I have one of these 8bitdo SFC30 controllers and I absolutely love it. I've used it so much over the last year and a half that I'm very likely going to buy one of their NES30 Pro controllers. I think the NES30 Pro is better suited for PSP emulation and for use with a lot of indie games I have on steam (e.g. Rogue Legacy, Binding of Isaac, Risk of Rain).

I have the 8bitdo SNES 30 Bluetooth (actually SFC 30 b/c Amazon was out of US version controllers, set them up the day I got them and haven't had an issue since.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00Y0LUQFE/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1491791056&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=8bitdo+snes&dpPl=1&dpID=41wQuB79i1L&ref=plSrch

Well... one issue. When they first connect whatever menu I'm on goes hard scrolling (left on the main emulator menus, down on the rom selection screens). As soon as I touch a button it stops it and all is good.

I assume there is something small and trivial to fix but it really doesn't bother me much at all. Just need to google it. But if anyone knows what the fix is let me know!

You can buy controllers that are almost identical in feel to the original SNES & NES controllers fairly cheaply off of Amazon.

I have this SNES USB wired controller, and there are wireless versions of the SNES, NES, and N64 controllers.

Here's my setup:

  • Raspberry Pi 3
  • LibreELEC
  • Kodi Gamestarter addon
  • 8bitdo SFC30 SNES controller(s)

This allows you to use your Pi not only as a RetroArch machine, but also a general-purpose media center machine running Kodi. Seeing as I have multiple machines like this around the house, I serve up my ROMs and Save Game data off a server via NFS, so that I can play a game on one box, then move to another one and pick up my saved game from there. This is a far better setup than the shit Nintendo is releasing.

You should look into the 8bitdo snes controller. It's legit amazing. Feels like a real snes controller + it's both wired and wireless. A bit more expensive than the ibuffalo, but the quality is waaaaay better.

8bitdo SF30 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y0LUQFE?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

I love it, it's basically just an SNES controller for my computer, works for Android phones too apparently

u/GamingJay · 2 pointsr/nes

More of a SNES controller but can be used for NES games easily: iBuffalo controller

You can also go for a Bluetooth variant: [8bitdo controller] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00Y0LUQFE/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1509975030&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=8bitdo+sf30&dpPl=1&dpID=41wQuB79i1L&ref=plSrch)

I have both and both work great. You can find cheaper versions of these but in my experience you always notice the cheapness when you get those controllers. But, they might be usable if you don't mind that

If you are wanting to get a controller you can use for years to come though I'd pick either the iBuffalo or the 8bitdo. You can also get the 8bitdo controllers in the style of old NES controllers if you really are set on it being NES specifically

u/granddaddyfunk · 1 pointr/SteamController

Might there be some kind of software that would trick it into treating the Steam Controller like a traditional gamepad? I'd like to get a couple of these at some point: https://amzn.com/B00Y0LUQFE

I feel like it would be easier than having a bulkier controller that's made for more inputs, at least for NES and SNES games. Till then I want to try and get this working.

u/AnEmbarrassedGiraffe · 1 pointr/8bitdo

Thanks for your response. That sounds like it may be a good workaround, though I don't have access to a Wiimote at the moment, so that's an additional expense... But it's a good idea.

I'm thinking it actually looks like this version of the controller is the one I'm looking for?

Seems to be a slightly older model that isn't on their website, but is marketed as being PC bluetooth compatible, so maybe I'll give it a try. Hopefully it will work with a superNT in the future, I'm considering getting one.

Edit: I'm going to give this method a go with the newer 2.4G model and see if I can fool Windows into thinking it is a WiiController... I'll report back my findings for science.

u/k-shaps · 1 pointr/snes

Awesome thanks for the help! The 8bitdo controllers I have are these ones
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y0LUQFE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Will these natively connect to the SNES classic? or is there some sort of adapter I need. The only games I really want to play that I haven't already are: the pocky and rocky games, gundam wing endless waltz, Final Fantasy III, The Donkey Kong Country Trilogy, Chrono Trigger, and Mega Man X2. If the SNES classic plays these back with minimal audio and video differences I'll be set! I know Earthworm Jim 2 suffers from poor audio but I'l prob never play that.

u/Scrainator · 1 pointr/AndroidQuestions

I suggest taking a look at this controller from 8bitdo. I use a variant of it for emulation and I absolutely love it. Only thing though is if you want to clip it to your phone you have to buy the mount separately and it doesn’t seem the mount officially supports the Core either so you might run the risk of incompatibility.

u/ZeroHex · 1 pointr/gadgets

Get a cheap tablet for about $60 and treat yourself to a nice controller for another $25 and you basically have a portable NES/SNES/Sega Genesis/Dreamcast machine that you can use instead?

u/dagit · 1 pointr/wiiu

The 8bitdo snes controller says it can act as a wiimote. I have one and they are great, but I use it with my PC so I can't speak to the WiiU support. Just make sure to get the wireless version as the cheaper model doesn't do bluetooth.

Oh, to your accidentally drop issue:
I've owned this game before on PS3 and PS4 and had this issue even on those gamepads with proper dpad. The problem is in a heated battle you press the dpad a bit harder than usual and if you do you accidentally make an "up" command even though you press left or right (because you press really hard on left or right with a little bit of "up" pressure which triggers the up command internally in the gamepad).

Just saying the lack of true dpad actually solved this issue with the joycons because all 3 directions are separated. I've been playing this game on PS3 and PS4 for about a year with 2 friends and we all 3 occasssionally had this issue on other platforms. The JoyCons fixed that!

If you really want to play with a true dpad though I can recommend the SNES controller by 8bitdo which supports the Switch: https://www.amazon.com/8bitdo-SFC30-Wireless-Bluetooth-Controller/dp/B00Y0LUQFE/
While having a true dpad, it also doesn't have this occassionally up press by accident. We tried it!

I have this controller because Eric got the SNES preorder but didn't think to get a controller so I could play with him haha

Gimme some Tech Daddi! Thanks for the contest :)

I picked up this 3.5"
LCD
from Amazon. Unfortunately, I clicked buy before I measured. I think the biggest that will fit is 2.8". I'm currently looking for another option without having to spend double for the 2.8" touch screen Adafruit has to offer (since I don't care if it's touch screen).

I have not yet figured out how I'll do controls. I was going to wait until the blog author posts an official parts list. In the mean time I was going to pair it with my 8bitdo SFC30 controller.

u/BigMommaDrama · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

I have two of the snes30 pads and they came with usb cables. I never tried using them wired but I would assume that they do work. Great controllers though. I got one that is snes style and the other is pal snes style so I could distinguish between player 1 and 2.

u/VolskayaIndustries · 1 pointr/gadgets

I just use one of these with the SNES emulators on my phone and PC. It works extremely well, even with PC games that support controllers.

u/MaverickLunarX · 1 pointr/miniSNESmods

I just saw the product link you posted, I have the Bluetooth model with the retro receiver.

SFC30 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00Y0LUQFE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_YvqFAbVVYPHTN

Retro Receiver https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076B995TL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_axqFAbD0MBFJC

Of note I got the SFC30 for easier use for my kids (push the Green button) but again the parts are swappable with official controllers if you want to keep the purple scheme, or just buy the Bluetooth SN30.

u/sdwashu · 1 pointr/chromeos

I've been using SuperRetro16 with the 8BITDO SFC30 bluetooth controller. Works really well.

Looks like your intuition about astroturfing is valid, although the adjusted rating isn't much lower.
