I usually hate it, in discussions over environmental issues like climate change, when people poo poo dire predictions of the consequences of our actions by saying "yes ten years ago they were saying that would be happening today." But in this case I think it's true - I can remember a lot of breathless hoo hah about the coming wonders of virtual reality from the 90's. Mondo 2000, anybody?
