Dark Sky Map People who have never been to a dark sky area do not think that it is worth the effort to see. People who have gone to a dark sky site are blown away by the amount of stars they can see with their naked eyes. Go on a trip to a dark sky area (dark gray on the map) on a moonless (new moon) night, here is a moon phase calendar.

If you like that, check out Moon Machines. Six episodes, each dealing with the engineering that went into a different aspect of the Apollo missions.

The video is from Moon Machines. Definitely worth watching if you haven't seen it.

Specific for the Apollo program nothing beats Moon Machines.

Not sure on availability in Germany, but there's a decent 6 part series called "Moon Machines" - aired originally on the Discovery Channel. It covers the major components of Apollo and Saturn V. It's filled with interviews of the engineers, discusses major problems, and the solutions thereto.

ETA: I think this is it on Amazon.

ETA2: The six parts are:

  • Saturn V Rocket

  • Command Module

  • Navigation Computer

  • Lunar Module

  • Space Suit

  • Lunar Rover

Check out part 5 of the "Moon Machines" documentation:

I think this is a part of it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJPfSneaPVY

But you should really buy the whole thing or try to find a torrent. Warning: you may have to cry every now and then. It's just about the best documentation ever. Awesome footage and lots of old people telling stuff. Amazingly beautiful.

Sorry for my diction. My mother only taught me german :/

In the Shadow of the Moon and When We left Earth. You can continue with Moon Machines.

On a totally different note, try Trinity: The Atomic Bomb Movie. Yes, it's absolutely mind blowing.
