They suck fat dick. Do yourself a favor and get metallic latches and replace those ASAP. I also had two break on me after normal use. Worst plastic pieces of shit I've ever dealt with.

You can buy a replacement latch for the broken joycon on Amazon. $9.99 for 2 latches and every tool you need to do it. It OEM latch is a cheap small piece of plastic that is very easily chipped. Once chipped the joycon won't sit snug on the switch itself. The amazon replacement latches are metal and work fantastic in the two joycons I've swapped them out in. Link to latches

Is the clip that retains the controller in place damaged? If that is the cause, you can replace that.

Thanks, I was worried about this process. I ordered this since my left joycon came detective and can't lock properly. Should go much smoother now!

You can call Nintendo and see if they will fix it.

If it's within warranty they should, otherwise you may have to pay.

You could also try to replace it yourself with these

If you choose to replace it yourself I would recommend to get better screwdrivers or one of these

The JoyCon's ( And I believe the rest of the external screws on the Switch ) use a Y00 screw, not a Tri-Wing like Nintendo used to use.

Keep in mind that the plastic locks are possibly designed as an intentional weak point. In the event that the system is dropped on the Joycon, having that latch break prevents the energy from being transferred into the system.

I had the same problem after dropping my backpack with the switch in it. There's metal replacement parts for that buckle

Just be aware that the installation is quite fiddly, you can potentially break stuff and will lose the warranty for the joycon

Out of 3 sets of joycons, 2 sets have your same issue. If you regularly take them on and off, I think this is inevitable.

I used this kit to fix mine: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B078X4YWCG

It works well. I also dropped a switch on the left joycon after this was installed, from a few feet. No damage to anything like a lot of people are claiming. Anecdotal I know, but take from it what you will.

I'll post a link to what I've bought, but have not yet installed...

I'd buy the metal joy con replacement latches. You can find them on amazon for very cheap. replaces the malleable plastic causing your issue with a solid metal latch. You can order them on ali-express for super cheap or snag a kit off amazon for a few bucks. https://www.amazon.com/Buckles-Repair-Nintendo-Switch-Screwdrivers/dp/B078X4YWCG/

The problem is the latching mechanism. It's made of plastic and easily damaged.

There are aftermarket replacements on eBay or Amazon you can buy that replace the pieces with metal. I've been running with them for awhile and they work great.

(You'll likely see this message down voted by naysayers, though. Some people think these parts could lead to switch damage. It hasn't happened for those of us who installed them, though.)
