Hey Woody, if you happen to read this; I have a suggestion for bluetooth hookup... There are devices you can get that will connect to your phone and to a certain signal on the radio, which will let you call and listen to the music on the radio, through your phone. An example would be the Motorola Roadster.

Maybe you've considered this already, but you didn't mention it in the video, so I thought I'd put in my two cents. My family has had one for several years (the original, not the pro), and it works well if you want to make calls over a stock radio in older cars. Just a thought :)

P.S. Coincidental, but my family also just purchased a 5 cyl 2006 VW Jetta. I guess it's not super uncommon.

Edit: The version I originally linked didn't have radio connectability. The first two versions of the Motorola do, though, so I changed the link. :)

Hey, I used to sell Cellphones and Cellphone accessories. If you want to stay legal talking on the phone and use your phone for MP3's and such, check out this.

A friend got one. It's best thing is it's a speakerphone AND it broadcasts through the FM radio. You start getting static from the Music playing, hit the FM button, it scans and finds a suitable station, and announces it. Tune, if it doesn't work, repeat as neccessary. It's pretty darn good.

It's a Bluetooth speaker with FM transmitter, so you can broadcast from your phone to your car speakers.

I had no idea what to search for in the first place. I ended up buying a Motorola Roadster which is absolutely awful.

Don't wear headphones. It's not safe and you'll get a ticket if you get pulled over. Get a bluetooth car speaker kit. Here's the Motorola Roadster 2, which is near the top of the price range for the category:

I've used the Motorola predecessor to this model for about 8 years without issue. It contains an FM transmitter, pairs with your smartphone as a bluetooth device and plays over one of the unused FM stations on your radio (which can be switched if you drive into the range of a broadcast station). Belkin also has something similar for about $30.

Also get a podcast app for your phone and load up on some podcasts before you go. It's nice to have an alternative to music. A couple of my recent favorites are: 99% Percent Invisible from Roman Mars, Answer Me This from Helen Zaltzman and Olly Mann and Serial, season 1, from the This American Life production team.

One of our cars is older and does not have Bluetooth, or an AUX in. I bought a Motorola Roadster: http://www.amazon.com/Motorola-Roadster-Universal-Bluetooth-Speakerphone/dp/B007AQF0WK

I clip it to the visor and then use the Bluetooth with my phone to play the audiobooks. It's good, not great. The battery life is very long, it's super easy to set up and use. The downside is that the sound quality is not nearly as good as the car stereo, but I suppose that is to be expected. Good luck!

Have you considered something like this?

Best option is to get a speakerphone that clips to the visor!

Motorola Roadster 2

•Long battery life
•MicroUSB connector
•Easy to set up and use
•Goes to and wakes from standby when it "hears" the doors close (or trunk)
•Loud
•FM transmitter built in and has a very large range of FM channels between 88.1-107.9 FM (I use this to listen to podcasts)
•Text-to-speech enabled, so it can tell you who is calling
•Capable of voice recognition with a button press

Here are cheaper alternatives but I have no personal experience with them like I do using the aforementioned:

I use this Motorola Bluetooth Speaker FM Transmitter. However, looking at that price it obviously isn't made anymore. You can check out this one or this one.

I know it is kinda a bit of a workaround (connecting it to your phone via bluetooth, then tuning the transmitter to an open station) but it has always worked really well for me. There's not a noticeable(to me) lose in quality, no lagging, and no bluetooth connection loss. I really enjoy it and it works well for calls and what not.

Well you could use a bluetooth fm transmitter. I can't say I've actually heard music played through it to know what the quality is but unless you have a custom system it's probably good enough. I know people who use it for the convenience of listening to music and answering the phone handsfree.
