The best book for fans of thrash/death/black metal is undoubtably Metalion: The Slayer Mag Diaries. It is a compilation of the greatest reviews, articles, and interviews from Slayer Mag, which has been around since the 80's. The first few issues are in Norwegian, but are still interesting to look at. After that, it switches over to English and is unbelievably informative. In addition, the author talks about what was going on in his life before each issue of Slayer Mag, which is an interesting insight as well. I would recommend this book over anything else metal-related that I've read.

Yeah! So, Deathlike Silence (Euronymous's label) actually had signed/planned to release albums from S.A. bands. He was close with the bands Hadez and Masacre, and Hadez considered releasing their 1993 debut Aquelarre on DS. A lot of the Norwegians were big fans of Sarcofago, and some of the old Slayer zines specifically had mentions by Fenriz and Varg about how they respected what the S.A. artists were doing. It's something that's been sadly lost to a lot of metal history, even within extreme metal circles. A ton of "sources" (like Sam Dunn) treat the Norwegian scene as if they were a vacuum and solely the product of a unique Scandinavian climate, which could not be further from the truth. It'd be like talking about British post-punk without mentioning Jamaica (re: The Clash, The Pop Group, The Slits).
