In the book Merle's Door, the author actually talks about the eyebrows of labradors. If I remember correctly, it's believed it helped the labrador become so popular because the eyebrows allow facial expressions and a better connection with humans when we perceive to "understand" them. I could be wrong since it's been a number of years since reading the book.

This reminds me of the book I just finished reading: Merle's Door. Merle and Ted lived up in Wyoming and went on hiking, skiing, and hunting adventures until the end of Merle's nearly 14 year life.

In the book he wrote a lot about the relationship between humans and dogs, gave a bit of history, and reflected on society's view of dogs as pets vs. dogs as family members. These guys treated their dog as family and with respect, and it is refreshing to see.

Merle's Door - Book that mixes a fun and engaging story about a man and his dog with some beliefs/ideas/"science" on how to raise a dog.

Pukka's Promise - Somewhat of a sequel. Same deal here. A nice story about the same man and his search and adventure with his new second dog mixed with beliefs/ideas/"science" on health and nutrition of dogs.
