That will help with the dhcp issue.

Just and update, a friend of mine informed me that you can use a DVI to HDMI converter box like this one in conjunction with the Elgato to record digital from the PS3 and it's under $50.

I use it to stream and capture from my PS3 (hoping it works with PS4 also), and it works perfectly, my capture card doesn't support HDCP, and this strips it.

HDMI out from PS3's are encrypted, so you need to bypass it through either an analog signal, or by taking two unencrypted digital signals and splicing them to an HDMI.

  1. Component Output into Component to HDMI box. I don't like this one because it's an analog signal which can get fuzzy.

  2. HDMI to DVI cable with a optical audio (toslink) cable.
    What I use.

It's a pain in the ass for sure.

Not exactly my stuff, but I'll go through some components:

HDMI to DVI Cable for Video:
    https://www.amazon.ca/BlueRigger-Speed-Adapter-Cable-Meters/dp/B004S4R5CK/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1503656207&sr=8-6&keywords=hdmi+to+dvi

DVI is video only, and doesn't have encryption, and it's still a digital signal.

    TOSLink Cable for Audio:
    https://www.amazon.ca/AmazonBasics-Digital-Optical-Audio-Toslink/dp/B00NH11H38/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1503656242&sr=1-3&keywords=toslink+cable

Because you're going HDMI to DVI, you need audio, and the only other audio output on the PS3 is TOSLINK iirc.

DVI + TOSlink to HDMI Box

Digital video, and Digital Audio get spliced into an unencrypted audio/video HDMI signal. Haven't noticed any lag doing this and I've beaten a good number of games on my PS3.

If you're using an Elgato, you can use the throughput to capture on your PC and view on your TV, or you can get another HDMI Splitter box.

Hope that helps. There's no good easy way to capture PS3 without external stuff unfortunately.

Well, I'm not sure how much of this you can personally recommend, but how do you think something like this would go.

Mic: Blue Yeti(POSSIBLY blue yeti pro)

capture card: HD PVR 2 and possibly a HDCP work around such as the monoprice converter box

as for software. I'm thinking audacity for audio, something like vegas pro for editing, but I'm really not sure about capture. Currently I use OBS, but thats mostly for streaming.

Alrighty, time for some critical thinking.

Facts we know:

  • Capture cards have inputs.
  • The PS4 outputs in HDMI and SPDIF
  • You have a capture card
  • HDCP could be an issue
  • There are ways around it
  • There are converters from HDMI to anything(DVI, Component, VGA, etc)
  • You didn't try to Google this at all before posting here
