These MEElectronics ones get recommended around here sometimes. I have a pair and I really like the sound they have. They also have a right angle connector which fixes the main problem I have with many earbuds. (The cable getting mangled near the connector) In addition they come with a nice little case that (depending on the size of your pockets) you can keep them in to prevent them from getting broken easily.

Here is a good upgrade that won't break the bank. Have these and love them for cheapy in ears.

I struggled a lot with earbuds, like many have done. Using Amazon reviews is mostly pointless. They are all mostly a crap shoot. Cheap earbuds at Walmart are usually worse, I wouldn't earbuds there. While quality of sound is usually biggest determining factor for price (you get what you pay for regarding sound quality), durability is difficult to ascertain. Higher price doesn't necessarily mean increased durability.

Music is not high quality, bass is completely lacking and the clarity is just not there. But they work well for podcasts/audio books, and since that is all I listen to at work, I could care less about audio quality. I only listen to them using one ear, so the other hangs in my top shirt pocket.

They are the most durable earbuds I have ever purchased, and since they get a lot of abuse at work, I use the JVC's exclusively at work. I have owned 3 pairs of these JVC's, first one's died a while back, losing sound in both ear buds eventually, 2nd pair is running ok now, and the Third pair is sitting in a box, brand new, never used, waiting for my 2nd pair to break.

For talking on the cell phone, I use these - MEElectronics M31P-BK

The M31P's are very sensitive (volume wise), so I have to turn the volume way down on my cell phone, and even then, it can be too loud, especially if the caller raises their voice while speaking on the other end. Music sounds phenomenal on my Ipod, I almost want another pair just for my Ipod & working out. But phone conversations are the only thing I use these for, as as they are also the first time I have purchased them, I cannot comment on durability. Construction is good, better than the JVC's from what I can tell. But appearances may be deceiving.

For working out, I use these - MEElectronics Sport M6

The Sport M6 is not very sensitive and I find it necessary to raise the volume at near max in order to enjoy music. Podcasts are fine. Very high quality construction. 1st time owning these, so I can't comment on durability.

MEElectroncs get rave reviews by most users, general consensus is they are superior to most others in the bang for your buck category. They have a wide range of sound quality which means wide range of price as well. The M31P's seem to be discontinued but you can find something similar on their website/amazon.

I've been looking and looking to upgrade my EDC, but it's a lot. I really want a bag, pen, maybe new wallet (current one is filled TO THE MAX. Would like to downsize), knife/multitool, waterbottle, etc., etc.

Budget - $50-$100

Source - Android phone/Sansa Clip+ (also might be interested in a portable amp if necessary and that would be a separate budget)

Requirements for Isolation - The more the better. Used in public transportation, driving, gym, noisy work place when on lunch or break.

Preferred Type of Headphone - IEMs

Preferred tonal balance - I prefer overall balance with maybe a hint of focus on bass or highs depending on mood and what I am listening to.

Past headphones - Recently purchased the monoprice 8320 variant that came with extra tips. Over all I did enjoy the sound they produced, but the fit and isolation regardless of what tips I tried (even 3rd party) left a lot to be desired. The 8320's cord is also very terrible when it came to tangling, but I do feel like the cord itself is very durable because of the material. Before the 8320 I had some skull candy inked that fit into my ears really well and I liked the isolation, but they were very bass heavy. Headphones that I use now at home on my desktop are Sennheiser HD595. I love the sound I get from these overall, so if there was an IEM that had a similar sound I would not be opposed.

Preferred Music - I listen to a little bit of everything I suppose. In current order of frequency as of late (most listened to least listened): Rap, hip hop, rock, alt, pop, electronica, classical, country.

I was looking at the following as well, but decided to look into maybe spending a bit more money for better quality.

Over ear are way too clunky for me especially during cardio. I was using regular earbuds for a while but they never stayed in during sprints or kettlebell work...found these and they stay pretty tight. Might try to get a wireless version with the same memory wire when my pair eventually dies.

Cheap, good sound (much better than Skull Candies), the wire wraps behind the ear to hold it in place (get the M9s instead if you don't like that). For gym headphones that are going to be subjected to a lot of abuse, they sound great and I'm not worried about breaking them since a new pair is only $20.

I bought these to use while I ride my m/c. They stay in place under a full face helmet.

Up near the ear bud, the last two inches or so of the cord is a pliable material that you can shape around your ear for a nice secure fit. They come with 4 or 5 different tips that help give you more secure fit depending on the internal shape of your ear. Sound quality is decent but not on par with Etymotic or Shure.

If you are having issues with them staying in place, Comply Foam Tips would be another good option to try. I have replaced all my earbud tips with these.

You roll the foam tip like an earplug and it expands in your ear to seal out ambient noise and provide a snug fit.

MEE audio Sport-Fi M6 Noise Isolating In-Ear Headphones are cheap, never fall out and seriously do isolate noise. Because they go over and behind the ear you could yank on them and they wouldn't come out.

A bit awkward to put in, so if you take them out and putt them back in frequently it could get annoying, but I love them.

I have a pair of these. They were $20, sound great, have good noise isolation and stay in even while running.

I use ME Electronics M6 earbuds, they block outside sound very well and hook over my ears so my helmet doesn't dislodge them.

I have these. They are buds but they are a bit different bc they wrap around the back of the ear. They also come with several tips so you can get a comfortable fit. I think it makes them more practical. The sound quality is absolutely fantastic for the price. I highly recommend them for that. As far as fashion, they may not be what you are looking for but I thought I should still put them out there. Good luck.

I picked up a set of MEElec Sport M6's a couple years ago and they're still going strong despite daily workouts. Comes with lots of different tips and mine has a detachable cable extension so I can shorten it if I want to plug it into an upper arm case for running or something. The included tips are good and these have pretty decent sound. Best of all - haven't had any sound loss problems with them like skullcandies that lasted like a month normally. Only thing worth noting on these is that after 2 years or so of use it seems like the rubber sheath on the cable might be starting to get hard. I also recently upgraded the tips to Comply memory foam tips and it's just made them even better. HIGHLY recommend swapping out for Comply tips. $10 for tips sounds like a rip but I'm using them every day. They help isolate the outside noise better and keep bass from 'leaking' out around a bad ear seal since the memory foam comfortably fills in your ear hole.

Try ones in this style. The actual speaker part is very small, and the rubber bit holds them in place well without being stiff at all.

I use these with ME electronic headphones, I have the M2 and these.

Just attach them to the headphones, squish them until they are skinny, and put them in following the instructions. Good sound quality, good seal, just make sure when you're taking them out you don't pull them straight out but kind of turn them out (if that makes sense), if you pull straight out the foam might get caught.

Post this in the headphone suggestion thread. This will most likely get deleted but I think the MEElectronics M6 would be the best for you. It has an over the ear design which is great for the gym.

I too am skeptical about bluetooth headphones for running. I've been using these headphones for about a year. Sound quality is good and they stay in place. They do block out some noise so if you're running in a busy area don't turn up the volume too much.

I commute every day, just over an hour all up. All my riding is through the city. When I tried music through headphones a while ago, I only lasted a few weeks. I found it just too easy to lose concentration, and also didn't like that I couldn't hear everything around me. It might have been a different story if I was doing highway miles though.

These days I use the Sena 20s - for sat nav, intercom and calls rather than music - and it's absolutely brilliant. The speakers don't work massively well over loud pipes though, so I plug these in. They're just the right balance of hearing the calls etc, and letting in enough ambient noise so that I can hear what's happening around me. Have them in both ears, and they fit perfectly under a helmet.

I would recommend a good pair of in-ear headphones. The Etymotic MC5 and HF5 can be found for under $100. Both offer good isolation across most of the frequencies you'd run into, in-flight (engine noise, cabin conversations and acoustics, etc). Here is a comparison graph of the isolation offered by both. Both offer great sound, as well.

If you want cheaper (and slightly less noticeable by people around you), I'm going to recommend what I consider to be the best in-ear headphones, sub-$50: The MEElectronics M6. They're cheap, come with a range of silicone tips to ensure a good fit, comfortable, isolate well, and have wrap-around style memory-wire which not only keeps them securely in your ears, but prevents microphonics (noise caused by the cord moving or rubbing on things). Of all the in-ear headphones I have used, they're my favorite for everything from airline travel to jogging, to casual use. And they sound pretty damn good.

I've had trouble keeping most other ones in my ears but these fit like a glove once you figure them out. Sound good for the price, too, even next to the more expensive sets I use when I'm not working out.

They've worked well as in-ear monitors at church, in my "studio" at home, and also general ear protection with the jack just tucked into my pocket. I've just about worn out the rubber buds themselves, but for $14, I've gotten a ton of use out of them over the last year+.

I play to a click in several bands, and I have had tremendous luck with an app call Tempo, as mentioned above. It allows you to create playlists so you can quickly change to the next song. None of my band mates play to the click, but rehearsing with it has taught them to fall in with me. I also kind of tap along during any pauses in the songs and it works well. In between songs i take my phone out of my pocket and change to the next track and put it back quickly.

They have just enough of a noise cancelling quality that I can still hear whats going on but I get plenty of click. The ones I linked to are a cheaper knockoff of shure in-ear headphones, but I find that they work just as well. I'm not playing giant gigs at madison square garden or anything, but for now it can make your band seem tight and professional at minimal cost.

I would highly recommend these. For the money, the sound is fantastic, and they come with a variety of tips to fit your ear - some more isolating than others. You mold the wire to fit around the back of your ear and it works really well.

They also make them without the molded wire. Those are the ones I have now. I clip it to my shirt so they don't tug on my ears every time I take a step. Either way they are fantastic (I have had both). Incidentally, when my first pair broke, amazon replaced them for free, so don't be intimidated if you haven't heard of meelectronics before. Their products are fantastic.

Just remember, if you miss a note or don't do it perfectly, nobody will boo you off stage like in RB!

One thing that might help, if you can at least get guitar and hopefully vocals through in-ear monitors/headphones (I've used these), that would be an immense help when playing live... it really helps you keep tempo and it feels more like you're playing to a real song.

  I used these walking, on the train, commuting and sometimes at work.. These things pack a heavy punch for how much they cost now. I WOULD NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE A BIG HEAD. Earpads can be a bit uncomfy but you can replace them with other ones they sell.

Budget - $100-$150 MAX

Source - Retina Macbook Pro, Iphone 4s. No amps here.

Requirements for Isolation - Moderate to High Isolation. I'll use these at work with one headphone in.

Preferred Type of Headphone - IEMs,

Preferred tonal balance - Balanced with a lot of bass/sub bass. (not really balanced I know, but the rest of the tonal range is important to me)

Past headphones - Meelectronics M6P's these have nice bass, but not the best over-all sound quality. Astrotec AX-35. Picked these guys up on a recent Massdrop.The bass is a little flat on these guys, but everything sounds really nice, IMO.

Preferred Music - EDM, Rap, Alternative, Rock, etc. A lot of bass-heavy stuff.


I'm leaning toward the Shure SE215's and the RHA MA750i's. I know I'm looking for clear bass and sub-bass. But mids and highs are important to me too. Some of the pairs I've had in the past will either put bass center stage leaving the mids/highs muddy or distant, or visa versa. I like everything sounding clear with a lot of bass presence.
RHA's warranty is a big plus to me. And I know that the SE215's have been known to fail.

Any thoughts?

I have 3 pairs, one for playing onstage, one for studying at school, & one for work/working out/ any physical activities. Best headphones I've ever had. I prefer them over my the $100 sure stage monitor headphones I used to use.

These are really good sounding especially for their price and they've lasted me well over a year. Cheap buds like skull candy tend to last me a few weeks at most.

I know you said you want bluetooth, but these meet every other need you listed. And I actually have used these while playing and absolutely no dislodging or anything. Comfort is a matter of personal taste though, it does take a while to get used to how deep these are.
