their proprietary box as others have mentioned.)
You will need a cheap digital tuner box to pick up the channels and interpret them. That TV doesn't have a tuner. Also you can't convert coax into HDMI, you need a digital tuner box if and the coax would plug into that. You can get a box like this one to accomplish this.
The converters are for running hdmi over coax. I am not shocked that everything is mad cause it's probably getting weird signals.
