Looks like the price has gone up on the xbox 360 adapter. Also if you have a wii guitar I would recommend getting a longer mini usb cable than the one that comes with the adapter and watching this video https://youtu.be/JTIeandEaYQ. Acai's channel also has some other good info about clone hero.
You can already use the wireless Xbox 360 controllers with a PC, you just need the USB wireless receiver
Yeah but you need a wireless receiver/dongle.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows-x/dp/B000HZFCT2
i'm not sure if using a play and charge kit/cable connected to the PC would work.
Xbox 360:
The charging cable only charges the controller. There is no data transfer. No matter what a stripper tells you. You need one of these bad boys. (also available in black.)
PS3:
I believe you need to download some custom drivers as Sony does not support PC functionality out of the box.
There is actually an adapter to use wireless controllers on the PC, I only know this because I have a friend that has like 30 of them and he uses them to use his xbox headset and xbox controllers for his pc.
Edit: And here they are

if anyone was curious.

The wireless 360 controller doesn't use bluetooth, it uses a proprietary wireless protocol, so you need to buy the adapter MS sells.
Unfortunately that will not work. You would need a Wireless Gaming Receiver. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
The USB on the wireless controllers ONLY provides power for charging.
Alternatively, a wireless 360 controller with wireless adaptor for PC.
Oh, right. Sorry.
You'll need a wireless gaming receiver.
Drivers can be downloaded from here.
And yes, it's a snug fit in the case. :) Not too tight!
The trick to the case was to find a power supply that was small, yet powerful, enough to fit in the case w/o blocking the video card.
EDIT: I didn't want to wait for Valve's Steam Box, plus I figure I could make something better for a slightly higher price. What do you think?
EDIT: It's an Xbox wireless receiver right on top of it.
I am using a DS4 controller with a Bluetooth adapter. Works really well and I don't need to worry about a wire while gaming in bed! You can also get a wireless 360 controller and the dongle so you're able to use it.
Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows
PC has wireless controllers. ಠ_ಠ
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
If you've ever owned an Xbox 360 (or have a wireless 360 controller), you can pick up this wireless receiver for only $16.72. Plug it into your computer's USB port and you can use your 360 controller on normal computer games. I use mine to play Nintendo 64, Playstation, and Gamecube emulators I've downloaded. So if I want to play Super Smash Bros or Animal Crossing or whatever, I can just use my xbox controller and download the game free online off of a site like coolrom.com. It's one of my favorite purchases. I've gone back and beaten so many games for purely nostalgic reasons and have tons of hours on it. Loads of fun.
Even if you don't have a controller, you could pick one up at GameStop for like $15.
No, these wireless controllers require an adapter
Xbox 360 wired controllers are very plug-and-play. Up to 4 Wireless controllers are also plug and play as long as you get one of these:
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You are likely to find 360 controllers far cheaper than current gen controllers.
Yes you can, If they are wired controllers you can just plug them into a USB slot. If they're wireless ones you need to get a wireless adapter

I totally get that, which is why I bought one of these and hooked my gaming machine up to my tv. Problem solved.

A wired xbox 360 controller works simply by plugging it in on windows 7. On a fresh win7 install windows recognized it right away as an xbox controller. Windows update does have a small driver update for it if you have any issues. Wireless controllers will also work but requires an adapter such as this.
I use it for platformers mainly such as super meatboy as well as snes/nes/ps1/ps2 emulators.
*****
I also prefer the razer version of the controller. It has mechanical switches for the buttons so they feel a bit more crisp and tactile. Imagine a left or right mouse click feel but requiring slightly more pressure.
Depends on what you want to use it for.
Your app selection becomes considerably more convenient if you load the google play store:
http://www.s-config.com/root-the-ouya-google-play/
If you want to rock some multiplayer gaming and you have an XBox 360, one of these will be super handy (adapter to use your wifi controllers through Ouya USB):
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_4/187-6579901-8733413?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1408936752&sr=1-4&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+adapter
Also, you'll want a nice spacious USB stick if you plan on storing lots of games:
http://www.amazon.com/PNY-Turbo-64GB-drive-P-FD64GTBOP-GE/dp/B00FDUHDAC/ref=sr_1_6?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1408936816&sr=1-6&keywords=64+gb+usb+flash+drive
If you're low on funds maybe just opt for 32 GB:
http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-Digital-32GB-DataTraveler-Drive/dp/B004TS1J1S/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1408936816&sr=1-9&keywords=64+gb+usb+flash+drive
If you plan on using several USB peripherals, I really recommend a powered USB hub:
http://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Port-12-5W-Power-Adapter/dp/B00483WRZ6/ref=sr_1_9?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1408936981&sr=1-9&keywords=powered+usb+hub
These are all suggestions and you likely have a bunch of this stuff already. Just know that most games work great with an xbox or PS3 controller. If you want just some cheap USB controllers for friends to play with, Gamestop is currently selling the Gamestick controller for $10. It's not wonderful, but that's why you make your friends use it :) YOUR MILEAGE MAY VARY WITH GAME COMPATIBILITY. These worked for me with Towerfall and NES.EMU but not for some other games.
http://www.gamestop.com/android/accessories/gamestick-controller/109153
Must have apps:
Plex
FilePwn
NES.EMU
SNES9X
FPSe
Towerfall
Toto Temple Delux
Clarc
Meltdown
As for hiccups, when pairing controllers, you need to be very careful. Whenever I am pairing controllers I need to do things in this order for best results.
1.) Power on Ouya with nothing paired
2.) Pair all OUYA brand controllers
3.) Pair all PS3 Controllers
4.) Pair all USB (Xbox 360 Controllers)
If you try to do things out of order, things get screwy.
Other than that, just know that a lot of us have screwed with the thing quite a bit and if you have any questions we can likely help you out.
Welcome to the club!
Uhhh...
Alright, here's my take:
FPS, Third-Person Shooters, Racing, Action-Adventure -> Xbox 360 Controller. [For wireless controllers you use this.]
Fighting, Platforming, Beat-em-ups, RPGs -> Playstation 3 controller with motioninjoy drivers. If you want wireless you can grab a Bluetooth Dongle That's the one I use.
I have both controllers, and change them out depending on what game I'm playing. For example, I prefer the 360 controller when I'm playing Darksiders but use the PS3 controller for Devil May Cry.
You mean wireless controller? of course you can!
You just need the wireless receiver for windows.
link to amazon
1 long hidden HDMI from my computer to the TV solves the "moving hardware around" problem, and I already own a couple 360 controllers which connect without issue to my PC wirelessly using a $15 dollar adapter
hello there friend
graphics wont look bad if your tv is good happy adventuring
Fuck it. Buying both as we speak. It's time I give myself an excuse to invest in one of these anyways.
Since I'm sick and fucking tired of hearing how "overpriced" this thing is.
The cheapest version is $550:
Core i3 4130t - $130
500GB HDD - $50
GTX 860M - Comparable Card (GTX 750) - $120
4GB DDR3 1600 - $50
Wifi Adapter - $40
Motherboard (ASRock H97M) - $80
Xbox 360 Adapter - $15
Xbox 360 Controller - $45
MicroATX HTPC Case (Still HUGE compared to the AW case) - $60
Windows 8.1 OEM - $80
Total : $670
Now please. Tell me again how you can build a computer this small, with similar or better specs, for half the cost.
You can always Get something like this and it should run with your wireless controller without much fuss at all.
You need a dongle like this one
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481798049&sr=8-1&pi=SX200_QL40&keywords=xbox+360+controller+dongle&dpPl=1&dpID=41plpDkTneL&ref=plSrch
I absolutely cannot drive in JC2 using a keyboard. I play the game with my 360 controllers. If you own a controller already you can pick up the receiver for $16ish dollars on Amazon. I'd highly recommend it.
If it's a wireless controller you need one of these. This isn't the original one, those are about $50.
Well the first two in that link are the WiFi adapters. Specifically you'll want [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_3?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1369193648&sr=1-3&keywords=xbox+wireless+adapter) for a wireless 360 controller to work with a PC (those adapters come in white as well).
If you have a wired controller you can just plug it in and be done.
If you have a wireless controller, you HAVE to get a receiver like this for your PC. A plug-n-play kit will NOT work, but you can get a cheap off brand one from China for around $10.
MS wireless receiver and a 360 controller works well, I have a long HDMI and optical audio to receiver and use my HDTV as a secondary monitor to play all the games on.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342035712&sr=8-1&keywords=Microsoft+wireless+receiver
You can't. Wireless controllers don't send any info over the play and charge wires, they only draw power. You'll either need to use an actual wired controller, or you'll need to buy this.

Xbox 360 Controller.
If you already have a controller and it’s a bit worn out, rebuild kits can be purchased online or you can buy another 360 controller.
It’s overall same price as a Pro Controller for this setup but I prefer the bigger thumb sticks and more fluid buttons of the Xbox controller. Vibration features also work so it’s incredible imo.
I might suggest 2 things:

That way, you can use your PC (Steam's Big Picture mode is fully controller supported) while sitting on your couch playing games. You can get the whole setup for under $50 either way you choose to do it. You get all the power of a PC with all the convenience of a console. Not sure why more people don't do this, but I HIGHLY recommend it.
To use a Wireless 360 controller on the PC, you need a Wireless Gaming Receiver.
Even if you used an USB cable on your wireless controller, it wouldn't work. The USB cable only serves for charging the battery. The input signals are wireless only no matter what, and that's why you need the receiver.
I personally use a Wired Controller as player 1, and my roommates use 3 wireless controllers with the receptor. Takes up 2 USB ports.
I can't speak for the XB1 controllers, but the 360 controllers are not bluetooth. However, you can still use them if you have one of the USB dongle things.
No the charge kit does not work he is talking about the actual wired controller.
This is the adapter http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
It will charge the controller, but that's it. You still need a wireless adaptor.
I used it at a small nvidia event thing before it was released, but using the final retail model. I didn't really like it too much, I found the screen was a bit too small for some decent gaming, it was heavier than I expected it to be, the controller doesn't feel like it'd be comfortable for long term use and I overall didn't really get the point of it, as without the use of a VPN and always having a strong 4G LTE connection, you can only use it in your house, you know, the place where your PC is, and it's not like you can stream it from your PC, play on shield, do other stuff on pc (such as another user), overall, there's much cheaper solutions to this, if you have a gameklip and a wireless xbox controller with the dongle and some software called splashtop.
Also, shield requires a minimum of a GTX 660, the DIY version works with anything, except it does only stream at 800x600 (stable) and it only works on games that have borderless windowed (or just windowed, if you can deal with start menus etc), but it's a solution if you only play a few games and have a smartphone.
TL;DR: Screen too small, bit too heavy, uncomfortable to use for long periods of time, cheaper alternative if you don't mind some setbacks
EDIT: Word fail
You can still get the 360 dongle https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491828206&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+360+controller+dongle
One of these is your best bet
It is purely for charging. The official reciever doesn't appear to be all too expensive, about $10 cheaper than a new wired controller.
All you need is that device and then this Wireless Receiver and it will work just fine. It's what I used on my PS3.
No, those cables only charge the controller, they don't have any data transfer capabilities. You can use this if you want to use your current Xbox controller for pc.
Can you get it to work on your PC? I suspect not since that looks like a charge cable.
You need one of these to make it work on a PC or a Steam Link: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-other-devices/connections/xbox-360-wireless-gaming-receiver-windows
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2

You do realize they make wireless controller adapters for PC right?
Side note for those saying buy a wired 360 controller: If you already have 360 controllers laying around (or can borrow from friends etc..) Save some cash and get one of these bad boys: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2?pc_redir=1412145840&robot_redir=1
Supports up to 4 controllers at once.
Just throwing it out there, but there is an existing Microsoft wireless RF receiver for 360 controllers to connect to pc anyone who does not have a broken Xbox/no soldering exp.

It's $16.50 on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You can probably find it cheaper if you buy it on eBay.\
Edit: Watch out for knock-offs. It should say "Microsoft" on the front of it.
I have something ridiculous like 500+ hours across all the Souls games and I cannot for the life of me understand how people play them without a controller. If you can borrow your brother's controller, all you need is one of these to play on your PC. If you're really used to keyboard and mouse you might be fine, but it seems crazy to me...have you ever played The Witcher? The gameplay is really similar to that. Aim isn't that important as /u/Zoraji said, and it's more about being able to button mash quickly and intuitively. I find it a lot harder to do that on a keyboard.
Graphics on PC aren't a lot better, although there are some ways you can fuck around with the settings to improve them. I would Google around. I actually just reinstalled DS1 after years of not playing it, so I'm not sure what has changed since it switched to Steamworks. The original dscfix and dsfix are no longer compatible, for one thing, but I think there was a dsfix update.
They could sell something like this
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Online multiplayer in a fighting game is really hard to get right. Probably at least +3 months extra development for a game like this.
> You expect me to buy 2-4 controllers to play with friends on a PC monitor?
I have regular game nights with friends where I hook my laptop up to my TV and we play on Xbox controllers using this adapter. Works just fine for me.
If your 360 controller is wired, just plug in and go. They're excellent PC gamepads. If it's wireless, you'll need something like this.
That's not what I was talking about.
Dude, just hop on that Steam. It's easy. I use my Steam account for Civ V and various indie games. It's good stuff. Plus, if you really just use Xbox because you like the controller, you could pick one of these up.
xbox 360 controllers are NOT bluetooth. you will need this adapter to use xbox 360 controllers on your PC: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
If you're really judging your gaming experience by something as trivial as how it sounds to tell someone to pass your peripheral, then you could just get one of these.
Just grab this:
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
And the guitar should connect to it no issues. After that you're good to go.
Yep. Just need one of these bad boys:

I’ve had 4 hooked up wirelessly playing ultimate chicken horse
One of these would be good too.
It looks like you're using a Play and Charge cable on a wireless controller. So this controller would normally be wireless and this cable is used on the xbox to charge it.
This cable does not allow you to connect your controller to your PC to use as a game controller. It only transfers power to charge the battery, not data. As far as I know, third party or not, these cables cannot be used to use this controller on a pc.
http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1677965/xbox-360-play-charge-kit.html
The only option is to get an official USB wired Xbox 360 controller or get a Wireless Adapter for PC: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You're looking for a Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. I got mine from eBay, I'm 99% sure it's not a legit one but it works just fine. Be careful though, I know some people have had issues in the past and if you get a dud one you're shit out of luck. Official ones will be manufactured by Microsoft.
Here's a link to an official one on Amazon
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Yes, you just need one of these, then you sync a controller to it instead of the 360: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
OH. HEY. I CAN HELP YOU! :D
There's a number of ways you can use a controller on a PC, depending on the controller.
EDIT: Forgot about wireless ones. There's a receiver here. You can probably find it cheaper not on Amazon, but there's definitely options.
Yup. As long as you're using Xbox controllers. This was a great investment
This can connect 4 360 controllers to 1 USB port. I've used it for local 2v2 matches of Rocket League.
360 Wireless Receiver which I've had for years.
EDIT: Changed link to 1st party receiver.
I think you need a receiver for that. The wired controllers work fine too.
no, you have to buy a Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=pd_sim_e_5
You have to buy a reciever.
http://www.amazon.ca/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver/dp/B000HZFCT2
360 controllers are not compatible with the Xbox One, nor are they compatible with the Xbox One dongle. You need the Xbox 360 wireless adapter for your PC. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I found that this thing works pretty well for that.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
4 players on PC. You can hook a PC up to any HDTV.
Likely will work with this
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
No. You'd need one of these.
It does work with wireless but you have to get an adapter for it.
I use one of these with my Xbox 360 controller.
Most games (pretty much any game you could get for a 360, and more) support the 360 controller, they change the onscreen buttons and everything, so it's like paying $20 to play Xbox 360 games on your computer. Pretty good deal imo.

This awesome dude Plumato made a video guide on how to install Guitar Hero 3 PC, 3D Analyze (important, for framerate optimization) and Guitar Hero 3 PC Control Pannel (which allows you to add custom songs)
He has a Google Drive that has all the files you will need. Search "Plumatos drive" on this subreddit or I think there are links to his drive in the discription of the vid I linked
The process is a little complicated but not too bad if you follow the video closely.
Yes you can use your Xbox guitar
A wired xbox 360 Xplorer controler is the best guitar to use and will work with a connected usb break away cable. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0046RMJRU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_6ErMzbVY8FHR8
These guitars arent super easy to find anymore though.
To use wireless a wireless xbox 360 guitar (like the GH3 les paul, world tour guitar, warriors of rock guitar, etc) you will have to buy a xbox to windows wireless reciever https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wHrMzbE03S49X
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_YM9PzbQS64K0F
i believe this would work
Okay yeah, you need one of these or more likely a third party knockoff since the first party ones aren't made anymore and are ridiculously overpriced. The Xbox 360 wireless controller has no native PC compatibility.
You use something like this.
Wireless controller won't work on pc without it, because the cable works as a power source
You need a wireless adapter, preferably this one
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows-x/dp/B000HZFCT2

this is what you need. Unless you can find a wired controller for the 360.
it works flawlessly, all you need is one of these dongles for your pc https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1536574229&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+360+dongle

The charging cables do not work. Source:my experience
Never used the Razer gamepad but I can vouch for the xbox 360 controller. The build quality is time tested and Windows has excellent support for it... most games have all the controls mapped correctly by default.
I already had wireless xbox controllers so I just picked up one of these and it has performed perfectly
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I actually sit on my couch and hook up the PC to the TV in the living room. Works wonders, and you don't need a wired controller so long as you have an adapter.
It works really well, but if you go back and forth from PC to xbox then you'll have to reset the controller. Or just have two separate ones like I do.
You have to use the wireless adapter.
Nope.
There may be a receiver on the way but at this moment you can't.

If you already have some wireless controllers, the official Microsoft wireless receiver works perfectly.
Setup is super easy and the computer recognizes them the same way it does wired. Meaning if you're into emulator games like Mario Kart 64, adding a controller is not hard at all. I read all the reviews and the generic one is like $5 cheaper but way less reliable. Plus the official one is on Prime so pretty much a wash.
I'm pretty sure you can just buy an adapter online.
Edit: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2
with the controller receiver do-jiggy, this puts Arkham City up to like $26! If you look at it that way, at least... Sounds awesome, but not sure...
BTW: to use wireless 360 controller with windows, this is the gidget needed:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2
To connect the controller either plug a wired Xbox 360 controller in or use http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2 to connect wireless controllers.
You can also use your existing wireless 360 controllers with this.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
Works flawlessly for me.
For the record, never use PlayStation guitars. Way too much lag.
I'd actually recommend a Wii guitar. Acai recently found an adapter that makes any Wii guitar just as good as a wired 360 guitar, and you don't even need a Wii remote. See it in action here. Skip to 4:25 in the video to see how it works.
As for where to find them: Check Craigslist, LetGo, and Facebook Marketplace. Also check Goodwills and other thrift stores in your area. Wii guitars are dirt cheap if you want to spend $30 on that adapter. Xplorer guitars are just as good but will probably be a bit more expensive depending on where you buy them. Wireless Xbox 360 guitars are the next best thing but they require a wireless adapter and two AA batteries.
You might. In my situation, I use this bad boy to wirelessly use my 360 controller. It works pretty well. I believe you have to install some drivers, but it's not that difficult.
You can probably buy one of these from eBay, shipping from China for like $7 bucks which should work but you might have some driver issues every once in a while.
Personally I spent like a few dollars more and bought a Microsoft branded one through Amazon for like $10, and I haven't had any issues, but it seems as though they have gone up in price since I bought one last
Definitely go with a wired xbox 360 controller. If you already own a wireless one you can get a dongle for your PC that will connect any xbox 360 wireless device.
Here is the adapter
I prefer wireless myself. Wired controller can be had for around $30.
Cheers!
not without the wireless usb receiver

WiFi Adapter must be on this page : http://elinux.org/RPi_VerifiedPeripherals#Working_USB_Wifi_Adapters
There should be 5 wires coming from the front power/reset panel. You're going to need 4 of them (red/brown, and orange/yellow). The Orange/Yellow are (+ / -) respective of the Reset switch, and the Red/Brown are (+ / -) respective of the Power switch. Label these, and I will explain how to use them later.
So now, you have the front panel power button stripped, and labelled. Get your RPi power supply, and strip the wire down short enough so that the excess wire does not clutter the inside of your NES, you need all the precious space you can get. Solder the (+) end of the RPi power supply to the (+ / red) wire from the front panel power switch. Then, solder the (-) end of the switch to the (+) end of the now stripped micro USB power adapter end. You now have a working power switch for your RPi!
http://lifehacker.com/5994036/add-a-reset-switch-to-a-raspberry-pi
(for Rev 2)
(for Rev 1, use jbaker1225's acquired reset button)
Now, for Rev 2 wiring of the reset switch. This is easier than the power switch. You're going to need to follow the video above, and once that's done, just solder the (+ and -) ends (orange/yellow as stated prior) to an adapter like this (found in old pc cases) ...
http://img.tomshardware.com/us/2002/09/18/building_your_own_pc/panel_leitungen.jpg
Then plug it into the headers that you installed using the lifehacker video.
Now comes the fun part, actually assembling the NES. First thing to put in should be the RPi, find a comfortable place for it. Then place the Xbox wireless adapter in there, make sure it is adjacent to a wall and facing outwards (you're going to need to click that button to sync the controllers). Place the power bar inside, and then plug in the 2 power adapters (for the usb hub, and the RPi). Lastly, place the USB Hub somewhere where all the wires are easily accessible (I placed mine on top of the RPi and glued lego to the bottom of it, but you don't have to do this). Once you have found a comfortable place for each material, super glue a piece of lego beside the part to ensure it does not move when being transported. The lego acts as a spacer from other internals, and the top of the NES should keep everything in place. The way I secured the RPi was a little different, but can be seen in the gallery. Plug the HDMI cable in, and lead it out of the case, if it does not fit out of any of the precut holes for the NES, time to take out that exacto knife and candle. Heat up the blade with the candle, then press into the NES where you want to cut a hole. The results of this are seen in the gallery.
I followed the same guide jbaker1225 did, and it is referenced here...
http://supernintendopi.wordpress.com/
I'm not going to go in depth on how to install ROMS, that can all be found above, and through other various online RPi resources.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I have been using it for years now. I prefer gaming with a controller I can lean all the way back and kick my feet up. Conflicted on how I'm going to play first person view in GTAV for PC, I hate playing any fps with a controller unless it's an rpg. A
But prefer driving and flying with a controller, GTA has been like that though.
You can get a wired controller and plug it in or get the wireless receiver like this
If you already own a wireless Xbox 360 controller I recommend you buy this
>xbox 360 wireless controller plugged in with the usb cable and no luck due to me not having bluetooth capabilities.
Xbox 360 Wireless needs a proprietary wifi dongle... it's not bluetooth. It says Windows, but I've used it on linux with xboxdrv: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2 I've never had any luck with it being wired either.
Personally, I enjoy the Sony DS4, but it does require a bluetooth connection. You can buy a generic usb dongle for cheap though.
I haven't used a pair of A2DP headphones for gaming, though I do use my Motorola S9-HD while exercising.
In regards to a bluetooth mic, I used to have an ok headset (mono+mic) but with noticeable lag and shitty battery life I decided to stop using it.
I now use the Xbox 360 Wireless Headset in conjunction with the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver which work great.
When I'm not using my speakers on my PC, I have a pair of Sennheiser HD555s with an iBasso D2 (apparently no longer sold) USB Digital to Analog Converter/Headphone Amp.
As a PC/Xbox 360 gamer, this is one of the best investments I've ever made. Now, any controller I buy works for both 360 and PC.
http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/Halo_2_Vista
only way. need... a PC version of halo 2, xbox 360 controller USB or wireless adapter, xbox live account (gold)
i still play somtimes. theres usually only one enjoyable game going on aside from that its all just big levels and people messing around.
I bought this one, which is the official microsoft receiver, and its been great. it came in black, but it works and sits behind my computer so whatever.
I used the microsoft drivers for it as well. make sure you go here to get the driver for your correct OS. after installing the driver, go into device manager find the 360 controller for windows (it may show up as an unknown device at first) and "update" the driver by selecting that you would like to choose the drive form the list. find the wireless receiver in the list and you will be good to go. here is a good description within a forum post about getting it to work. let me know if you have any questions. i have it up and running on 64bit win 7 without any problems.
EDIT: I have also used this with 3 simultaneous controllers without issues, FYI.
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_jNmLDbJH2Z8YB
Easiest thing to do would be to buy a wired 360 controller.
The game works perfectly with the 360 controller, no setup required.
If you go the wireless route you do need to purchase a wireless receiver. I bought a cheap knock-off receiver (was a lot cheaper than the official one) but windows doesn't automatically detect it as a 360 controller wireless receiver. You have to do the whole device manager dance to get the correct driver loaded. After that it worked perfectly. I imagine the official wireless receiver will be plug-and-play with windows 10.

Here's what you need to use your Wireless Xbox controller on a Windows PC.
Let me start off by saying that I haven't done this yet, I just ordered my wired controller today. But, yes you can connect your xbox controller to your Mac. If you have a wired controller I believe all you need to do is download this driver. For wireless controllers you need one of these for the controller to be recognized, however, I'm not sure if this will work for OSX, but it'll work through bootcamp I'd imagine. Hope this helps in some way!
> I have a wireless controller but I plugged it in w the Plug and Play USB cable that charges it.
The Play n Charge cable carries ONLY power to charge the controller batteries. No data.
> Do I need something else?
Yes, the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows will allow you to connect the wireless controller to your PC. Please note that there is a different version for the Xbox One wireless controller and that the two are not compatible (360 controller doesn't work on Xbone adapter, Xbone controller doesn't work on 360 adapter). Or a wired version of either controller, which you just plug and play.
>dieselmachine-
You don't always have that option. They discontinued the plug-in controller, and the wireless one doesn't work with a PC.
Unless something has changed? Are you aware of some hot news that I may have missed?
You are wrong twice:
Wired controller still available on amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Controller-for-Windows/dp/B000BT4CF4/ref=pd_rhf_shvl_42
Wireless works with windows with an adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1290241288&sr=8-3
Bonus: wireless controller with the adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B000KA5T6A/ref=pd_sim_vg_5
Bluetooth adapters might work with the new xbox controllers, but if you're using the 360 wireless controllers, you need THIS ONE.
I tried using the one r/ACiDiCACiDiCA recommended and it does not work with 360 controllers.
360 controllers work great, and are cheaper and more plentiful than the new ones. If you don't own a xbone, i recommend them.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
This?
Are you certain? The charging kits you can buy for XBOX controllers are power only, no data. Even when plugged in they still communicate wirelessly. If this is the case you need the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows. Almost all XBOX 360 controllers are wireless unless you specifically bought a wired one.
When plugged in, if you download and install the controller drivers it will look like they installed fine, because they have, but there is no data connection to the controller so it just doesn't show up. All indicators suggest it is installed correctly, but it just won't show up in your controller utility.
It's plug and play, it will auto find your drivers.
Just buy any xbox controller, I would stick with an actual Microsoft product. I have a bias because of how shitty all third party stuff used to be though. Also I find Razr is overpriced, while nice, but I feel you are just paying for a label. I don't know about the Razr, but I like being able to use my controller with an Xbox or my computer.
You can get a wireless controller, that is what I use. You just have to buy the adapter. It's much handier being cordless.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I've used the microsoft one for over a year without any problems.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
None, you need this. It takes up to four controllers.
This reciever allows you to use up to 4 wireless 360 controllers with your PC, I coupled this with a 50' HDMI to my 32" TV in my family room to my gaming rig in my room and BAM! I have a quick switch between Console and PC using Steam's Big Picture mode!
Well depends what you prefer, but I can recommend the xbox 360 controller. And for that you'll need one of these.
The Play n' Charge kit only provides power to the controller, you need to get the wireless receiver to use your controller on your PC.
It is possible, you would just have to buy one of these.

CPU and GPU - It comes with what is close to an R7 240 GPU. Should be competent in new stuff at 720p, and maybe even 1080p with the settings turned down.
Mobo - has the form factor you want, but also built in WiFi
RAM - These APU's like high speed memory. Make sure to manually share 2gb to it and set the correct xmp profile.
HDD - What you asked for. Although splurging a little to also add an SSD for the OS will make it feel a lot faster.
Case - One of the smaller ones that will take a normal sized Optical drive.
PSU - Whatever it'll work.
Optical Drive - Blu-Ray reader.

Any Xbox 360 guitar will do (provided you have the Xbox wireless adapter) but lately Wii guitars have risen in popularity due to an adapter popularized by Acai. It's currently sold out, but another shipment is due in about a week.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Correct - http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 -- you'd need this for PC.
Any wired 360 controller will work with a PC. If you want to use a wireless one, you can, but you need to purchase a dongle for it. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
The dongle will let 4 controllers and 4 headsets connect to your PC.
Well, it doesn't fix the problem, but you could pick one of these bad boys up and still use multiple controllers with your pc.

if you already have a 360, buy this http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2 , I have it and works quite good as a gamepad
I'll share my set up with you and answer some questions.
I sought to do the same as you, so I built "EmuBox." It's an HTPC/Emulation combo. It can play games from the good old arcade days all the way up to Wii. It runs on Windows 8.1, using EmulationStation as a frontend and RetroArch as a backend. It also uses PCSX2, Dolphin, and PPSSPP as backends. I play using an Xbox 360 controller because it has native Windows support. For HTPC usage, I use Kodi.
First of all, for controllers, I highly recommend a wireless adapter for Xbox 360. You plug the adapter into one USB port and it can serve four controllers. Next, for hardware. If you want to play some newer systems like PS2 and Wii, you will need something more powerful. And yes, it's true, Intel is better than AMD for emulation because Intel processors have fewer, more powerful individual cores than AMD (AMD uses more, less powerful cores model). Dolphin and PCSX2 can be very CPU demanding. For that reason, I got a Intel i5-4460 for the job. Dolphin's forum recommends a minimum of an Intel i5-2xxx. If you go for an Intel i5-6600, you'll be golden. If you want to overclock, get the i5-6600K (and a motherboard that supports overclocking). For a motherboard, I chose a MicroATX motherboard, but if you want to go real SFF, go for an ITX motherboard. As mentioned before in this thread, PCPartPicker is your friend. 8 GBs of RAM is sufficient, you could probably get by on 4 GBs.
It took quite a bit of time to get everything working the way I wanted. I had a few goals in mind: no keyboard/mouse, no need for desktop. Basically, I wanted a "console." So, I set up EmulationStation so it automatically starts up when the PC starts up. Next, I used a program called JoytoKey and configured my Xbox controller so that the Xbox button (center button) is the equivalent of pressing Alt-F4 (only on certain programs, I made EmulationStation an exception so I didn't accidentally exited out of EmulationStation to the desktop). I set up RetroArch and ran the controller configuration (I had to borrow three Xbox controllers for set up, all had to be connected at the same time for four player configuration). Next, I set up Dolphin and PCSX2 and PPSSPP. Unfortunately, PCSX2 was the biggest cause of headache because PS2 emulation varies between each game... I only have a handful of PS2 games that work "out of the box" with that program. Dolphin, on the other hand, has been very stable. And finally, after all configuration was complete, I loaded up the ROMS, scrapped the games with the scrapper, and booted up the system.
Currently, the system works very well. I played Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (GCN) all day yesterday with no problems. I can play the PC version of Skyrim (using the Xinput feature of the game), and I even have some visual novels like Fate/Stay Night supported. I plan on adding more PC games later, assuming they support Xinput. The beauty of systems like these is I never had to take out a keyboard or mouse. I had it plugged into the TV and only used the Xbox controller.
They do sell wireless receivers separately. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2

Best I can for you. Btw You have the worlds knowledge at your fingertips, all you need do is apply the right query.
Just get a wireless receiver for your wireless controller!
Or you can just get one of these and use a wireless Xbox 360 controller. You probably won't want to share the controller between your PC and your 360, however, as re-binding it back and forth would be a pain. (You'd have the same problem sharing one controller between two 360s.)
You are correct in that it's quite helpful to have one of these things, however. There are other controllers that will work, but the 360 controller is the best supported.
Heya!
Yeah, exactly!...That thingy :)
Been working great for us!
What are you using? The wired controllers I assume?
You will need an adapter like this. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You just buy a controller online like any one in the USA?
Being outside the us has nothing to do with this question. A basic google search will answer this question.

Um.. if you haven't already, you will also need to pick up one of these if you don't want a wired controler...
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Otherise the wired ones, I'm told, are USB and you can just plug in. It's very nice to have because a lot of games default to the xbox layout automatically.
If the game supports controller use, then yes its just plug and play. Shift 2 Unleashed definitely works. Don't know about FIFA but if Steam says full controller support you should be good.
If you want to use a controller in a game that doesn't support it, or use the controller like a mouse in Windows, then you need something like JoyToKey to map the controller inputs to your keyboard and mouse.
For the wireless controller I believe you need to purchase a USB wireless receiver separately like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Just like the controllers I think there are Microsoft versions and also cheaper 3rd party versions.
In case you have a wireless controller you'd like to use, get one of these.
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2
The usb cable is for power only, no data is sent through it. You'll have to go on amazon or ebay and search for "xbox 360 wireless adapter"
Should look like this
unfortunately not that I know of, but you can do this or buy this
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
There is currently no support for OS X with the new SDK - so at this point, you'll need a windows install. Don't know if parallels will work - I assume windows needs to be in control of the displays.
For the Xbox controllers, supposedly wireless ones work if you've got a receiver dongle.
That controller is wireless and you'll need a wireless adapter to make it work. The mini USB cable is only for charging.
EDIT: no data is ever sent over that cable, just like the regular play and charge kit
Xbox wireless controllers can't connect to a PC unless you have one of these
it worked flawlessly on my windows 8.1 rig no problems and amazon has a great selection:http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/176-5185032-6259340
Also interestingly it may have automatically installed drivers itself because I didn't need to install them and may not have noticed or maybe my wired Xbox 360 controller drivers worked for it. Anywho it works fine and all my games accept it easily and the integration is seamless
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?qid=1426053786&sr=8-7&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70&keywords=xbox+360+controler+pc&dpPl=1&dpID=41V%2BrA2w78L&ref=plSrch
I just ordered one of these. If you already have an wireless Xbox controller it should be great.
I got mine right from Amazon last month for $16. A lot of people were complaining in reviews that theirs weren't official, but mine is a legit Microsoft one. Works like a charm, was plugged in and connected in under 10 seconds.
Here ya go!
The adapter you have is for Xbox One wireless controllers. They use a different wireless spec than the 360 controllers use. To use a wireless 360 controller on the PC you'll need this adapter.
Buy this :D (make sure you buy the OFFICIAL MICROSOFT one) That's what I use to fly. Note* free head movement sucks... http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B000HZFCT2/ref=dp_olp_new?ie=UTF8&condition=new
I know it's kinda cheating, but Microsoft actually has a device for hooking up a 360 controller to a PC.
Assuming you bought this any wireless Xbox 360 controller should work. At least that's my understanding.
I spent a little extra money and bought the official one But yes OP, you can absolutely do this with no trouble. I just leave it plugged into the back of my computer, so all I have to do is turn on my controller and I'm ready to go. Though you do have to pop the battery pack off the controller once you're done to get it to turn off
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - Doesnt look legit by the screenshots but its exactly what i have, and a licensed microsoft product.
Yes. I'm using my wireless Xbox 360 with my PC. All you will need is the wireless adapter from the link below.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is for Xbox one accessories only, you'll need a 360 wireless adapter for 360 accessories.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2
I don't know if it will work with the wheel or not though.
I have seen Xbox controller adapters like this. Apparently they work well.

Your best bet for finding the adapter sold separate is probably online. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&m=A3BVFOU06EC1JZ
my local Best Buy sells the adapter with a 360 Black Wireless for Windows controller in the PC Gamepad and Mouse section, but it is $59.99 for the pack.
Assuming you have a wireless controller you'll need the 360 controller adapter for windows. Like this one off amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?qid=1370112642&sr=8-8&pi=SL75
and then you'll need the osx driver which can be found here:
http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/ProjectRoot/Xbox360Controller/OsxDriver
Yes with this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=mp_s_a_1_13?qid=1395017546&sr=8-13&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
you can get a wired xbox 360 controller. however, Microsoft did make a xbox 360 wireless controller adapter. it comes with a driver disc and I'm not sure but you can try to find the drivers online if you don't have an optical drive. I bought one a while back to use with a laptop and it worked great.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469665520&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+controller+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41EbDtTehbL&ref=plSrch
For me, it was a bit easier to get my 360 controller working.
I bought it a few years ago, and it still works flawlessly. If that's too many steps for someone, then I weep for the future.
Ordered one of these last week. Hope this helps. Dunno the translation but I'm sure it's cheaper than what was mentioned.

I think you mean Xbox controller, and [yes, you can!] (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2)

I found one on Amazon:http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2I must say, I live in the Netherlands and they're quite hard to find here.Scratch that, apparently that one isn't genuine.
Something like https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I had one already for using 360 controllers wirelessly with pc and steam link
One dongle can pair 4 controllers just like an xbox. I've not any issues using these with retropie
Non-mobile: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/176-5185032-6259340

Not sure if you're aware of it or not, but if you buy this you'll be able to use the controllers with the FTV.
You mean like a USB adapter for 360 wireless controllers? Like this?

As far as the PC is concered a controller is a controller. I use my 360 controller by using this wireless adapter
If you want to play NES, SNES, GBA or even Gamecube games, an xbox controller will work fine (your machine will need nice hardware to keep a smooth 60fps for gamecube). ZSNES, VBA and Dolphin are the emulators I use (never bothered with NES games). There are plenty of standalone emulators for many other consoles as well. I've really been enjoying PCSX2 on my new computer. You don't need a rasberry pi or need to use a collective program like emulationstation. In fact, it's probably preferable to download individual emulators so you can pick and choose exactly what interests you, not to mention a lot easier as well. This site gives links to the different emulators available for various consoles. There are no links to games on it, you've got to find those on your own.
You'll need to buy microsoft's wireless usb receiver to get your xbox controller hooked up though. It's a shame because I can just connect my DS3 with a USB cable or bluetooth and use third-party driver software to emulate a 360 controller for free, but let's not get into that because god knows the console war has raged too hard in this thread already.
I think this is the one I've got.
However, I noticed something weird. When playing it using emulators, the triggers worked. When playing Dead Pixels, the triggers worked.
However, when playing FEAR, the triggers did not work, but all the other buttons did. So. Beats me.
Regardless, it's been a faithful receiver for me and it's been sitting on my desktop for months now with no end in sight. Pretty good purchase.
Big Picture is just an interface - a different way to view the same list of games. If you are running the Big Picture steam client beta, you can access Big Picture on your desktop PC by launching steam and clicking the Big Picture logo in the corner. So yes, you need a dedicated PC attached to your TV if you want to use Big Picture on your TV. The performance of the games accessed via the Big Picture interface should only vary if your tv or cabling has greater latency than your PC monitor.
Personally, I bought a 50 foot HDMI cable to connect my PC to my TV when they were in separate rooms and it worked great. This is the first I've heard of HDMI over ethernet - that sounds pretty cool! I suppose it's really only useful if you plan on exceeding 50 feet of HDMI or if you have in wall Ethernet cabling already installed in your home. No idea how it would effect latency.
As for controllers, if you are exceeding 10 feet, going through walls, etc, then you are going to have trouble with many bluetooth devices. This is a problem I was never able to fully solve, and now my PC is next to my TV so it's no longer an issue for me. When it was, I usually used my 360 controller as my primary input device while on the couch, as I typically only played on the couch when I wanted to kick back and mash some buttons. I'd recommend getting a wireless 360 controller receiver. Mine worked fine traveling about 20 feet through 2 walls with no noticeable performance issues.
Correction: It is not a bluetooth device. There are USB adapters, however, to connect wireless 360 controllers to a PC. At retail, they are only available packaged with a controller - however, they can be found on EBay without the included controller. You can also sometimes find on amazon just the receiver.
I just picked up a set on amazon earlier this week for 39.99 on sale, complete with controller. Newegg also had a deal yesterday for the same.
The package you would look for is here: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWKQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1348240766&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+controller+pc
Or, just the adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=pd_cp_vg_0
Otherwise, you can just use a "wired" 360 controller, here: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wired-Controller-Black/dp/B003ZSN600/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1348240793&sr=1-1&keywords=xbox+controller+wired
Finally, note that a "play and charge" cable does not allow you to connect to the PC. it must be a real, native, wired controller, or you must have the windows wireless adapter.
Yeah I highly recommend using an Xbox Controller:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 (best purchase ever)
then you will need this:
http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?tag=dsfix
this should fix the resolution/graphics problem.
if you insist on playing with mouse keyboard then that fix should also let you hide the mouse and confine it to the screen.
what, are you expecting TVs to just magically recieve 1080p/60 data over wifi when the TV probably doesn't even have a network cable plug?
also, Big Picture isn't available for Macs yet. (Not to mention 2008 macbooks aren't exactly gaming powerhouses..)
If you want a system from the ground up, head over to /r/buildapc , they can help you sort out building a system that wil do what you want.
as for an xbox 360 controller, if it's wired, you just plug it in. if it's wireless, you'll need to buy an adapter.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
[Wireless Receiver] (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2)
oh, right the wireless 360 controllers would need a receiver, so I misunderstood you.
Of course. If it's wireless, you have to buy this to make it work on your PC.
If it's a wired controller, however, you're good to go. If you have Windows 7, it should just install the driver automatically when you plug it in. Otherwise, here's a driver download. If for whatever reason that driver doesn't work, I'd just google another.
A wireless controller with a Charge and Play kit will not work without an adapter.
WAIT DON'T GET THAT ONE!!!!!! Thats a fake. It will get very hot and not work very well. This is a real one, i know because I actually own one, and have handled a fake. So make sure to get the genuine one.
I didn't want it until I found this.
I dont play much FIFA online so its not a huge problem. I just tried and I found a game rather quickly. Most people pirate the game so IDK if they'd be able to play the game online. I'll go look at how many players are online and let you know. Also if you do get it for PC i'll definitely play you.
I'm gonna go with all three. Getting the PS4 at launch, since I pretty much agree with everything you said about the PS3. I started the current-gen with a 360 and didn't get a PS3 until about 18 months ago. Sony does have the best exclusives (for my personal tastes) and they have far better customer service (PS+) so going with the PS4 is a no-brainer for me.
I'm planning on upgrading my PC's GPU shortly after the PS4's launch, from an HD 6850 to a 7970.
I'll pick up the Xbox One eventually but I'm in no hurry on that front.
>More ps4 than pc for me since I don't like playing on mouse or keyboard.
I prefer mouse/keyboard for first person shooters, but I gotta have a controller for racing games and third-person action games.
I just bought this because I picked up some games during the Steam sale that don't work well with mouse/keyboard. Driver: San Francisco in particular. It works really well.
That seems a bit overkill for an HTPC, but it would be able to handle anything you want to throw at it, including games on high or ultra settings. It seems like a pretty good price, but you may be able to haggle a bit if you don't need the printer.
Also, to connect a wireless Xbox 360 controller to a PC, you'll need one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1374525438&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+wireless+receiver
A few thoughts:
To the extent it's helpful, here's the machine I built in January that I use for XBMC, Dolphin and Windows 7. Feel free to ask me any questions since it sounds like you're heading down the same path that I did and I'm happy to try to help guide you.

I thought that I was going to like using the controller a lot more (I had just come from Xbox) so I bought one of these but I haven't used it barely at all and haven't even updated the drivers due to the fact that I like the feel of a mouse and a keyboard a lot more.
This one?
I suggest a device like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Allows you to connect up to 4 devices at once and connects to any wireless 360 controller.
I bought one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
about two years ago. They're fantastic. You can connect up to 4 controllers, each with accessories (except the typing pad, that doesn't work, but headsets do) all in one usb port. Also win7/8 has the drivers for it built in, so no need to install anything.
I've managed to get an Xbox360 wireless controller working with one of these (since the wireless XBox controllers use a proprietary radio signal, not bluetooth) and this, but each time it's a crapshoot whether or not it'll work, so I would not necessarily recommend.
I have also had the opportunity to use a wireless PS3 controller, and it worked flawlessly right away. I didn't use it for very long (I borrowed it for testing purposes from a friend), so I don't have a lot of experience... but it seems like a better bet.
Not that expensive...
The legitimate Microsoft-built Wireless adapter (Also on Amazon, here) is one dollar more expensive. Why not get that instead?
You can have the PC somewhat function like a console with Steam Big Picture. The wired Xbox 360 controller is plug and play with Windows, but the wireless needs an adapter. In order to switch from gaming to tv and movies, you would have to use the TV's remote to switch inputs. Steam Big Picture is pretty customizable and you can make Steam default to it when you launch Steam, but I'm not sure if you can set Windows to boot straight into it. I'd bet you can, but I wouldn't know how to do it. You can just get a wireless keyboard with a built in mouse like this one and you can get to steam easily that way. As for the VHS tapes, I would just hook the VCR into one of the inputs on the TV. I can post a build for you later if you want. I'm sure you'll get a couple of suggestions though.

Buy the CPU and motherboard at Microcenter for the bundle discount.
If it's a wireless controller, you will need this: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/
If it's a wired controller, plug it in your computer... done!
Nope, it won't work. You'll need this one
So you're asking a few different questions here.
First off, yes wireless Xbox 360 controllers work with the PC, but you need a wireless receiver.
I use one and they work great. I regularly use it with my buddies because it supports up to 4 controllers and we play local games all the time.
Also, yes, you can connect your computer to your TV with an HDMI cable. Depending on the model of you computer, you should get sound too, just they way you with other devices. You might need to configure the TV a bit as far as adjusting the resolution and choosing at as a sound output, but if you're running Windows 10, most of this happens for you automatically now.
Alternatively, you could also get him a Steamlink
They mirror steam games (or whatever you want really) right onto the TV. You can plug controllers into them and play the games without moving your computer. You need a good wireless router to do this, or better yet a wired network. If your computer is already close to the TV, then I wouldn't bother doing this. This is a better option when the computer is in a den or office, and the TV is in a family room or basement.
This would be what you would be looking for sorry for the long link. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1480217169&sr=8-1&keywords=XBOX+360+WIRELESS+CONTROLLER+TO+USB+RECEIVER+-+BLACK
You need the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows.
This is what I use You plug it in and connect your controllers to it like you would an xbox 360.
After connecting you need to map out your controller (tell which buttons do what). Upon the very first initial startup of retropi it should prompt you to map an input device / controller. I mapped my keyboard first, so I had to go back to the start menu to remap the 360 controller once it was connected.
Wireless. I use the official Microsoft adapter. There's cheaper, 3rd-party adapters available but I dunno how reliable they are.
Why has no one mentioned this yet?
Yes but I am not sure if that actually submits data I think it is just power. OP look into this first if not you can get a wireless adapter for windows. link
Why not just get the WiFi adapter for the wireless controllers?
> Receiving range up to 30 feet with 4 different devices.
edit: also if you want to stick to wired why not get a pcie card with extra usb slots so you don't need to use a hub?
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Yes you need an adapter for your wireless 360 controller. Just plug this into one of the USB ports on your steamlink and you should be good to go. I have the same setup at home.
Just get yourself a wired XBox 360 controller.
Another option is this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
It lets you use a wireless Xbox controller, which is perfect for me.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1345070428&sr=8-5&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+adapter
$20. Works flawlessly.
Also, an official wired 360 controller works with PC out of the box.
http://www.amazon.ca/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver/dp/B000HZFCT2 This is exactly what you need.
Also, you can buy Xpadder online, and completely map your controls including mouse, to your thumbsticks. It's fucking awesome BUY IT
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
One of these
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
similarly this, though it looks like its almost doubled in price since I got mine.
Both the 360 and One controllers have an available adapter for use with PC. In the case of the 360 controller specifically, there are plenty of cheaper, third party alternatives.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-Windows-one/dp/B00ZB7W4QU/
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You'll need one of those. You can find them cheaper if you look. If you get an off brand, you can get them really cheap. The Xbox controller connects using a proprietary connection, not a standard like Bluetooth.
You can use a PS3 controller if it has bluetooth built in on the Alpha, but you'll need a special program. Pretty easy to set up IIRC.
Speaking of these, have you guys noticed the price doubling on the "Microsoft" branded adapter on amazon? Used to be 15, jumped up to 27 about a week ago.
Does the zettaguard or generic adapter get recognized by the pi immediately like the official adapter or do you have to do updates to get it recognized?
If you already have a wireless 360 controller, get this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1334848601&sr=8-5
It's even on sale right now for $10
I personally prefer the Xbox 360 wireless receiver + 360 controller. The "main" analog stick is in the spot were your thumbs naturally rest and I also like the fact that when I have my friends over I don't need 3 other USB controllers, they can bring their own 360 ones. I use this layout most of the time I play. I find it to the be the best compromise seeing as you can access to the all the c-buttons from the "c-stick" and you can quick access to the two more important c-buttons from Y and B. In Zelda, did you ever set an often used item to the right c-button? I never did, because it took longer press it.
If you have a wired controller you just plug it in. Wireless controllers require you to buy a receiver.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342368970&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+pc+receiver
I recommend buying one of these. I use it all the time and works with a ton of games. Best 20 bucks I've ever spent. Besides, Xbox 360 has my favorite controller.
As mentioned earlier just plug it in if wired (wireless with charging wire doesn't work).
I highly recommend one of these, especially if your setup is like mine and hooked up to a TV.
Why don't you buy one of these?
I've got one of them, works fine.
you cant play the games but you can still use the controller, if it has a cord you should be fine if it s wireless you will need one of these http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
There should be an adapter that you connect to your PC via USB.
Just have to throw this in after seeing a yellow dot...
I'm playing Alice Madness Returns right now... It's pretty linear (brings back memories of crash bandicoot) and the puzzles aren't really brain busters, but the visuals are STUNNING, and the storyline is kinda an odd, freaky but somehow intriguing mystery as to who killed your family. The game is obviously aimed at giving you these phenomenal views and scenes, as there are places where you could easily walk right by a gorgeous vantage point, but there will be a little icon that shows up. Press the required button and the camera changes to frame the scene. And boy, are there scenes. Every level has places where you'll stop to do a double take without the aforementioned camera-button-thing. The detail that goes into each level is incredible.
The fighting system seems repetitive at first, but that's purely because as the game goes on you get hit with much harder combinations of baddies and the early encounters are there to prepare you for fighting certain combinations of enemies. The game uses physX so there's some nifty effects, for instance when you use your ranged weapon, a pepper grinder, there's pepper smoke that come out of the barrel and there's cracked pepper shells that disperse all over the ground. There's a lot of enemies who appear out of this black ooze that leave a big puddle of black when you kill them - a big puddle that you can kick around. PHYSX! Oh yeah, and when you die, you explode into butterflies.
Not exactly the hardest game, but It will take you a surprising amount of time to get through the game - its pretty long and some of the fights are just plain tough. It's no BF3, but it is a good game to play if you're looking for a trippy/pretty/steampunk/asian-y/dark creep-out fest.
This game has 360 controller support, so I suggest if you want to get the full experience to find one of these. I really enjoy using the 360 controller for games like Alice, Batman and Red Faction: Guerilla.
Good luck!
I use my wireless.. but I had to buy a special usb compatible wireless controller receiver: here it is at amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
You'll either need this kind of wireless adapter or to get a regular wired controller.
The IR receiver was $12 (when i bought it)on amazon. It's $20 now
There are wireless Xbox 360 receivers for PCs - I have two of them! Be aware that the official ones are hard to come by and long out of production. Cheap Chinese clones work just fine, but you have to manually install the drivers, and Windows 10 has an annoying habit of disabling it after updates.
here
I've read that the new xbone adaper WILL work for xbox 360, so double check on that. I'm not sure of the compatibility with windows 10 of the item I linked.
If neither of those options work, you might be able to use a micro USB cable to connect the controller to the PC.
Get one of [these guys] (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2)
So, wait, you have a wireless Xbox controller, and a USB receiver (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2), what do you need another cable for?
I also have a wireless Xbox 360 controller that I use with that exact receiver that I linked to in order to use the controller with games on my PC. I use no other cables.
I'm also not sure what you mean by "syncing" the controller. When I switch my controller between my Xbox 360 and my PC, I have to hit the Controller Connect button on the wireless receiver (the one button on it) and then a similar button on the back of the wireless controller. If that's the process you're referring to, you shouldn't have to use a cable for that.
EDIT: This is the process I take, and this guide lays out the equipment you should need (only the controller + the receiver): http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933710
Seriously? Man, that's bull! I have the original one.
This one won't work?
This is all you need to have the best of both worlds.

Then you map the buttons in the emulator's options. The wireless signal should be strong enough to reach from the office to the TV room if its close enough.
Alternatively you can look into getting a $50 steamlink, which is designed for streaming games and you're able to connect the controller to the machine.
You can certainly do split screen on PC. We have a 'HTPC' with an Ivybridge i5 & gtx 570 for just this reason (built when I upgraded my gaming PC).
Here is a list of local co-op games on steam: http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Local%20Co-Op/#p=0&tab=TopSellers
You can get a wireless dongle so your xbox 360 controllers will work with the PC: http://www.amazon.ca/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver/dp/B000HZFCT2
I'm pretty sure the xbox 360 wireless receiver would work for it like any other wireless 360 controller
I make the Roll Limitless adapter someone else mentioned. The guitar adapter will work. If the guitar is wireless you'll also need Microsoft's 360 to USB adapter (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2). The drums adapter will not work with 360 drums (It only works with e-kits).
Did you install the drivers for your controller? If you did and its still not working, get a wired Microsoft Xbox 360 controller or wired Microsoft Xbox 1 controller. You can see it's much cheaper to get the wired 360 controller. If you absolutely want a wireless controller, you could get either the wireless Xbox 360 controller and the Windows Xbox 360 adapter or wireless Xbox 1 controller with Windows adapter (old version) or wireless Xbox 1 controller with Windows adapter (new version). Since they're made by Microsoft, they work fine with Windows. Logitech also makes a few good controllers, the wired Logitech Gamepad F310 and the wireless Logitech Gamepad F710. I personally have a wired Microsoft 360 controller and a wireless Logitech F710 and from my experience, the official Microsoft controllers work best with games. I hope that helps.
IS the 360 controller an ACTUAL wireless 360 controller with the charger pack usb cable connected to it or a 360 controller for windows (not wireless)?
Many people plug a 360 controller into their PC with the charger cable and expect it to work as a game pad. It does not, it simply charges the game pad.
For it to work on PC you either need to buy the 360 gamepad for windows or a special adapter:
Adapter: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Wired gamepad for windows: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWLA/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1420747163&sr=1-1&keywords=360+gamepad+for+windows
Just get this and wireless 360 controllers.
If you don't want to use the wired, there is a dongle made for the PC that allows wireless. I use it and it works flawlessly, and allows 4 simultaneous controllers, its the way to go IMHO.
This may be old info, I bought mine a few years ago, but the only way to get a licensed wireless dongle was to buy the PC version of the controller (it was called xbox controller for windows live or some crap, and no you dont actually need windows live). The "offbrand" dongles would work, but some have reported crappy results. I think the way to tell a fake from the real deal is the real one just had microsoft on the front and the fakes had Xbox360. This is misleading because the fakes come in microsoft packaging.
Hope that helps.
edit: here is a fake
here is the real one
notice the people who made the fake are some tricky fuckers

Amazon link.
If you get a ps2 or wii guitar then the best adapter you could get is a raphnet adapter on their website.https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/wusbmote_1player_adapter_v2/index.php this is the link to the wii one, but it's out of stock right now. https://www.raphnet-tech.com/products/psx_to_usb/index.php and here's the link to the ps2 one.
If you wanna get a 360 adapter then you'll need to get an adapter like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share it doesn't have to be this exact one. I got this one, but only cus it was used. You can find similar ones that should work well enough.
What phone do you have?
I use an otg adapter and a wireless pc adapter for my wireless 360 controller. I didn't have to install anything extra. I imagine if you had a wired controller you would just need the otg adapter.
I think this is the otg adapter I use.
http://www.amazon.com/eForCity%C2%AE-Micro-USB-OTG-Adapter/dp/B005QX7KYU
This is the wireless receiver that I use.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1419350571&sr=1-3&keywords=x+box+360+wireless+controller+adapter
Dear god you're stupid. I'm sorry but you really are.
No, she doesn't need a wireless adapter for each controller. I have one Xbox adapter and it supports more than one controller at a time.
Edit : I bought mine from this guy
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1419919357&sr=8-2&keywords=Xbox+360+wireless+dongle
As far as I know, you would need the Xbox 360 controller wireless receiver. There's no bluetooth option for those controllers.
If the game has local co-op. You can either connect with a usb cord, or buy a receiver http://www.amazon.ca/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver/dp/B000HZFCT2. I play local co-op games with my brothers all the time
Also use this site to figure out which games are local co-op http://www.co-optimus.com/
if they are wireless you'd need a dongle like this one
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1499300594&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+dongle
if they're wired they're basically plug and play
if you're thinking about only using one controller at a time I would recommend a new one though
Here is the receiver you will need to use: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/
Be careful when buying, because there are a lot of counterfeit receivers floating around, and while these will work fine on Windows if you force the driver install, they will not work at all on Android. If it says Microsoft on it, it's the genuine article; counterfeits will say Xbox 360 or have nothing at all written on them.
One receiver supports up to 4 controllers. When I tested the receiver on my Shield, everything on the controllers worked fine except the player indicator, which just kept flashing as if it was still trying to connect to the console. That was under Nougat, and I don't know if that's been patched with the Oreo upgrade. Either way, though, it's only cosmetic and won't impede play in any way.
Another vote for the wireless Logitech F710 (and against bluetooth). Also, the Wireless Receiver for Windows might be an option, assuming you have a bunch of Xbox 360 controller laying around :)
How it goes with the xbox 360 controllers, is that there is only two ways of connecting to the PC:
1.) Directly connected with a controller with the cable built in, not any of the controllers with batteries or battery packs. The Play and Charge cable is only for charging your controller(s)' and/or playing directly connected to a xbox360. But not supported for PC play.
2.) A specific wireless dongle that will allow your wireless controllers to connect wirelessly to your computer.
The links are only to Amazon, and there will definitely be better deals to be found. Hopefully this helps out.
Good Luck, Have Fun.
I mean this one:
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Q537Bb7CM8Z8D
Works great on my shield, Sony TV, PC, just about every game I've thrown at it. (Not thatmany, but still). I figured it the 360 one works well, the xb1 version should work well also.
I use my old 360 controller and this and it works like a charm.
Unless you mean it doesn't have gamepad support? That would seem kinda weird though if it's coming to PS4.
The Xbone adapter doesn't work, you need a 360 adapter
It looks like you might have a lot of misconceptions. First off, you don't "lose sound" when using a TV. Just like with a console, if your TV has speakers, the PC will play sound through those speakers. If you want to get a separate speaker system, that is fine too. In fact, even a cheap surround system will likely sound significantly better than your TV's integrated sound.
As for the controller, it's extremely easy. You just plug it in, and that's it. IF you want to use a wireless Xbox 360 controller, you can use something like this with it.
You can post your specs in this post. That would be the easiest way for us to assist you. I'm going to go out on a limb here and say an old pre-built probably isn't going to take very well to new hardware, but after you post specs, we can go from there.

Microsoft-branded wireless adapters require almost zero setup on Win 7+. Plug it in, give it a few seconds to find/install the hardware, sync controller, done. (and then you're ready to add up to 3 more controllers, easy peasy)
EDIT: If you're going with wired, get the Xbox One controller. Plugs in with the included microUSB charging cable, detects instantly, bam.
Dolphin will detect any controller connected to the computer. If you have a wireless controller you need this.
Get yourself a receiver and plug it into the micro USB port with an adapter.
I don't know anything about the S2 or moonshine, but this is the setup that worked right out of the box with the Shield K1. Good luck!
Nope, you'll need one of these. They're plug and play though so its really easy. https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
The XBox 360 PC Wireless Receiver is cheap. If you're coming across controllers in your travels, it would be worth your while to invest in one.
Windows has built game controller testing functions that should be able to verify full functionality of the controllers.
I picked up a cheap T-8 security screwdriver for opening up the shell to clean them and occasionally replace thumbsticks. I come across truly NASTY controllers sometimes, but as long as all the buttons and sticks work it's just a quick dunk in the sink with the dishes to clean them up.
Sold several dozen so far, no complaints or returns!
Get an official microsoft adapter or get an aftermarket one that pretty much does the same thing.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
It's nice to see two comments to this already and neither are flaming you for using a controller on PC. Maybe the war is over. I got a [gold chrome Xbox 360 controller] (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Controller-Gold-Chrome/dp/B00EFRNG0A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416105134&sr=8-1&keywords=gold+chrome+xbox+360+controller&pebp=1416105135571) on sale last year and have been using it for all of my controller-worthy games. The only drawback is that you need a [wireless receiver] (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2), but other than that, it's perfect.
XB1 controllers don't use Bluetooth, and as of now there are no USB wireless receivers for PC that support XB1 controllers.
I use this with an XBox 360 controller to play Dark Souls (and most of my steam library), and it works great.
Do you have a dongle like this one? You can't connect 360 controllers otherwise.
>Do they both work the moment they're plugged in?
The drivers are automatically installed once you plug them in, no 3rd party software is needed.
>Also, do they have wired versions of the controllers?
Xbox 360, yes. Xbox One, I don't believe so. The Xbox One controller has a micro USB port that works when plugged into a PC.
The Xbox 360 wireless controller doesn't work when plugged in to a PC, so if you go with an Xbox 360 controller, either grab a wired one or buy this with the wireless one.
Here is the first one I bought. It's first party, made my Microsoft, but it broke after a few months. Here is the one I currently have and use. The white one has lasted over a year, if not longer, while the black one just stopped working after a few months. It's also a bit cheaper than the Microsoft one.
Well, some games support it natively, and that is best. But for other games, XPadder works well for me to map controller buttons to keyboard keys/mouse buttons.
But I rarely have to use XPadder. Although I actually use it when I watch TV shows on my computer while I lay in my bed across the room. I use the 360 controller as a remote control for VLC by mapping XPadder buttons to keyboard shortcut combinations :P
Most games I've used my 360 controller support it natively, such as Dirt2, Batman Arkham Asylum, Sonic Generations, Super Meat Boy, and Assassin's Creed 1 & 2.
But, if you have a wireless controller, you'll need to buy the 360 wireless receiver for PC. Even if you have the USB cable that is normally used to charge it, you will have to get the wireless dongle. The USB cable will not transmit the button signal data or whatever you call it, it will only charge. But the wired controllers work, through their USB cable without needing the receiver. Kinda strange, but understandable that they want to sell you a wireless receiver.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1332217919&sr=8-3

Then go to MS's site and download drivers for it, and it should work.
Go PC then, you can use your xbox 360 controllers on PC using this http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Not how it works. You need a wired controller or this.
PS3 controllers use USB to charge and connect with the PS3, so you can use that USB cable to connect to your PC, it's a standard USB to mini. You need third party software though, as Sony doesn't make them themselves.
Xbox controllers can be bought with a bundled bluetooth dongle, like this for Xbox one:
https://www.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/accessories/adapters/wireless-adapter-windows
Or this for Xbox 360:
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You can buy both an XBOX 360 controller bundled with a dongle, and an Xbox One controller bundled with a dongle, at it's pretty much plug & play, you only need to connect them.
I have two xbox 360 controllers and two dongles, allthough I've never owned an Xbox in my life. I have one computer allways connected to my PC, pretty much using it as a console, while I have one connected to my main gaming rig for driving in GTA, flying and other stuff that handles better with a controller.
I don't think there is any solution to use the PS3 and PS4 controllers wirelessly with PC though, but I'm not sure. I've tried using mine for my gaming rig, but it's a lot of hassle to get it to work properly.
You can buy the receiver separately, but Strijdhagen is right, the Wireless Windows Controller comes with the wireless receiver.
Get a Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for 29 buck in amazon, in my experience the x360 wireless controller is by far the best gamepad I've ever had.
I call bullshit: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
Just recently went through this a couple days ago... The charge and play kit doesn't actually transfer data, it "connects" so as to charge the controller. What you actually need to do is grab one of these:
Microsoft Certified Adapter
I went with this and saved 10 bucks:
Third Party Adapter
It "works" but you've gotta mess with it a bit in device manager to manually apply the driver. The process to do this can be found here:
Driver install step by step
This step by step is meant for windows 7, the windows 8 process wasn't very different, IIRC you'll scroll down and find Xbox 360 peripherals or something, can't miss it.
If you're not comfortable with that, spend the 20 bucks and grab the Microsoft certified adapter. I've only used it for about 2 hours but so far so good! Hope this helps you out.
only for games that are highly frame dependant, such as fighters like Street Fighter or Guilty Gear. For a game Like Dark Souls you'll be fine using wireless.
Apparently the price of these has dropped significantly from what I remeber
That should be exactly what you're looking for.
Wii U Gamepad?
Also: this or this
I bought it in a bundle. But I think it should be available. Here it is on Amazon. It's super awesome, when friends come over they only have to bring their wireless controllers :)
Don't put it between your WiFi antenna and the router. Just don't.
Is there an official Microsoft wireless adapter or just third party ones?
Edit: Found this one that seems pretty good, but it is still 3rd party. I'll probably end up going with it, though. $19 isn't a bad deal.
You could use a Wireless Xbox 360 Controller with a wired PC receiver, Xbox one controller with a PC adapter, Bluetooth for PS3/PS4 controllers and Wii Remotes (if that's your thing).
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Xbox wireless receiver for windows.
If you don't mind used, or like new, Swappa, or Ebay. I bought mine off Swappa, but it looks like most only ship inside the US, maybe check back some other time on Swappa. http://swappa.com/buy/nvidia-shield-tablet-wifi
A Wireless 360 controller works perfectly, you just need a wireless receiver that's made for PC, like this one:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2#
And an OTG cable: http://www.amazon.com/eForCity-Micro-USB-OTG-Adapter/dp/B005QX7KYU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1410988101&sr=8-1&keywords=otg+cable
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
2 such dongles w/a quick search... one is official the other not. Probably can find more or scour eBay as well. I think I got my official 360 wireless adapter for $10 shipped lurking auctions for a couple days if you're patient.
I use the official MS version and it works flawlessly.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1412002778&sr=8-6&keywords=360+wireless+pc

Look for any of the ASRock H97m-ITX/ac or the Z version if you're planning on overclocking. They seem to be the best balance of price vs brand and also have bluetooth as part of the wifi module.
If you're connection a wireless Xbox360 controller, you'll need to get the special adapter, as using a Play & Charge kit to connect it via USB won't work (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2).
And yes, XBox controllers will work on SOME games for Steam. Usually it will say if it has controller support.
Any run of the mill 360 adapter will work fine. This is the one I bought, however it was $15 when I bought it so I don't know why there was a price hike.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1309898321&sr=8-6
If you have multiple Xbox 360 controllers, you can pick up one of these bad boys, and you've got a great party game.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1310366590&sr=8-1
That's how you do it with a wireless controller. I'm pretty sure you can just plug a wired straight into a usb slot.
You can find them packaged at places like Amazon or BestBuy under Xbox Controller for Windows.
This is the controller + USB adapter

There are wired variations but the USB adapter lets you use 4 standard 360 controllers at the same time.
If you have a PS3 there are some 3rd party applications you can install that allows you to use that controller.
With this. The price is constantly going up (I don't think MS makes them anymore; mine was only $15 back in 2008), so grab one while they're still affordable.
You can also purchase a dongle here that will allow you to used a non-wired one.
With this dongle.
You can always use a usb cable but if you want wireless you will have to get this:
Xbox360 controller: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Xbox one controller: http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/en_US/pdp/Xbox-Wireless-Adapter-for-Windows/productID.325920900
I think you need one of these.
You need this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1320992288&sr=8-8
Of course it's wireless...
It's a bit expensive, but you can definitely set up a controller for couch playing, assuming your PC can be hooked up to your television.
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Controller for Windows
Since you said you have a PS3 I assume that means you don't already own a 360 controller, but if you do then you can buy this and save a ton of money.
Skyrim comes with native Xbox 360 controller support, as was explained in one of the demos. Todd Howard said that he was using a 360 controller, but that he was playing on PC.
This is definitely a worthwhile purchase. It also works well with the wireless headset, which is what I predominantly used it for.
Basically a wireless 360 or PS3 controller needs some sort of wireless receiver connected to your PC to work. The wired 360 ones are plug and play, however.
Your best bet is to suck it up and get a wired 360 controller as that and the wireless receiver are pretty close in price, and you would have an extra controller.
There are Wireless Adapters for 360 controllers that work. Something like: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
If you have an Xbox 360 controller laying around, you can get a receiver that works fine. My brother uses it and has no problems.
If you want wireless retro controllers, you could use these wireless SNES controllers with one of these SNES-to-USB adapters. Also, a regular Xbox 360 controller with one of these receivers would work (even though it says "for Windows," i believe there are good Linux drivers for Xbox 360 controllers). The controller connections will all be USB, with whatever USB adapters you want.
Edit: the SNES-to-USB eBay link I had posted went dead. Replaced it with a different one from Amazon.
You could always toss some money towards this. I've got a black one (it says Microsoft on it instead of XBOX 360 but is called the same thing) and it works great. And with this you can use all your wireless xbox controllers with it.
EDIT: Turns out that one I linked is a third party wireless dongle, but the reviewers say it works just like the first party one. One of my friends has this one and he doesn't have any trouble.
You can connect a wireless 360 controller to a PC with this receiver:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
non-mobile link
The plug and Play kit will not transfer any sort of data from the computer to the PC. Instead you will have to use this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372351634&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+receiver
This will allow you to use a wireless controller for gaming. You can also use a wired 360 controller.
That cable is just for charging. You need this wireless receiver.
This it?You could always buy a wired Xbox 360 controller.
*Edit, Nevermind, I read the reviews. You would think they would get rid of the "Microsoft" link under the title. Well it looks like your only alternative is getting a wired controller or a knock off, sorry mate. I can't find anything official, unless you want to go find one used.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Then just use wireless 360 controllers.
Another option is to use Dual Shock 3 or 4 with bluetooth.

Can confirm, the wireless 360 controller will not work on anything except a 360 without one of [these bois] (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1511220649&sr=8-1&keywords=360+dongle), and that's only for PC. The wired one, however, will work on the link and on PC.
Yeah, the wired ones are usually plug and play, but if it doesn't just plug and play on your computer drivers are available. For the wireless ones you have to buy an adapter as well.
if you live near a fry's

I use this but you can use a wired xbox 360 controller, or use wireless xbox 360 controllers with this dongle
Nope.

This, however, will.
This supports all the wireless gh guitars and xbox 360 controllers. There are cheaper knock offs you could buy too, search on ebay.
Though I suggest buying the wired xplorer guitar, lot of people think its the best GH guitar out there and its plug and play for pc.
He could get one of these and still use his wireless.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You can't just use the charging cord as it doesn't transfer data. It only transfers power. If you want to use the wireless one you'll need the wireless dongle like /u/Smack23j mentioned. Here is the amazon page for it, its only about 18$ and it will work fine.
This
You can, though.
IIRC, if your computer has bluetooth, you might be able to trick it into receiving '360 signals, too. [citation desperately needed]
Xbox controllers are indeed plug-and-play. Windows will recognize them and auto-download the drivers.
However, to play wirelessly you'll still need a wireless USB adapter like so: http://amzn.com/B000HZFCT2
tl;dr this causes all controllers to sometimes lose directional movement in games (can't navigate menus, move, etc.), but still functions normally in Ouya menus.
Yeah! It is awesome
Here is the link to buy one if you want
I had to manually install the drivers, but there are YouTube videos for that
No one here knows how easy using a wireless xbox 360 controller for a pc is??? You don't need to go with a wired controller.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=redir_mdp_mobile
Close to 100% of multi plat games support controllers for pc. Just look at your favorite games on steam's website and it will tell you.
There are a few exceptions...mass effect being one. No clue why they didn't allow a controller for Pc (though there are mods that let you use one)
I ordered one from amazon for $12 and it was a Microsoft branded one
Here is the link. It looks like the price went up
The graphics are so much better (i5-3570k and GTX 560ti). I moved my Turtle Beach headset to my computer and use that exclusively for audio when playing. I went back to play with friends on Xbox and at first I was so appreciative of my couch and 46" TV. . .then I noticed the mediocre (used to think it was hot shit) graphics and clunky play style with a controller. Set the sensitivity to high for run-n-gun then you can't snipe for shit as your reticle is all over the place. Turn it down for sniping and you can't turn for shit in close combat.
TL;DR: I switched to PC when I built a new rig after 1000+ hours on Xbox and I won't go back. Gonna sell my BF3 and BC:2 copies for Xbox and never look back.
If you try this it works pretty well, connects wireless 360 controllers to pc. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2
I use my wireless 360 controller with this and it works great. It's not an official microsoft product, but I have had no problems besides needing to restart occasionally to make them talk to each other.
You'll need to install these drivers and you'll be good to go!
Just edit your post and take them out, like so:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2
Since the 360 controller uses proprietary wireless, you need to buy this dongle for your computer.
They are all 100% compatible. Source: I have one and a wired controller, and they work instantly with no 3rd party drivers. Gf and I play castle crashers and mortal Kombat with no issues. Windows 8 pro, 64 bit. Works on my 8.1 preview Ultrabook too.
Here is an Amazon link to make it easier on you: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2
I got mine from Amazon, works fine: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i02?ie=UTF8&psc=1
$20 shipped if you have Prime, and well-reviewed too.
This is the one I bought. There are some people saying they didn't get a microsoft one, but mine was genuine (or a convincing fake that works perfectly).
Purchased this in 2014 and still works great, although it was only $15 when I purchased it.

Don't know about a Bluetooth dongle that would work. You can also use a USB cable to use your ps4 controller on pc
Edit: fixed links
Hey what's up, I didn't forget you!
Just picked up the package today, and it works great. Plugged it in, drivers installed automatically and it worked with Witcher 2 with no issues.
It was black, and came exactly like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/customer-media/product-gallery/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_ciu_pdp_images_0?ie=UTF8&index=0&isremote=0
Would definitely recommend it.
I use this wireless adapter. Its works great.

That’s the best wireless dongle for XBox controllers (including guitars), I use it, it works flawlessly
Brother. You need this. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2

Cant help you there. I have virtually no experience with emulators as downloading and executing roms you do not own is technically illegal its a practice I have avoided.
I do however highly reccomend picking up http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I purchased one a little over a week ago, its inexpensive and has worked flawlessly.
If you have a 360 controller: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Hooks up to four wireless controllers and you don't need to install any drivers. You'll be able to play at 4K too!
Let FatNigger69 said, wait a day or two to see the reviews on Steam. Hopefully there are no problems but their shouldn't be. It's been delayed so maybe their working on bug fixes.
I have one and it works great, works on both my PC and hackintosh: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
False. Just buy one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1417752567&sr=1-2&pi=AC_SY200_QL40
They work wirelessly, and are cheaper than that wired controller (if tou already have a wireless 360 controller).
I bought one of these and have a long HDMI cable.
So you can chill on your couch and PC game, console-style
I'm using a wireless 360 controller with this adapter:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=sxts1
And this driver:
http://tattiebogle.net/index.php/ProjectRoot/Xbox360Controller/OsxDriver#toc1
I've only used it to play Doom 2016 in Windows and Portal 2 on Mac, but it seems to work great!
Probably easier to just buy this. Enjoy!

I got an official MS one for like $16 from Amazon, works like a charm.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/
Can you get your controllers to work natively on Android? For example, you should download badlands and see if it will recognize all 4. If you can solve your problem still in the Android OS, then I think it will solve itself while using gamestream.
Last I heard the PS4 controller needs root to work natively and the Xbox controller may need a dongle like this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
Another option could be to connect the controllers to the PC (not the nvidia at all) and launch gamestream with the one nvidia controller. I know that I can use other peripherals that way. For example, if I launch gamestream from the nvidia and I am in steam big picture mode, if I move the mouse, it recognizes it. It might be the same for connected Xbox controllers.
Oh! Almost forgot, you need one of these
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/
Sorry, extra $20 I forgot.
I just bought this and it is working well. It is a microsoft brand adapter also. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Get an official Microsoft one.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2
Unfortunately, no. Unlike the PS3 and Wii controllers the Xbox 360 controller communicates via RF instead of Bluetooth.
You can find a PC receiver for wireless Xbox controllers here.
You can use that, and you can buy a wireless 360 controller adapter that was made for the PC, to allow the use of a wireless controller.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1370633872&sr=8-1&pi=SL75
To use an Xbox controller you either have to wire it in, or get a receiver.
If you already have an Xbox 360 controller: I've got one of these guys for my xbmc/gaming setup. It works with plug n' play (don't use the included cd to install the driver) on my Windows 7 setup, and it works with most of my newer games if I want to play with a controller (this is great if you want to play upstairs on your [presumably] bigger screen, and a couch instead of an office chair). Bonus: XBMC requires no additional setup to use with the controller and has some handy functions (volume control, right thumbstick), but the left thumbstick has no function (you use the d-pad to navigate).
I can't vouch for begin able to use it from your basement, but I know I can mess with my roommates while they're watching the media center from my room (directly above where the pc is located)
wired is plug and play, wireless controllers will need their own adapter.
xbox one options
xbox one receiver only and
xbox one controller and receiver - cheaper
xbox 360 options
wireless adapter for 360 and
theres no bundle option but here's a 360 wireless controller
the 360 you'll have to buy both the adapter and controller, but it's cheaper than the bundle with the xbox one. 360 controller is $30 and the wireless plug is $18 making it a few bucks cheaper.
Err, you will also need this if you want the controller to work.
Is this what you were referring to? :D
You'll need an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows in order to use any wireless Xbox 360 accessories (controllers, wireless microphone, wheel, etc.) on your PC.
Should be this one: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1347311425&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+360+receiver
You have to buy a wireless adapter like this. Works wonderfully and can connect 4 controllers. $16 isn't bad at all.
I have a PC with 2, Ceton InfiniTV 4 cards. This gives me digital cable on my PC (with HBO but now on demand) and it runs like a DVR. I use it with Win7 and Windows Media Center. This setup looks better than any cablebox/DVR I ever owned. The PC is also a TV server because other TVs have xBox360s hooked up to them and you get TV through Media Center Player (They call that Windows Media Extender)... no need to pay for extra cable boxes... you can record and watch recorded shows from any xBox as well.
I attacked a wireless xBox 360 controller thing this ... I use steam and play Windows games on my 120" projector using an xBox360 controller.
I do however use bluetooth mouse and keyboard to control Windows/Steam... it might be nice not to switch.
The point being, you can have all of this right now without special TVs. If you don't want a cable box and PC separately, you can make your on DVR using the card I mentioned.
Here's the official one I found on Amazon, only $15.
> Also, I believe that the wireless dongle allows multiple controllers to connect to it (I haven't verified this, though), so you can buy "regular" Xbox 360 wireless controllers for players 2-4.
I do this with my HTPC. I can play steam games using two regular wireless 360 controllers hooked up to this device: Wireless 360 adapter for PC
It works great and that little wirelss adapter has a fantastic range.
I've also been pleasantly suprised to see how good the controller support is in Steam games. Even games that I didn't think I could use a controller for (like Orcs Must Die) have very good controller implementation.
There's a Wireless Dongle. Less than $20. Here you go.

I personally have a wired controller (was cheaper) but THIS should work just fine. It can connect 4 controllers.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I just want to let you know that I Googled it
Thats a shame about the 360 dongle, I bought my quite a few years ago so I've never had troubles, but you can find it pretty easily on Amazon.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1426210524&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+360+dongle
Though for anyone looking to get one maybe wait a bit since, the xboxone wireless dongle is coming out soon, even though I prefer the 360 one.
That does suck, but it's still nice.
That was a shit link. There is a USB dongle that you plug in that allows you to connect it just like to an Potato360. Here.
Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_HDdevb1W0FAB4
Well yea, 400 pounds is about $600 about twice the cost of an xbox one on sale. Also I am a computer programmer. It would not have to be coded twice. It actually wouldn't be much work at all.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
My friend got one of these last night. It felt like I was playing on a console with better graphics. That's what inspired me to write this.
Have a sloth gif.
As for the item, this adapter would be very helpful.
$40 for the wireless dongle? I paid $30 for one at Gamestop when they first came out. They're on amazon for $20 right now.
You could build or buy a media pc, hook it up to your tv with a wireless keyboard, wireless mouse and a wireless xbox controller with the usb pc dongle thingy and do the same thing. The possibilities are almost endless when it comes to PC's.
This is the official microsoft adapter, it's far better than the one linked by SL61.
It will let you connect up to 4 controllers to it and will work with your old xbox 360 controllers if you still have them.
As others have suggested you can inquire and learn to build your own PC for relatively cheap over at /r/buildapc. You might want to make a post over at /r/buildapcforme with your budget and your needs.
If you don't want to deal with the hassle of building a PC and don't mind spending a bit of extra money you can use a service like CyberPowerPC.com where you can customize a PC build, place the order, they'll build the computer and send it your way. There are probably local services like this in your area (check craigslist). However, these options are more expensive than just building it yourself.
Finally, I suggest you consider building an HTPC (HT = Home Theater) with gaming in mind, especially if you have an extensive movie/tv/music library. If you're interested in that as well, you should check out XBMC.
this is the one from microsoft
It will work, but it's a waste of money if you already have a wireless controller.
Buy one of these and use the instructions in the first review to get it to work. It's what I use and it works perfectly. It never has any problems connecting to the controller at all. If you want the official one, you can buy this one. Make sure that if you buy the original it says Microsoft on the back of it. If it doesn't, it's a knockoff.
I'm pretty sure its any. There is also a dongle for wireless ones to connect but I've never used those so I don't know how well they work. Since they are official Microsoft products I assume they are fine. One of those dongles will also save you about $20 if you already have wireless controllers. Did I mention the word dongle?
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1251002299&sr=8-1
Yeah, that was hard.
Ones cheaper than this, by any chance?
Respective to your first statement, not true. The Xbox 360 controller had a wireless receiver for PC Problem from their is switching paired devices on the controller without getting up. This can be solved by CEC through HDMI. Check out my comment to GhostofAce
If you have a corded 360 controller just plug it in, drivers are installed automatically. For wireless controllers, you need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Other than that, its plug and play.
I use an xbox controller and t one staged used a ps3 controller.for an xbox controller get an adapter like this
For a ps3 controller the set-up is a little bit harder but try doing a little google search. Welcome to pc gaming :D
Get one of these.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
The 360 wireless adapter made by Microsoft is $20. A brand new 360 wired controller is $25. Maybe $5 is a lot of money to you, but for $5 more you can have another controller that will work with your PC and your XBOX.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Microsoft sells a USB adapter for wireless controllers
Bought one of these a few months back. Super awesome deal if you're into PC gaming, but not ready to put up the controller.
You either need one of these and then use your wireless controllers or get an actual wired controller. Xbox controllers are natively supported by Windows and shouldn't require any extra setup whatsoever as long as the game you're trying to play supports controllers.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_cmu_pg__header
Here's the real deal receiver that I bought a while back for my PC. Works great, and they include a driver CD.
If it uses wireless 360 tech, http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I like to split the job of Home Theater PC & Media Storage PC into two discrete systems.
This allows you to hide your noisy spinning disks somewhere out of sight, and keep a slim, quiet gaming-capable PC in your living room.
With a $2k budget, you have more than enough to do this from scratch and get a really, really nice system out of it.
Here's what I'd do.

The actual 360 wireless mic and this magical little device: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2 Been using it for more than a year now, and it works fantastically.
No, the GH live receiver only works with that guitar. If you want to use any other wireless Xbox guitar on PC, you're going to need this.
Bought one for a tenner and love it, saves cash and works great.

You're gunna have to download drivers for it, but all in all a simple set up.
Right, this thing
>If you don't already have a gamepad, I suggest getting a cheap wired Xbox360 controller, even if you don't play DS. For some games, it just makes sense to use a gamepad over KB+M.
Or if you already have a 360 with wireless controllers, this thing is pretty cool. Works flawlessly, you pair the controller to your computer exactly like you do to your console.
And I agree with you. I was a big keyboard+mouse purist until I tried the controller with Darksiders. Holy hell it was so much better to control and play.
They should both work, the one on the left is a World Tour guitar (WT), looks like its a 360 one. So you need a controller adapter.
Any wireless guitar should come with a dongle, if they don't have it included don't bother. The only exception to this rule is 6frets and Xbox360 guitars, 6frets need the xbox specific adapter, and a 360 gamepad dongle works with the 360 guitars.
If it's wireless you need this to connect it. There are other cheaper third party receivers but I can't vouch for their quality.
I use a wireless Xbox 360 wireless Controller with my PC. You need one of these.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/
An Xbox One wireless controller connects through bluetooth.
I'm guessing they're wireless? If so, do you have the USB Wireless Adapter?
I'm pretty sure this is the driver I use.
There's one on amazon for $25, pretty sure that is a normal price. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I believe this works with the XBox One controller, but not the 360 controller. You need to get the 360 Wireless adapter to hook up wireless controllers.
edit: This one: http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Absolutely.
For your controller needs, if you want to use a DualShock4, DS3, Wii U Pro Controller or WiiMote, all you need is a mini Bluetooth dongle and a driver such as DS4Windows (google "[controller] driver windows"). With the proper driver they should be supported under most games, but they might require a button mapping tool to work with some stuff (we can help you with that).
If you want to go the easy route and have a controller supported by most games with no driver configuration as soon as you plug it in, an Xbone controller is your choice. However, it will require a special M$ dongle to work wirelessly, and be warned that this dongle only works under Windows 10. Alternately, if you can live with some inferior design features, you can get a 360 controller (which still works with nearly all controller games) and its corresponding dongle, which has the added benefit of working with all Windows's back to XP. However, be aware that both of these controllers require AA batteries rather than the rechargeable packs found in DualShock/Nintendo. You can buy a rechargeable pack for Xbox controllers but it obviously costs extra.
All of the aforementioned controllers will also work over USB with any operating system.
Now to the second part of your question. I assume that you mean you want to play on your TV–this can be accomplished one of two ways and is easy to setup. The first and most obvious way is to simply keep your PC in your entertainment center and hook it to your TV over HDMI, in much the same way that you would your PS4. Steam's Big Picture mode tries to emulate the homescreen of a console to make controller navigation easier, and does a pretty good job of it. Coming from the PS4 interface I'm sure you'll feel right at home–but you do still need a KB+mouse to get in Big Picture from a cold PC startup. This shouldn't be an issue as there are many cheap wireless keyboards with inbuilt trackpads on offer.
The second way is to use a Steam Link. This is a very handy little set-top box that will stream video input over the internet from a PC in the house–if you've ever heard of the PlayStation TV, this is similar. In order to use the Link you must have fast (at least 10mbps; check using speedtest.net) Ethernet on both ends (your PC and the Link) and a controller that connects over USB (either thru a USB cable or a USB wireless receiver. The Xbox receivers mentioned in a previous paragraph currently don't work with the Link but Valve says they are looking into it). It's very simple to setup–hook the Link to internet, plug in your controller and HDMI cable for TV connection, and pair it with your PC. Then you'll have total access to all your controller-supported PC games from the couch, with no loss of graphics.
Also, as a PC gamer, I have a word for you–there are some games that do play better with KB+M, especially shooters. Trust me, once you try something like Call of Duty with a mouse, you will never be able to go back to aiming with controller sticks. If you want this benefit but still find KB+M uncomfortable, there is the Steam Controller which features a more accurate trackpad in place of the right stick, and will work with most of the games that an Xbox controller works with.
One final word. If you are actually, legitimately serious about getting into PC gaming–please for the LOVE OF GOD do not buy a pre-built one. BUILD. YOUR. OWN. Seriously, if you are looking to surpass consoles and get value for money, I CANNOT stress this enough. Although it may seem daunting at first it's really little more than high-tech LEGOs–/r/BuildaPCforMe will furnish you with a parts list so you don't have to bother with that, and then the build will take two hours tops (even if you're inexperienced). There are tons of great videos on YouTube that will show you how–this is my personal fave, although I do advise you not to use any of those parts since that vid is considerably old.
If you have any questions feel free to reply to this and I can help you out.

I have the regular Xbox 360 controller.
OP said a lil lower that he has a wireless controller, so he will need the reciever Amazon Link to get that to work on his pc
Wireless 360 controller with this
Amazon has the dongle separately if you already own a wireless 360 controller.
Link
Not true.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
If it's a wireless controller you would need something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
If it's a wired unit and you're running Win 7, you can just plug it in and it will be recognized like any other game controller.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Get this, problem solved. 4 xbox controllers at once.
I got a XBOX 360 wireless controller for windows (and it came with the wireless PC adapter that sells separately for $25+ .. not complaining at all).
I have tried playing GTA V, Lego harry potter and Ori with it. Feels much better to play these games with controller.
Now what other games are there that are better played with controller instead of keyboard-mouse?
I want to have some games for me and my wife to play (she was a non-gamer until she married me). She will only play non violent games (for now). So HP and Ori have done a good job but need more. Thanks.
Edit: To clarify, not looking for 2 player games specifically, but they are welcome as well.
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Works like a charm and I can wirelessly connect 4 controllers at a time.
You need the USB wireless dongle. You can get generic ones on ebay for much cheaper, around $5.
If you do get a generic one, you manually have to load the correct driver onto it for it to work.
Ideally, you want a wired xbox 360 controller. However, they don't manufacture those anymore. So, you can either get a used wired one, or get a wireless 360 controller and this from amazon.
Both would work.
You can find a third party one on Amazon for about ten dollars located here. Despite the advertisements, it's NOT by Microsoft though, and it's a rip off brand (although it still works), although user reviews state that it works fine for the most part, albeit with a few issues.
Anytime. :)
Since you have wireless controllers, you could pick up one of these to connect them to your PC. I've actually owned two in the past, because the first one burned out. They have, or at least had (hopefully it's been fixed), a fuse problem that was susceptible to failing, and since I don't have people over that want to play games very often, I just use my wired controller now (lighter, less bulky, and saves batteries). But, when the wireless adapters are working, they work really well. You can connect up to 4 wireless controllers onto a single hub, just like on the 360 console. It was amazing for playing 4-p arcade games on the MAME emulator with my friends, etc.
Microsoft does sell the receivers separately. Looking back, I believe I did get it off of Amazon, not ebay, because I just remembered I've never used ebay before.
A wireless Xbox 360 controller is pretty much the same as with the PS3 WinDS3. You still need a receiver (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2) for the Xbox 360 controller on the PC.
It's discontinued. The only ones you will find are chinese knockoffs such as this and this.
Buy something like this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
There are cheaper receivers available but those are almost always cheap knock-off versions of the official receivers.
Microsoft stopped selling individual receivers and now force you to buy a receiver+controller bundle if you want to get an official receiver. Otherwise you can buy from a reseller like the one I linked who seem to buy the bundle, split it up, and sell the two pieces individually.
All of that annoying shit aside I'm really happy with my receiver. I had a bunch of friends over and I was able to connect four controllers at once which lets you do some fun stuff on various emulators.
Just need an adapter, they're about $20 and let you hook up up to 4 controllers. Alternately you can get a cable to use the controller wired, but those are usually about the same price anyway.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 - I have this and it works. The xbox 360 controller just shows up as a standard gaming controller. A lot of the new games auto detect that it is attached and auto re-map the controls. You can get these all over the place, including best buy, amazon, ebay, etc. Hope this helps.
Also, microsoft has software you need to install...
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933710
I wasn't referring to the charging wire kit, I was talking about the wireless receiver. And you can use it with mac with this Driver
Er, what? Third party? Mine is third party?
That setup will do nicely.
More than feasible. Using smb you can stream files over wifi. Couple of notes: n routers/adapters give the best range and speed, however they won't be able to stream 1080 video generally. If that is a necessity for you or a possibility down the road, check out the ethernet over power systems. They are the quickest and cleanest way to get that much data over your home network. Anything under 1080, however you are golden with wireless.
With the controller.that would work, you just need the driver from microsoft. You can also use this to keep them wireless http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1342743472&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+wireless+controller+adapter
In my setup, I bought a cheap bluetooth dongle and use wiimotes.
You're going to want to use xbmc. It handles streaming over your network. It will catalog all of the media available to you both locally and on your network. Once set up, it does this automatically. The biggest hassle with xbmc is making sure your files are named properly. On it's wiki it tells you the ways it wants. Fortunately if you bittorent/usenet, 99% of the files you get will be named in way xbmc likes. Once set up you can ditch your keyboard and mouse and control it with your phone or tablet. There's an app for that.
I've seen this floating around the interwebs, but I've never actually used it myself.
Somewhere in the $22.00 US range. I think I found mine for cheaper off ebay or some such nonsense, and you can use any wireless xbox 360 controller for it, just reconnecting it to the reciever to the computer (that is, changing from the xbox - i presume as i do not own an xbox)
You realize that's an NES adapter right?... That's not "real" or "authentic" at all. The actual adapter is https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/
EDIT: Your link description seems right but the product image is an 8bitdo NES adapter...
This lets you hook up 4 wireless 360 controllers to your pc. We play split screen Goldeneye, mariokart, and podracer all the time.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
you can get a wireless usb thingy.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1293497206&sr=8-3
or get a wired controller.
Yeah, looks the Amazon price for the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver is $33.99 USD.
Also, Xbox 360 Wired Controller is only $29.99 USD on Amazon.
I know this isn't what you wanted to hear, but it's relevant.
Wireless 360 controller with one of these bad boys.
You'd need one of these guys.
Don't get the play and charge kit. For whatever reason, it doesn't transfer any data through the usb cable; it just charges the controller.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1480711929&sr=1-1&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+receiver
you can also get the generic version of the adapter for less and it works the same.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I think that's what you're looking for.
I own both and I recommend the 360 dongle. I probably haven't invested enough time/knowledge into the Steam controller. But that's the thing, you have to spend some time learning to use it to really get the benefits of it.
I also have four 360 controllers, which all work with the dongle. I mainly use it for single player, but when friends are over it's so nice to quickly put on something with local multiplayer like Rocket League or Towerfall and it all works perfectly. If you have more than one 360 controller, big bonus there.
The official Microsoft one is about $20: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I use one of my old 360 controllers with this dongle. It works really well, not much input lag that I can pickup. I've gotten years of mileage out of the thing; however, my controller itself could probably use replacing since the thumbsticks tend to drift after so many years. The only issues with using the wireless dongle are powering the controller (AA batteries or a recharge pack), and playing games that require frame-perfect inputs (so pretty much just fighting games).
I can't say anything about the steam controller, though.
Ahh, you're probably right, I'll wait for the sale then!
I honestly got mine from so far back I wouldn't know the exact one, but this one looks pretty much like the best bet (the top reviewer for it even gives off similar setup instructions as I did! -- note that his wording slightly differs, as he's giving instructions for Win 7 whereas I'm doing it from a Win10 standpoint).
Happy to help!
You need the wireless adapter or it won't work op
My niece was 4 or 5 when she showed interest in games. First I played single player games and she watched, like Zelda where I translated everything to her because she did not read English at the time. After a while of playing single player games we tried Minecraft together because it is not a fast paced game, and we both had such a good time. Its a really great bonding experience. Anyways, it took some years and now she is as good, if not better than me in every game we play together. Its really fun to coop with her. I know for sure you will have as much fun as i am having pretty soon, or in a few years.
Here is some ideas I would like to share with you:
If you play on pc I suggest you get yourself controllers as it is better for your brother to play on. I bought Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows and a couple of 360 controllers. One of the best things I ever bought actually. If you have PlayStation or Xbox One i am sure there are other solutions.
There is a bunch of steam games that we have played together that is super fun, if you want recommendations I can make a list of what we like the best, but I think the couch coop search option on steam is pretty good and there is always co-optimus. Though it is hard to find games for 5 year old children, remember that they grow fast and that if you harvest some games during xmas sale it might last a long time. Even if the game don't work for you both today, it will work later.
If you want to try minecraft then you should to get two accounts, get controllers and the controller mod Joypad Mod - USB Controller for Split Screen Open up two minecraft windows on your screen and use Windowed Borderless Gaming to move the window to another screen or to split the screen in half, which is what i do on my TV. Then just open to lan and play the game.
Also the Little Big Planet series is really good.
I have two xbox 360 wireless controllers, will this work?
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1481662284&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+receiver+for+windows
I use one of these Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_9havyb750MKTE once the drivers are installed and controller is synced, it works great.
He's using the wireless controller receiver. It works extremely well.
Get a Microsoft wired controller or Microsoft wireless controller and wireless gaming receiver.
I don't trust 3rd party controllers anymore, unless it's an arcade stick by MadCatz or Hori. Other than that, have you tried changing the control binds for each individual game to react to the controller?
Now change that to .ca
http://www.amazon.ca/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
$30 + $5 shipping. I don't think you've proved your point.
Just posted this a second ago
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
They work
You need one of these to use a wireless X360 controller with the PC, I have one and it works flawlessly.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Edit: Some game you need to make sure the controller is on before you start the game or it won't be recognized, mostly with older games.
I bought this one from amazon. It is the official Microsoft one:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=pd_sim_vg_1
Some of them are broken out from controller bundles, but they are still legit.
Just emulate them. This thing works brilliantly for using a controller with PJ64. We had some pretty epic mario kart tournaments in the atrium of the BPS building with those last year.
Official product: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/
Cheaper alternative: https://www.amazon.com/HDE-Wireless-Receiver-Controller-Computer/dp/B0096PLB9O/
Just to put you in the right direction.
You need the windows dongle if you got the console controller
They're on Amazon
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
For a wireless 360 controller, you'll need a wireless receiver like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/
Not sure. I use this one, which worked after I moved it to a different bank of USB connectors from my mouse and keyboard. This one did not work no matter what I tried.
Reviews seem fine though. Lots of negative ones, but given that there apparently is some trickiness with the drivers, it's not unreasonable to suspect that a lot of those people didn't install it properly.
If you already have the controller you just need one of [these](
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_5?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1450888647&sr=1-5&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+adapter)
Can I connect my Nvidia Shield controller (2015 version)

to laptop (DELL XPS 15) via Microsoft receiver

Along with connecting 3 Xbox 360 controllers to the same receiver at the same time. Any help would be, well, helpful
Thank you!
If you do go for a new wireless one try to go for a world tour guitar, if not, then a les Paul or gh5 possibly. Keep in mind if you get a wireless guitar you need an adapter, Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_RvEJzb7RGRJ3R
Pretty sure Xbox controllers don't use Bluetooth. Something about how they need more bandwidth for reliable input... It's a proprietary technology and you need a specific wireless adapter for it.
Edit: Or this receiver for 360 controllers.
I know for sure that there are dongles that allow you to connect wireless 360 controllers (regular, not the guitar) to a PC. I have never owned anything X-Box related so I can't say if it would work with the guitar controller or not, but I assume it would. I think the dongle supported up to 4 controllers at a time. There wasn't any discernible difference in response time between the dongle+PC setup vs. the X-Box.
Source: Friend had one of them when we lived on the same dorm floor in college.
This looks like what he had. At $30 I'm not sure how cost effective it is, but it might open up some options on new guitars.
the 360 controllers don't use bluetooth, they use some other form of IR. The 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows you can plug in via USB and pair all your controllers with that. https://www.reddit.com/r/nvidia/comments/6v9z6y/xbox_360_wireless_controller_nvidia_shield/
this is what you need: https://smile.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I'm going to save someone some grief here and point out that the "specific adapter for 360 controllers to allow them to talk via USB" is the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows. This will let you connect up to 4 wireless Xbox 360 controllers. It's only officially supported on Windows, but you can use it on Mac and Linux as well.
DO NOT BUY the poorly named Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit. As much as it seems like it should work, it DOES NOT allow you to use wireless controllers over USB. The cable only sends power, no data.
https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2&ved=2ahUKEwi69JW91qLlAhVQLKwKHRXSBfkQFjAAegQIARAB&usg=AOvVaw1BrCQGsYLTjVEb8s5NDDDV
One of these
you need the wireless receiver but beware of fakes, though some don't have issue with them
If you have a wired controller, you can just plug 'er in. Wireless requires one of these little adapters to sync.
If you do some research worthy of being in the master race, you'll find that you can get a wireless dongle that enables you to link up to 4 wireless 360 controllers (any, not just "made for windows" marketed gibberish). The one I use cost like $15, and I kept 2 controllers when I sold my peasantbox two years ago.
Link: this or that.
Mine looks a lot like the second one; but it was direct from China when I got it. Works flawlessly.
I had the same problem with the F510. The spot where the cable enters the controller pinches the cable a bit and after the cable wiggles around for long enough it will short it out. I went and bought one of these to replace the F510 with an Xbox controller I already had and that works better than the F510 ever did.
Hey op, I think the main thing abut 360 controllers is that you need the little usb receiver that plugs into your computer.
Here is a link for what it looks like: Amazon link
Would this be my only option then?
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Buy one of these and show it to him. The reviews seem to be unanimous in that if you spend the time to set it up, it works. And is an offbrand, not my Micro$oft.
Or just buy a wired controller
Hey! thanks for responding. Here are all the parts in my computer and the device. They don't look any different to me and there was no smell of smoke when the sparks went off.
Video Card
Motherboard
Power Supply
Hard Drive
Processor
Memory
The evil device
Motherboard and power supply
Also tried turing it on again today and the fan on my graphics card starts spinning then stops after just a second. And none of those silver cylinders on the motherboard are black.
Bit late but if you go 360 controller route us this I have that type of receiver. The ps3 controller I use wired (haven't gotten a compatable usb bluetooth yet) but people recommend motioninjoy which is terrible SCP is really good and after install should start on pc start up without needing to be opened again, plus it maps the ps3 buttons to the proper placement of the 360 buttons (i.e. left trigger = L2 B = O) and if you use a program like xpadder to map custom 360 controls it works with scp.
I see the logitech one below, but I'll give you another option. I got one of these (although mine is black), and it's worked perfectly and I've had no issues. Search around with those keywords and I'm sure you can find one on sale for <$15.
Edit: To be specific, I got the genuine one, which has the word Microsoft across the top, not Xbox 360. The model # is 1086 if that helps.
You're using a wired xbox controller right? And by wired i dont mean a wireless controller with the play and charge kit. If you have a wireless controller you need to purchase the wireless receiver for windows. The play and charge kit does not send signals through the usb only provides power for the controller.
After that you plug the wired controller or wireless adapter in and you'll be fine. (probably)
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
They sell xbox 360 wireless recievers for computers, generally around 15-20 bucks.

http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=pd_sim_vg_6Just get this. It's 12 bucks and you probably already have an xbox controller.edit: Amazon lied to me.
The wireless controllers don't work over USB.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Dangit! It appears that you are correct.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2#Ask
No, which is why I still recommend the 360 controller as you can use it with this. If wireless is not important to you, you can definitely go for the Xbox One controller.
yeah, you will just need a wireless adapter for your particular choice of wireless controller. Something like THIS is what you might use for an xbox 360 controller, for example. Just use google and you will find adapters in no time, but you can't use the keyboard/mouse wireless adapter for controllers.
I used to have a USB receiver that I purchased from Microsoft that allowed me to connect my wireless 360 controller to my PC. The USB device was detected as a game controller.
Edit: it was something like this http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I'm surprised that no one has mentioned Guacamelee! Gold Edition. It's an excellent luchador-themed Metroidvania game that's super fun solo or duo. It's best played with a controller/gamepad, so you will want either a wired controller or a wireless receiver so you can use your 360 controllers.
While I do have an Xbox One, as a primarily PC gamer I just use an HDMI cable and one of these to game on my TV. I doubt I would ever use an streaming system since it would probably introduce latency and quality loss through whatever compression needs to be done.
How would it interface with your PC?
Edit: Oh this.
this is what you need for the wireless controller: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I'm pretty sure i ordered this one - http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 - get one of these, since PC has no built in wireless reciever.
Here is the link to the amazon site.

This is the one I bought:
Amazon Link
It's the official one. Never had a single problem with it. I mix and match between wired and wireless 360 controllers. Even mixed and matched between some 'wired' XB1 controllers and this without any issue.
You need to buy the dongle for your Pc https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
These days, you're going to have to go to Amazon most likely. Unless something like EB Games or Best Buy have some in their clearance sections, but the Xbox 360 was discontinued nearly 5 years ago.
There's cheap ones on Amazon for ~$20, but the official Microsoft one is a bit pricey at $45.
Is it just the controller?
I get by with one of these.
I need to buy some replacement analog sticks though. My 360 controller's are pretty bad.
This may work, but when we had one all we ever tried on it was controllers:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
But unless Windows has a driver ready to configure it like they do the controllers, I wouldn't bank on it.
You'd be better off using a USB mic on the PC or using an actual wireless mic like you'd use for PA/performances passed through the 1/8"port.
360 controller you say? If it is wireless that cable will not allow you to use it on PC, only charge it.
You'll need to pick up a Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows
You can get cheaper non official ones but I've had issues with quality.
This is a thing
You need something like this to allow for your PC to connect with a wireless 360 controller. You can buy off-brand, but they might break (although, I've had two Microsoft ones break on me). Might be worthwhile to just buy a corded 360 controller, no wireless adapters to mess with, just plug and play.
FPS doesn't really that much. The FPS you actually see is tied to your refresh rate; if your monitor is 60hz, 60 FPS is what you're going to get. Same with 120hz or 144hz, that's how much you'll be utilizing. In FPS games, higher refresh rates do matter as high action scenes are depicted more clearly and fluid versus 60hz.
Came here to say this. You need to buy an wireless receiver for those. They are pretty cheap nowadays. amazon link
For the wireless 360 controller, you have to have an adapter to communicate with the controller. The microsoft branded plug-n-play cord that a controller comes with is not a data cable. It only provides power to the controller. You need either one of these or a generic one for Windows 7. However, they are not compatible with Windows 8 according to their own documentation.
As far as I know, a wired XBox 360 controller should work on Windows 8. The cheapest way to get one would be through a used game accessories store like a GameStop. Plus if you can't get it to work you can return it within a week or so. Even the generic ones should work. For Windows 7 you have to down some drivers from Microsoft to get it to work, but otherwise its really simple.
If you wait until November, Microsoft is releasing one of these: Xbox One Controller + Cable which is described as "Windows 7 and Windows 8-compatible controller" for $59.99 from them. It is a wireless controller, but you have to plug it in to get it to work on PC. It will still double a s a wireless XBox One controller. If they make a wireless adapter for it later, then you will be able to use it for that also.
That does not work with anything other than the Guitar Hero Live guitars.

This is the receiver you need: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows-x/dp/B000HZFCT2
Yes there is:
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows-x/dp/B000HZFCT2
Xbox 360 wireless dongle - $17.
official Xbox 360 wireless controller - $27.
And usually someone is offering deals, like I recently got 2 white ones for $35. And everything is officially built and supported by MS and is all plug-n- play
You can buy a wireless thing that works for them. I don't know about the XB1 controllers, but for the 360 controllers I have this. There are similar products listed for the XB1 ones, but I don't own them and can't verify quality of function.
This + this
This would have worked, but the wired controller is a solid purchase. You won't have to worry about connection issues. $40 is a little overpriced, but that's not too bad. I wouldn't sweat it.
Get a wireless dongle. With that installed you can use wireless xbox 360 controllers just like if you were playing on a xbox 360.
Depending on what version of windows you are using, you might need to do a little work on the drivers. However, once you get it up and running, you'll never use any other kind of controller for PC gaming.
You need this device to link wireless xbox 360 controllers to your PC:
http://smile.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
It either needs to be a wired controller, or you need this http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Interesting. That has never once happened to me. Sounds like you might need a new dongle.
If it's a wireless controller, you will need a Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver. The play and charge kit only charges the batteries, it doesn't transfer any data between the controller and the PC.
Thank you for your comment. I do have wireless gamepad, but i also have wireless adapter This to be exact.
I tried to set gamepad keys on Nintendulator but it seems like it doesnt work with it. The main problem i have is that i cant find NES emulator to be compatible with my gamepad.
Im sorry i didnt mention about what emulator im looking for.
You might need one of these then.

There are some 3rd Party ones or the offical. Both of them works flawlessly, but i still prefer an wired one over an wireless.
I picked up the official Xbox wireless receiver here. Works flawlessly. No drivers needed.
I don't think the charging cable works. A wired controller would work, or you can get a wireless receiver like this: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2. That's how I use my 360 controller.
Here ya go.
The Xbox 360 wireless controller that we are using comes with its own receiver. It is a bundle to allow the controller to work with Windows.
The receiver is sold separately too. I did a quick search and found some saying it is new but it is weird kinda expensive for a single reciever wow
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I spend a lot of time on the guitar hero subreddits, i think there's only one bluetooth guitar and its rb5, ps4 edition only i think. the x360 that are wireless use the wireless receiver for xbox themselves. I've seen people turn ps3 guitars into arduino controllers, maybe something like that could work. clonehero would allow for button remapping so it seems possible
You can get a Microsoft dongle from Amazon
"Date First Available November 12, 2006"
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1483457268&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+pc+dongle
You can get an xbox one wireless adapter too.

You can also buy a controller/adapter bundle.
I went in to buy a wireless 360 controller receiver for the pc only to be told the product does not exist. What made it worse was that the manager was relaying through the clerk up front so she kept having to go back and forth.
He's right, that one is the knockoff. If it doesn't say Microsoft on it, it's a fake. This is the real one.
Here's a helpful comment on amazon in the reviews of the fake one by Mark Twain.
Copied if the link dies.
Buyer Beware!! This product is NOT by Microsoft as Advertised!!!
If you have already bought this item skip to `The work around' to get the device to work
My Story:
I purchased this item because my original Microsoft receiver stopped working after the manufacturer's warranty time of 90 days. The device simply was not working one morning. So I searched online for a replacement and thought I was getting the original Microsoft Xbox 360 receiver because it was advertised that way. Unfortunately the product did not work right off so I had to contact Microsoft gaming for support. Then after trial and error we discovered that Microsoft did not produce this rip off of their product.
So how can I prove this? Well first off the pic #2 and #3 are legit. but the 1st pic if the rip off. Microsoft NEVER prints the Words "Xbox 360" without first printing "Microsoft" to read "Microsoft Xbox 360." Behind the word Microsoft there will be an 'R' in a circle and behind the words Xbox 360 will be a small 'TM.' This product came with a receiver and packaging that looks VERY similar to the real one but it is not.
So that's the bad news, but there is good news too........
The good news is, that this product does still work. I have now had mine for way longer than the original Microsoft version, and it still works with everyday usage. (Originally ordered in Feb. 2010 and it is now July 2010)
However the installation was not as simple as the real one. They send the receiver with a driver disk that doesn't work at all with common Operating Systems or OS.
The work around:
Is to use your common driver by Microsoft already installed on your Windows or Vista Disk Drivers area and install the driver manually. Unfortunately this also means you have to reinstall the driver each time you unplug it.
Go to:
Start Menu and open Control panel
Then open
'Hardware and Sound' from control panel for Windows users
for vista users
select 'Additional options'
then from the left hand side open 'Hardware and Sound'.
Then open Device Manager for windows or Vista
Then click on the "Unknown Driver"
Then click on search for additional options and manually install the driver yourself
Then select the 'Microsoft Common Controller for Windows class'
Then it will give a list of drivers for you...... pick the one from Feb of 2007 and install that one.
Then you are good to go and able to play the games you want using your Xbox360 controller.
so do i buy this one https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ortz-Xbox-360-Wireless-Receiver-for-Windows-XP-VISTA-7-8-10-Black/523604985?wmlspartner=wlpa&selectedSellerId=4318&adid=22222222227135066223&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=244203333783&wl4=pla-400032044046&wl5=1022635&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla&wl10=115068251&wl11=online&wl12=523604985&wl13=&veh=sem or do i buy this one https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1519344661&sr=8-2&keywords=dongle+for+xbox+360
As for the wireless adapter, it's fairly cheap, about ten dollars. I have one and it's worked great so far.
Just buy one of these or a wired xbox 360 controller, download Project 64 and some roms and your good to go.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1333066517&sr=1-1-catcorr
Keep in mind that a wired one is better for your PC. You just need to plug it in and there you go. With a wireless Xbox 360 controller, you'll need to buy this thing too to make it work on your computer which is kinda lame.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_1ZOZAb16YPDG6
I believe the controller has to be wired. Works perfect.
I don't have this
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
so I can't test a wireless controller with it.
You could buy The 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows, and then use any wireless 360 gamepad with your PC. Only other option I know is the USB cable from the play and charge kit.
You can purchase a wireless receiver and connect it to your laptop:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
There is also a package with both a receiver and a controller, if you need an extra one:
http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Controller-Windows/dp/B004QRKWKQ/ref=pd_cp_e_1
This works great (I used it for quite a while), as many PC games are designed to work with 360 controllers, and you can have up to 4 connected to one PC. The downside is that it introduces a large cord and rock-sized receiver onto your laptop, making it less portable.
i use wireless xbox 360 controller to fly. Had to buy one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
(cross posted in /r/Surface)
I sized this model off the circuit board inside the Microsoft XBOX 360 Wireless Controller Adapter, but shrunk it pretty much as much as possible and got rid of the cable in favor of a clip-behind design. It fits perfectly on the Surface Pro 3 tablet.
I modeled this in Inventor and I'd be happy to send people the STLs or the inventor files. If you want to make one, you have to buy a USB plug from adafruit and a 360 wireless adapter, like this one. You will also need super glue and two tiny screws (I used size 2-64).
The build takes less than a cubic inch of material. Enjoy!
You can use a wireless 360 controller with the PC but you need the controller adapter for it: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2

If they are corded, then they'll just plug in and play, if they are wireless I believe you need an adapter:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Good point. Is it this? http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Any 360 wireless pad works (even if it came with your Xbox), but you need a special dongle for the PC. There used to be an official one, but it's hard to find these days and I believe is no longer in production. There are 3rd party ones available, however.
http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-Receiver-compatible-Controllers-Gaming-Platforms/dp/B0096PLB9O/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1404418032&sr=8-2&keywords=xbox+360+pc

I have the official one so I can't speak for these, but it seems like the second one (though more expensive) has better reviews. It might be worth the few extra bucks since I've heard of some of the third party ones fail randomly.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
I didn't change any settings or use GameTuner (Whatever that is), I just immediately launched the roms. MyBoy! looks to be a working emulator but it may not be optimized for all devices. Even if John GBA doesn't work, I still recommend trying as many emulators as you can. Almost all of them are completely different, even if they do the same thing.
It's my pleasure to help. Especially because you're a fellow Mother enthusiast!
If it's a wired 360 controller, you just plug it into a USB port and hey, presto, you're good to go.
For the wireless kind HERE. It'll cost you like $18USD and again, it's just plug-and-play. You can buy a controller that comes with that adapter for like $50USD.
If you mean a XBone controller, you need to use a cable as there's presently no wireless PC adapter for those (yet).
I recommend buying the official one. Here it is on Amazon and if you click on the third party sellers, you can find one for about $25. I have had mine for over a year under heavy use and it hasn't given me one problem.
> MS Windows wireless xbox 360 controller on Amazon
Link to a legit MS dongle?
As far as I can tell, MS doesn't sell them anymore, but Amazon sells unbranded and branded Microsoft/Xbox ones that are apparently fakes (and some better than others).
A friend of mine bought one and eventually the fuse burned out. It's $15 for another one, so he's not upset about his purchase even if it's not as high quality as the (unobtainable) original.
I use a wireless 360 controller with my PC. You just use the adapter they give you. I don't know why you didn't get one in the box with your controller. Buy one of these.
The one I linked to was the original Microsoft adapter. You can find cheaper (non-Microsoft) ones if you're tight on cash. AFAIK they work.

Sold off my desktop last year because I needed a mobile workstation/gaming setup. I no longer need one. Truth be told, I never needed one, but considering I never move it...no reason to hold on to it.
Total cost of the entire package new (links included to amazon and NewEgg below): $2401 + Shipping charges from NewEgg - I use Amazon Prime, so if I order from there most of the time so I don't pay shipping, but this exact model isn't sold anywhere by NewEgg.
I figure cut the price in half, get a screaming laptop, and a bunch of fantastic peripherals. This is an AMAZING machine, top notch. Just time for me to part ways.
I am willing to accept trades for a desktop, but it must be in mint condition (as my equipment all is), and it must be comparably spec'd.
Laptop Specs: ($1499 new)
Additional Items in Package:
Monitor: AOC 29 inch Ultrawide Monitor ($300+ New)
This thing is amazingly huge. IPS Panel, great for graphic/photo work, tons of screen space.
Headset: Astro A50 Wireless 7.1 Surround Sound headset ($299 new)
Keyboard: Logitech G710+ w/cherry MX Brown switches ($130 New)
Mouse: Logitech G700 Wireless Mouse ($99 New)
Gaming Controller: Xbox 360 w/wireless dongle ($49 for controller new - 25 for dongle new)
I'm pretty sure that you can buy a receiver like that one and it should work, if it's a wired controller then you should just be able to plug it in to any USB port.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 could try that.
yes, wired xbox 360 controller works great from first-hand experience. i believe you can also use a wireless controller with this dongle.
My wife and I use one copy of the game on a single PC (one display, no splitscreen) using two Xbox controllers. I just had to buy an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for my PC and use the two controllers we already owned for our Xbox 360 console. I don't know if or how multiple keyboards and mice would work for the game.
you need to buy the receiver.
I'd imagine if you aren't picky about the color or middleman, you could find one cheaper.
If you're running Windows 7 or Vista, they both have the Xbox 360 controller drivers built in. You can just plug a wired controller in and play. If you only have a wireless controller though, Microsoft makes a wireless adapter for PC to let you connect your Xbox 360 wireless controllers and wireless mics; here's an example of one from amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311541262&sr=8-1
....? http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2 says it's in stock and fulfilled by Amazon. I didn't look farther, though.
Though you could use this or something similar.

You need one of these even if you have a play and charge cable unfortunately.
Actually, you don't, microsoft sells an XBOX 360 wirless adapter thing for windows. that lets you connect up to 4 xbox wirless controllers and 4 xbox wireless headsets to your pc.
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=pd_cp_vg_0
Its pretty useful for those Controller enabled games in general, and other places where you want to use xbox equipment on pc
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
If wired works, wireless should.
Buy one of these, or one of these with one of these. Nothing beats an Xbox controller.
You mean this adapter? Looks like it's still being sold to me. What has that got to do with battery efficiency?
One should note that you can either buy a MS wired controller, or you will need to buy this to use a wireless controller.
I use the official Microsoft wireless adapter, although I didn't pay $20 for it. A wired controller will work just fine as an alternative.
And I use the Project X Mod which allows for Japanese voice acting as well as changing the button prompts.
Yeah sorry on mobile felt lazy
Heres the 1st party, and I lied its $18.99, http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Off brand for $8.99

Alternatively, it looks like you can get the receiver from Amazon.
How to take a screenshot of Skyrim with the 360 controller
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows-Pc/dp/B000HZFCT2
Just buy this and you'll be fine! Good luck!
You can still play with the controller in the PC Version, you just have to get the XBOX Wireless controller connection kit. The game recognizes the controller automatically and adjusts the UI accordingly.
I use it this way on my iMac (Bootcamp) and it works perfectly.
If you have wireless ones (Xbox 360 controllers) you can nab one of these guys from Amazon for around $20. Click
I know it's not free, but maybe you could scrounge a few bucks here and there until you can get it.
I have one and I love it.
It's ok, I found a use for your old xbox controllers. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You can buy wireless too, this works perfectly:
[receiver] (http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370611781&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+receiver)
I have the setup you're looking for. Of course it's still a work in progress with plenty of bugs but it's still very much usable. Infact, I use it everyday.
I use Steam Big Picture and control it along with everything else I access with my 360 controllers. I have "Non-Steam" shortcuts setup for Chrome, Netflix, Crackle, Hulu, Plex, XBMC, Emulators and some other games. I use Joy2Key to bind mouse movements, mouse clicks, etc. I use a 3rd party on screen keyboard (I'm sorry I'm at work and I forget which one I use)that I use to input searches into netflix, chrome, etc.
Like I said before. It works great it just needs some tweaks that I'll hopefully get around to soon enough. I'm currently working, trying to find a new job, fixing up my house to sell and looking for a new house to buy but I still love my little project and I work on tweaking things any chance I get.
If you have any questions let me know. I'd be more than happy to help!
Wired 360 controllers work with many games, but not all. To use the wireless ones you need an adapter.
Buy this I'm sure there will be one for the new xbox
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_5?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1372432090&sr=1-5&keywords=xbox+360+wireless+adapter
As far as the keyboard is concerned, I don't know, but I would definitely pick one of up these and a wireless xbox 360 controller to use with Steam's big picture mode.
You mentioned you have a wireless 360 controller. Instead of buying a wired one you might want to try one of these. I have a Nexus 7 and a wired 360 controller and it works great. I've read that those wireless dongles work with the N7 as well, so it would probably work with your tablet.
Yes. Seen this?
>1: I don't want to be stuck having to play from a pc monitor. Is it possible to hook it up to my TV so I can switch back and forth between the two?
Yes, however I find switching between the two a bit of a hassle if you have to move your tower. I bet that if you put a little forethought into your setup it would be easier though.
>2: I know not all of the consoles games I'm interested in is available for purchase/download. Are there any emulators for ps3/360 as of now?
I remember hearing about a 360 emulator that was almost playable recently.
>3: Is it difficult using a keyboard and mouse for gaming?
I find it difficult to use a controller for most games.
>4: Is it possible to play games with my ps3 controller or some other wireless controller?
Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows
for the ps3 I think you can use the charging cable or a bluetooth adapter.
>5: Is it better to buy a pc or build one?
Build, you will feel more accomplished and save yourself a few hundred dollars.

"Note A standard Xbox 360 wireless controller can be connected to a Windows PC, but you must have an Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver to play games, even if you have an Xbox 360 Play & Charge Kit."
Taken straight off of Xbox's support page.
I used to use one of these https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You might be able to find it cheaper somewhere else that's just the first one I found when googling.
With the Xbox One S controller (white) you can use either USB or Bluetooth at your convenience with the PC.
The USB Xbox 360 controller works out of the box with PC.
The Wireless Xbox 360 controller requires using this adaptor:

No prob man. I'm not 100% certain about wireless guitars since mine's wired, but I think any Bluetooth dongle will work. If you want to play it safe, the 360 adapter will be your best bet.
You cannot plug a 360 controller directly to your PC. They did this on purpose but there is a way you can use it. You'll have to get the 360 wireless receiver. I use mine as a 2nd player controller and works really well.
I got the Microsoft brand but they do sell the off-brands for cheaper.
This might help: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
With 360 controllers, you'll need the wireless adapter. Make sure that it's the official Microsoft adapter or else it might not work.

To connect your wireless Xbox 360 controller to your PC, you need both of these:
That's what I use and it works great.
I just realized how expensive it is now. It was $20 from Best Buy, I guess they stopped making it. Here it is for $11 on Ebay

Anyway, you mean like this one? No need to change driver though. Just need to pair the controller with the new receiver.
this bad boy
Yeah I was thinking of the 360 controller dongle. One of these: https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
Not what you need. Should be fine with regular Bluetooth dongle.
Edit: Seems the xbox one controller will also work with one of those dongles (still fine with normal bluetooth as far as I can tell).
With wiitars the certain adapter you basically have to use. Has the lowest latency from the inputs to the game, more inputs mean more notes, and because of clone hero's weird engine, more fc's.
And depending on if it's an xplorer or a wireless. If it's an xplorer you want the "breakaway cable. " If it's a wireless one Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_3PduDbX0XBBNC

No, a propriety receiver because Microsoft. See here on Amazon for the product.
Do you have it working for any other PC things?
Just a heads up in case you're not aware, the wireless 360 controllers require a special receiver to work properly on PC. Wired ones you can just plug into a USB port and go.
Looks like you can get them on Amazon for like $20.
the wired part of the wireless controller is only used to charge your battery pack. You'll need this dongle for it to work http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2

But wait, there's more.
It's a link to the Xbox 360 Wireless Gaming Receiver for Windows.
I switched from xbox to PC and it's so much better. You can transfer your saves by using a thumb drive and Modio. Plug in an xbox 360 dongle to your pc, and you wouldn't even know the difference... except for the whole mod thing.
you'll need one of these

I actually own my own home as well. I don't have a large PC in my living room.
You may want to do some research before you get upset at PC gamers suggesting to use PCs for your living room.
My PC is in my office. I have an intel NUC mounted behind my TV. I use an xbox wireless adapter so I can sit on my couch comfortably.
I use steam in home streaming to stream games from my PC into my living room.
I wired my home with ethernet.
My living room is probably even more clean than yours now. Only thing you can see is my wii U and TV. No clutter or boxes anywhere.
If that is too much work for you then look at mini ITX builds simular to the steam console.
With PC you get the freedom to set up your entertainment center however you like.
No, it's a wireless controller, and i'm using a supported adapter. It does work on both Windows and Linux, and my phone recognises it, but Android games don't
Wireless 360 controllers work too, but you need a special dongle to pull it off.
They also don't work as wired devices if the cord is plugged in, they only receive a charge from it.
But the wired ones work perfectly fine out of the box, and 360 controllers are more or less the de facto PC standard for game controllers.
Wired Controllers usually connect to the computer through the usb slot.
Wireless Controllers usually connect through Bluetooth, but some like the wireless version of the Xbox 360 controller require a receiver to connect and work with computers.
Most controllers that are made for PC are plug and play, meaning once you've plugged it in, it's ready to use for controller friendly games.
You can find out whether the game has controller support by checking it's store page on Steam, it will show on the bottom right of the page.
If the game isn't set-up for controller use, you usually set up custom controls for the controller using a program like JoyToKey.
The Xbox 360 Wired Controller is what I use, but there are better alternatives if you have the cash to spare.
I've done the same thing with my PC. The cable in the picture is ONLY for charging. You need the wireless adapter shown here:
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
You will more than likely need to manually install the driver for the controller. You can do that with the following guide:
http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-on-other-devices/windows/xbox-controller-for-windows-setup#353b610dc727430da459028e8d31acda
What I had to do on Windows 7 was "Install New Hardware", Find the device manually (Was under "Game Controllers?" > Microsoft > XBOX 360 Controller, etc.
Afterwards everything worked fine and I can happily play Super Meat Boy on my big screen.
If you'd rather go wireless, you can also get one of these and any Xbox360 guitar. It's probably more expensive if you don't already have a guitar laying around though.
I'm using a generic receiver and it does what it's supposed to do. Sometimes Windows 10 updates will decide to change the driver or mark it as an unrecognized device so I have to manually set the driver again. Other than that I've had no problems with it.
If I had to do it again I'd pay the extra couple bucks to get an official Microsoft one to avoid the hassle.
I'm planning on getting [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2). Kinda doubting if it'll work but I'm positive.
You can use any PC controller you want to play a game on your PC. The 360 controller included. The standard wireless 360 controller will require a USB Receiver($16, amazon) I'm assuming this is what you mean?
*edited for correctness
Not many reviews and not an official Microsoft product. Given the low cost it might be worth a try. Personally I would just spend the 20 dollars on the real one and not take a chance.
here's the legit one
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000HZFCT2/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00
And yes, that one is legitimately from Microsoft and doesn't require jumping through the Device Manager hoops that the knock offs do.
Short of a title being exclusive or badly ported no. I used to play certain games on my console because the controller was the better input device (Bastion, for example). Then I got one of these. Now I've picked up almost all of the games from my console on Steam (thank you sales!). The only game I truly miss is Bayonetta. My console wasn't fired up for months. Only reason I started it the other day was to test my new wireless setup for downstairs. I would use it as a media center but I'm not about to pay $20/3 months for access to the internet. I can get a Roku for under $100.
And we have found your problem.
> no wireless receiver on cpu
Because Microsoft love the money, they require you to have a wireless receiver for the xbox wireless controller.
Because plug-&-play would be too easy for the user.
Next time you have problems, describe your hardware and software situation better, instead of letting the community wild guessing your setup.
I get the joke but I actually do play Fallout 4 on my Ouya. Bought it on the cheap and it works amazingly to GameStream to the TV in my bedroom. Ouya even supports the USB XBOX 360 wireless reciever so I don't have to use the shit controller.
It really only works well with a wired connection but my house is wired for CAT5.
It's a pretty niche alternative to Steam Link but it works well for me!
I have the wireless silver one with rotatable D-pad and OEM battery pack. I also have a wireless receiver and a Play-n-Charge cable. I can do $60 plus shipping for all of it.
Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless Receiver for Windows https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_R42bzbHKB0R8W
Amazon - 3rd Party
eBay
Though eBay tends to be the Knock-Off ones (though they work just as well).
I got my as a combo pack off of Dell when they were selling them for 25 dollars (both controller and adapter). It's kind of hard to find the adapter at brick and mortar retailers.
not true, i have this --> http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2
If you have a xbox 360 controller and headset, you can use that. If you dont have those you can stop reading. But I always wanted to use that setup for my pc just like I use it for my xbox. I ordered this and then plugged my controller into this to keep the controller from turning off automatically. It's just a different way of going about things. I like it because it's a familiar headset (not another laying around) and it also charges my controller while I talk so I can always have a full battery for gaming. Good luck with your search!
I don't know of very many mods but when i switched to largely pc gaming i bought an xbox adapter and it's been great, works especially well with fallout since the developer supports controllers for the PC version. http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Wireless-Gaming-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2 I'd recommend checking it out.
If you had an xbox, you could get this adapter & use the wireless controllers.
ok so I'm an idiot & thought that was a wired controller & not the wireless one.
I have this. For the wireless controller.
If you own a gaming rig then Steam box is pointless IMO. Just get one of these and throw an HDMI cable from your pc to your TV and you're good to go. Big picture mode on steam works really well as an interface for controllers.
Get one of these, and you can use up to 4 360 controllers on your pc. It's natively supported.
https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B000HZFCT2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1474900777&sr=8-3&keywords=xbox+controller+dongle+pc
So, use your wireless XBOX controller on the PC. Or just play it on the 360, I don't care, but either way it's an option.
Microsoft only has wired controller support for the Xbox 360.
That being said, what you're looking for is Xbox Controller Driver or (XBCD). This would allow you to use any USB-compatible controllers and emulate the 360 controller. So instead of spending a lot of money on a wired 360 official controller, you can buy any sort of USB-compatible controller and use that. If you want to avoid all this trouble and don't mind the extra cost, you'll just want to buy a Wired 360 controller and download that software for your computer/laptop. Microsoft also has what is called a Microsoft® gaming receiver for Windows® that allows you to plugin wireless controllers into your PC. It is a discontinued product though, I think..but Amazon is showing them for less than $20 here.
Many people have problems installing the driver that comes with the XBCD 0.2.7 release. I just told Windows to allow the unsigned drivers and was good to go.
Download http://www.mediafire.com/?32e4566jjj5nzja - XBCD 0.2.7 Release
This is mainly just used for the drivers. Once this is installed there are 2 options for setting up the files needed for emulation
You can use the app version: x360ce.App-2.0.2.158.
>
>With this once extracted run the x360ce.exe and it should determine what controller you have and load a profile for you. If it does not you can setup which buttons you want to do what. Once saved this adds 2 more files to the folder than the exe is in :
>x360ce.ini
>xinput1_3.dll
>
>Some games use different .dll names - the 4 they could be are :
>xinput1_1.dll
>xinput1_2.dll
>xinput1_3.dll
>xinput9_1_0.dll
>
>What I did , instead of trial and error to see which one works, was make one of each and I just copy all 4 into the game directory along with the ini file. .
Or use the manual config version: x360ce_vibmod_3.1.4.1.
>With this you have to manual edit the x360ce.ini file(in notepad or any text editor) and add the VID & PID, which are easy to find.
>
>Control Panels > System > Device manager > Human Interface Device > find your controller listed> right click > properties > details > switch the drop down to hardware Ids. It will list both your VID & PID
>
>Enter those in the top of the x360ce.ini
>
>VID=0x045E #controller VID
>PID=0x0289 #controller PID
>
>
>Also change the FakeAPI=0 to FakeAPI=1 Save the file.
>
>Test the setup with the included XInputTest.exe to make sure all the buttons function correctly.
>
>Same here, you want 4 dll files :
>xinput1_1.dll
>xinput1_2.dll
>xinput1_3.dll
>xinput9_1_0.dll
>
>and the
>
>x360ce.ini
>
>and you will copy them to the the game install directory.
HEY LOOK AT MY COMMENT! I have four 360 wireless controllers for my living room PC. It's super easy, just buy this http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000HZFCT2
No setup needed, just plug it in and make sure you have games that support it (like 80% do) and have fun.
buy a contrller adapter for your pc, beware tho, if it is wireless and from amazon, you have to manually install the drivers (the receiver isnt from microsoft, but it indeed works, i have it)
