Just my opinion, I am no expert, but these seem like the best choices as they are popular, and consideration how much work it would take to design them.
Also check the most popular on Amazon, Newegg and PC part picker.

CPUs from one socket look almost the same right?
So a LGA 1151 and AM3+ CPUs.

For RAM, classic PCB with black chips, maybe another one with a very simple heatspreader in different colors, as it would take quite a lot of work to create realistic heatspreaders for little benefit IMO.

Any HDD, they all look similar.

For SSDs, Samsung are the most popular and very simple to do.

Three most popular CPU coolers prolly are CRYORIG H7, Hyper 212 EVO, and Corsair H100i, maybe with addition of a single fan AIO like Corsair H55.

GPUs are tougher:

If you were to order from the US, you would have two very large additional costs: Import taxes and shipping. International shipping, even of small items, can be huge.

For reference, I live in Finland. I just checked on Amazon and this GTX 1070 has an estimated shipping & imports of 152$, totalling 652$, or 554€. I could buy the same card from a retailer for 520€. I checked another, cheaper GTX 1070 (Gigabyte G1 Gaming) and that came out about 20€ cheaper than buying locally.

So because it was in its own market segment, that meant that the artificial price limit that Nvidia set for the AIB's by charging $100 more for their reference cards, which AIB's simply picked up and added to, made it alright?

Price gouging is price gouging.

The Nvidia 1070 was billed in reviews as a sub-$400 card. It didn't hit $400 regularly until March of this year, and then shot back up again to $500 in late April early May, and hasn't recovered.

No one called out Nvidia for "scamming" their review prices then. No one has called out the fact that 1070's are still $500 on Amazon and Newegg, while they are screaming that AMD isn't hitting $400.

This is lunacy. Utter knee jerk lunacy.

Just for clarity, look at the opening comment here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rkiZdSBux9E

And Jay here. https://youtu.be/wmfMfhRI6To?t=120

And Steve GN here. https://youtu.be/4yq7VVW76VY?t=720

Kyle Bitwit here. https://youtu.be/BHH-ycqpYuA?t=91

All of them mentioning a $350-400 price point. A price point the cards didn't hit for almost a year. And you can check 3camels for all of the price trending to prove that to be true. Sales and special deals not withstanding.
Just for Kyles video...

Be sure to select 3rd Party new, which is usually Newegg pricing. When the card was actually in stock, it was almost always above MSRP, with only that slump between March, April, and May, depending on which was in stock at the time.

u/smudi · 5 pointsr/nvidia

Was just looking to make sure the price I mentioned was accurate.

Still $386 at Amazon... if you dont mind filling out a $20 rebate.

Buying from Amazon though... you know they will have your back if anything goes wrong.

I bought an EVGA 1070 FTW from them back in mid august and they offered me a full refund when I contacted them a few days ago about this fiasco. That, is good customer service since I was out of the 30 day refund window.

I've had this board for a couple weeks, so I'll give you a quick review if you're interested.

Some context : I got this board initially because I'm obsessed with smaller form-factor builds, didn't need WiFi, and completely understood Biostar's reputation among enthusiasts, but I didn't want to wait for ASRock, MSI, or the other brands. As much I would have liked a board that had a stronger looking VRM and such, I really didn't want to wait around for the expected release date of those boards only to find they're not coming for another month or something.

Here is my build : R7 1700, 32GB (16x2) Ballistix RAM, 1 M.2 SSD, 4x sata SSDs, GTX 1070, and a 600w PSU. ( <- links if you're interested in specifics)

Anyways, onto the board. Initial impressions were pretty good. Nothing looked cheap except the IO plate which is just a sheet of metal, but that doesn't bother me. What DID bother me was the audio jacks were blocked on the IO plate, so you have to remove bits to make it fit. Getting the prongs to line up properly was a bit of a hassle, too, but not the worst experience I've had with an IO shield.

Everything on the board looked pretty sound. It came with 4x sata cables, and that's about it. Setup couldn't have been easier. I plugged everything in and it booted up with no issues. This board (for me) does however have anywhere from a 5-10 second black screen before reaching the bios every single time. Not really sure what that's about. Also, with raid enabled, the bios will flash for a moment, show the raid console deal, then go back to the bios before booting completely.

I used a Samsung 960 EVO (250GB) M.2 on the back, and it immediately recognized it without any driver fuss. Has been working exceptionally. I have a raid 0 set up in the bios for my 4 other drives hooked into the sata ports. I had no fuss getting an image from my graphics card on the initial boot. Everything just worked.

The bios. It's not exactly sparse considering it's a cheap board, and it's a Biostar, but it's very vague about what everything does. Setting some things up was a bit of a hassle because the lack of documentation and the unhelpful descriptions on the right-hand side. Getting it into raid mode was easy, but fan control is still a bit of a mystery to me, and the overclocking didn't make much sense until I did some research.

The fan control doesn't make much sense in the bios. First off, the fans default to having PWM control off, so both headers will be running at 100% on first boot (which I'm actually glad they do). Manual control doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It gives you a min and max C for different fan speeds, but setting the fan speeds is a bit different. There is a lower percentage (?) speed, and... "speed sensitivity"? I don't know what it means, but manual mode hasn't yielded any results that I could make sense of. I've only messed with it a couple times, but I really don't know what I'm doing in that regard. If anyone has any experience with that, I'd love to hear from you.

Overclocking was a mystery to me for a while. There is no core multiplier settings on the first screen for OC tweaking, and the voltages work with an offset instead of a set value. Eventually I figured out the only real option is to set a P-state overclock (which I like, personally). The catch is, when you enable the P-state overclock, the only value you can change is the core multiplier. If you change the set voltage, it will default to what I assume is a lower P-state. When trying to set my own voltage, it wouldn't run any higher than 2.7GHz. After setting the core clock, you have to back out of the P-state settings and add voltage via the +vcore voltage offset instead. Another note, the P-state overclock is only for P0, I believe.

RAM overclocking seems fine. I haven't touched it hardly at all, but my 2400GHz RAM went up to 2667GHz without any extra voltage. The bios allows you to set timings, and the voltage offset for the RAM and SOC.

Windows setup was a little bit of a mess at first. After the fresh install, it kept crashing after 5-10~ minutes of use, and the only thing that fixed it was eventually making it long enough to install Windows updates (had to do error correction along the way because of a couple failed installs... slow internet is to blame). I think that is more of a Ryzen and Windows thing than it is the board's fault.

I've been running it at ~3.9 @ 1.38V on my 1700 for a couple weeks now. Trying to push it any further past 3.9 just isn't working for me. Not sure if that is a power limit of the 4-pin, or maybe the power delivery just isn't up to it? Maybe my CPU just doesn't like it? Either way, I'm quite happy even reaching 3.9 on my chip, and I'm even more impressed that the board has kept up with it so far.

Hmm... basic stuff. No WiFi, ethernet hasn't given me any issues, IO could maybe use an extra USB port here or there, but it's been enough for me. I'm very glad to see USB-C on there, but I haven't used it just yet. I haven't used the sound card at all. If that is a big factor for you, I can't really say how good it is. I have a DAC/AMP, and my phones definitely cannot be appropriately driven by the built in, so I can't say whether or not it's decent. If you want, I can borrow some other headphones from someone and try it out, but otherwise, not sure what else to say. I'm pretty happy with this little guy. Impressed, even.

If you have any questions, let me know!

EDIT : Added links to parts. Also here is my CPU-Z validation.

there you go, one of the best cards out there for under 400, i would look at all the 1070s and find the one with the highest clock speed and lowest price, with black friday coming up, you should be able to find something

u/thatgermanperson · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

> (BLOWER Version)

Avoid that one, unless you have a very small case where you actually need a blower-design.

I'd recommend the MSI Gaming X as for best cooler and better OC than those other models. (edit: those other two models are fine though! Nothing wrong about those)

>With one of these cards am I able to run the HDMI to the 4k TV I have on the wall and play my Steam games okay on it? Will the 4k scale down to 1080 or will me card try to run the games in 4k and overheat.

You can set the resolution to 4k (if available for the specific game) and play. Depending on the specific game and the visual settings it might not be going to run too well.

You can also display 1080p on your TV. It's either expanded to 4k (like watching a 480p video fullscreen on a 1080p screen) or only a quarter of the screen would be used.

Your GPU might run at 100% but that's okay and does not lead to overheating (unless it doesn't get enough cool air from outside of the case).

u/ilikefishalot · 3 pointsr/buildapc

CPU Cooler: Buy the Cyrorig H7. It's the best in it's price point at the moment, and looks amazing. You won't need a better cooler for anything unless you want to overclock, which you really don't need to do with a CPU as good as yours.

Video Card: For 1080p@60fps, I would advise the GTX 1060 or the RX 480. Both will crush 60fps at 1080p, but if you want extra future-proofing at a higher price, go for the GTX 1070. The 1060(try for 6GB), and the RX 480(try for 8GB) are excellent cards that will run any modern game well, even at 1440p. The 1070 is even better, but only really needed if you want something like Hairworks for The Witcher 3 or intensive mods for Skyrim.

RAM:Since you have a motherboard with 4 RAM slots, get another 2 4GB sticks of your current RAM and run it in quad channel, 16GB in quad channel is amazing for modern games, although your RAM's speed isn't probably high enough nowadays.

PSU:Upgrade if you want to(I'd advise it), but I won't go advising you on any because PSU's can be so inconsistent. Just try for one above 600w that gets good reviews and few failures, unless you feel OK about your current one.

If you have 8GB of RAM, I would just get a video card and a NVMe SSD.

It appears that your board will work with this M.2 adapter and matching M.2(M) drives.
Lycom DT-120, PCIe 3.0 x4 Host Adapter for M.2 NGFF PCIe SSD

Samsung 950 Pro MZ-V5P512BW 512GB M.2 2280 NVMe PCIe 3.0X4 SSD

By not buying the unneeded system upgrade, you can get the much more powerful GTX 1070. The GTX1070 is going to feel faster now, and last longer then the 1060 would have.

MSI GeForce GTX 1070 GAMING X 8G Video Card 8GB GDDR5

Your SSD will be faster and will be in the right shape for next-gen systems. These parts will go into your 6-core Coffee Lake system in 2018.

slam dunk for a factory overclocked 1070 in that range, a 1080 is going to be nearly 700 dollars for most of them. a card like this is a good option

That's a hot tip. It looks like you can get the MSI 1070 from Amazon too, though. No you can't, I just misread the amazon page. It also looks like the EVGA one doesn't ship to Australia?

What's the downside? Can you RMA locally to MSI, or do you have to send it back to Amazon in the US?

But if its red color doesnt suit your build or you dont want to spend the extra, the ARMOR is the next best alternative, though you have to be careful with it so it can last.

If you're getting an MSI GTX 1070, I'd go with the Gaming X 1070, which is only about $10 more and has much better cooling.

Also, that monitor doesn't have displayport as an input, so the only way to get 144fps would be using DVI.

Alright, thanks I think I'll go with the i5 then. Any thoughts on using this for a video card

u/OruPavapettaMalayali · 1 pointr/bangalore

Been wanting to get myself a GTX 1070. But even the prices in US are on the higher side. Probably due to the low supply right now.

According to Nvidia India, there are a lot of middle men involved in getting the 1070's and 1080's to this region. Hence the higher pricing here.

Dealers in SP Road says that third party cards would be coming out by July end. Don't expect anything below 40k for now.

He said he used the PcGamer High end build guide with some changes. He swapped the 1080 to a 1070, the SSD's to a 1TB SSD, he changed the case to a MasterCase Maker 5 Mid-Tower and ordered everything form Amazon

So overall I'm guessing this is his build;

  • CPU: Intel Core i7-6700K - $350
  • GPU: GeForce GTX 1070 - $450
  • Motherboard: Asus ROG Maximus VIII Hero - $215
  • Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 - $145
  • SSD: 1TB Samsung 850 Evo 2.5-inch SATA - $317
  • CPU Cooler: Corsair Hydro Series H100i v2 240mm AIO - $97
  • Optical: LG UH12NS30 - $52
  • PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 80 Plus GOLD - $141
  • Case: MasterCase Maker 5 Mid-Tower Case - $178

Coming to a grand total of 1945$ add shipping to that and you're looking at pretty close to 2 grand.

This build is fucking retarded though.

First of all, you can actually buy a a goddamn prebuilt with almost the same specs for about 400$ cheaper. That HP is just the first one I found, there are dozens of other prebuilts ranging from about 400-100$ cheaper with no real performance loss.

Yeah it's a prebuilt and has bloatware and all that shit, but in terms of performance it's actually pretty much equal to the authors build.

Second, you could just go for a more reasonable part list.

Swap the 6700k to an i5 6500 with the stock cooler and you'll cut 250$ from the price.

Even an i5-6600k with a hyper 212 evo would cost you about 260$, saving almost 200$

Swap the ridiculous motherboard to something decent for about 100-150$ and you're saving another 100$ right there.

32 gigs of RAM is overkill, you could easily go for 16GB DDR4 2400, and save another 70$

Dump the optical drive, who the hell watches BD movies on a PC anyways? If you really need a DVD drive they're like 20$

Swap the ridiculously high end case to something like Fractal Design R5 and save another 50$. R5 is still an excellent and fairly high end case, you could easily go for a 50-80$ mid-tower and save 100$.

I would also swap the 1TB SSD to a 256gb SSD and a 2TB mechanical drive which would be about 160-200$ saving him another 100$. but I can at least understand that someone wants the simplicity of just having a single drive.

With a few simple changes he could save about 450-650$ without losing any performance whatsoever in gaming, and that's without hunting for cheaper prices from somewhere that's not Amazon.

He said he paid about 100$ extra to buy everything from Amazon, so with an updated parts list and using PCpartpicker the price drops down to 1171$ so about 770$ cheaper than the authors build and with no real performance loss.

Your build looks pretty good, but i'll suggest some tweaks.

  1. For the 1070 i'd recommend getting a board partner cooler, they run cooler for the same price https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GAMING-GeForce-GTX-1070/dp/B01GXOX3SW?ie=UTF8&me=ATVPDKIKX0DER&ref_=olp_product_details

  2. You should get a hard drive alongside your SSD. Not every game needs the fast loading speeds of an SSD, and neither do files like music, pictures, and videos.

  3. Try /r/microsoftsoftwareswap for much cheaper windows keys. I'm pretty sure people are able to sell the keys for so cheap there because they have student discounts.

Are 1070s better than the 980 Ti? if so, how do they compare? Would this be a giid substitute?

u/Aarenas52 · 1 pointr/buildapc

oh yea forgot the cards:

3 really good ones here

The prices you listed are fine, I just wanted to spend around 1000$ on an upgrade. Also, before I posted this question I attempted to do some research on my own to see if I was capable enough to buy my own parts(unfortunately no). I was looking at the gtx graphics cards, but the problem I ran across was that I couldn't differentiate between some of the cards I looked at, for example, I don't know what the differences are between these 3 companies and their card variations. Like, what is the difference between MSI, Nvidia, Gigbyte, and the little variations like founders vs windforce etc.

Anybody know what the MSRP for these were on release?

u/Call_Back · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

First PC buyer here:

Trying to decide between this card, and other 1070s and I know little to nothing about the manufacturers. How well does this stack up to these cards:

MSI GAMING GeForce GTX 1070 8GB for $429.99

EVGA GeForce GTX 1070 SC GAMING for $407.99

Any help much appreciated.

Edit: format

This reasonable?

u/MetaJesus · -2 pointsr/buildapcsales

Woot is selling this card new with a 3 year manufacturer's warranty for $50-80 more than used and $80 less than it's historic low on amazon.

It seems worth acknowledging, even if it's not a good deal for what most people on this sub are looking for.

Latest Nvidia Drivers have been causing issues for users(mainly 10xx series users), like blue screens, decreased performance etc. just look after it. News were full of it

>so to yo a 1070, which is MUCH more powerful than a 480, should cost the same as the 480?

Dafuq?!? Are you high or what??
