Relavent -> Men Are Like Waffles - Women Are Like Spaghetti

Men compartmentalize their thoughts like waffles compartmentalize syrup, while women string together related things to form a continuous, spaghetti-thought... generally speaking.

I've seen it a million times when dad is focused on a job he's doing around the house and mom comes to talk about the next job or whats happening on the weekend or whats for supper. To her, the next thing is related because its happening next. But to him, the next thing is not what he is currently doing and the conversations is seen as a hindrance, preventing him from finishing the job at hand.

I was listening to a radio show and there was a couple counselor on talking about the way men and women think. The way she said it made a lot of sense to me so maybe it will make sense to you too.

She said men think like waffles, women think like spaghetti.

To expand on that, men typically think in more compartmentalized way. They get into a thought and they are there, they don't usually think outside what they are focusing on so it can lead to issues in relationships when a man is trying to focus on something and a woman will ask about something out side that pocket. The man has to take some time to 'move' to another part of the waffle.

She explained that women typically think in a more entangled way. When you hear a story from a women, many times it may feel like the beginning of the story isn't going to lead to a conclusion because woman's thoughts are more 'knotted' and intertwined with each other. She stated an example where in dating, odd ball things will remind them of their partner because of some long thought process that is intertwined with thoughts about her relationship.

I think I got that right, it's been a few years since I've heard it but it made sense. If you are curious to hear it better explained, there was a website that explains it better: https://rockyourmarriage.org/men-like-waffles-women-like-spaghetti/

and a book by the couple I heard on the radio: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0736919619/ref=as_li_qf_sp_asin_il_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=andreaforten-20&camp=1789&creative=9325&linkCode=as2&creativeASIN=0736919619&linkId=abacf79d5f0e8afb535541bfa4ca0be3

"Men Are Like Waffles, Women Are Like Spaghetti" by Bill & Pam Farrel. Another Christian book, but uses an easy-to-understand metaphor for understanding how your spouse may think differently than you do.
