MetEd is an excellent site. If you are completely new to the site, I highly recommend sticking to courses at the level 1 category. If you are planning a future in the field, completing these classes will go along way in your training. I'm actually a Meteorologist with the National Weather Service (NWS) and I just graduated from FSU. I completed many of the MetEd classes before I even got my position with the NWS and these classes credited toward my new employee training.

Many universities that have Meteorology programs also have their course work and lecture slides online. You sometimes just have to hunt a little.

Another good source to check out online is The Weather Prediction.

There are also magazines like Weatherwise which is perfect for a beginner.

And for those pursuing academia there are the BAMS journals. If you become a national member of the American Meteorological Society, you receive these journals every month.

You could also join the National Weather Association.

Finally, find out where your local WFO (Weather Forecasting Office) is within the NWS and go schedule a tour. We even offer free classes to train you as a storm spotter. You can start here, enter your zip code, and from there find your local WFO.

If your interested in TV contact your local news station for a tour.

As for good books. The majority of our textbooks are generally full of high-level applied mathematics. I recommend this book. I worked as a teaching assistant for 3 semesters of Introduction to Meteorology at FSU and got nothing but positive feedback from students with this textbook. It's a great beginners textbook that is not bogged down by complicated mathematical equations. It is an expensive book, but I'm sure you could find older editions for much cheaper.

I hope all of this helps.
