/r/nofap has some sound science if you aren't persuaded by sound doctrine. Setting up software on your computer, router or for your browser can help, along with getting an accountability partner or making yourself accountable to those you live with by placing the computer in a more public part of your home. You can also order supplements that have been shown to have a statistically significant anaphrodisiac or libido lowering effect, such as this or this. Making a play list of doctrinally sound praise music can also help keep your mind from wandering. Regardless of what you do to help resist temptation, you must also flee from it. Lastly, rebuking the temptation verbally when done in faith can have a mighty result.

With that being said, the greatest and most consistent victory I've ever had over this type of temptation was by focusing squarely on Jesus Christ. Consider that in Matthew 14 where we read about Peter walking out on the waves to meet our Saviour, it was when he looked right or left and was reminded of the waves that he began to sink. It's not unlike driving a car. Do we look at where we don't want to go in order to get where we're going? The hands follow the eyes and so it is with the lust of the eyes and the sin you're struggling with. Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

lithium pretty much saves me from having these weird anxious and dreadful feelings. 5 mg lithium via lithium orotate (equivalent of 120 mg of lithium orotate salt, or one of these tablets) has pretty fantastic safety data, and really can't hurt you at all unless you already have a kidney issue (people get this much lithium a day from drinking groundwater in certain cities). I personally take 20mg a day (four of those tablets) but increased dosages comes with increased risks -- which can be mitigated if you have the money for blood lithium testing (you want less than 1.2 mEq/dl)

600mg of Lithium Orotate is on the low-end pharmaceutically, but not Nootropically.

There are all sorts of claims and studies, many of which still need to be corroborated, indicating that Lithium modulates Dopaminergic and Gabaergic transmission, it can reduce available Norepinephrine, it can enhance Serotonin function, it's neuroprotective, the list is endless.

So there is a benefit to just taking a "regular" dose of Lithium. Tons of people report feeling calmer and more focused from regular doses of 10mg to 120mg of Lithium Orotate. Magnesium works fairly similarly to Lithium, and you could try combining the two, but Lithium is more potent by volume.

However, I'm suggesting that you try it for mood regulation rather than Nootropic value.

I'm essentially suggesting that you take a pharmaceutical-dose of Lithium (not quite, but you know what I mean), using a Nootropic-brand of Lithium. You need to be careful, because Lithium Orotate isn't as well studied as Lithium Carbonate (though, many claim Lithium Orotate is safer). It may take longer to clear, meaning that it could buildup in your body and slowly raise your blood-Lithium level over time. It may be more bioavailable than Lithium Carbonate, meaning that my comparison of the equivalent dosages is off. Based on the studies and anecdotal reports I read, my comparison of dosages seems more or less "accurate", so the buildup is probably the bigger concern. For example, maybe you should only be taking 600mg every 2 days, because it has twice the half-life of Lithium Carbonate. I can't find enough information on it to tell you one way or the other.

Plus, you're claiming that you aren't experiencing hypomania, which means your therapeutic dose would be much lower than someone with mood-cycling.

It's not something that is particularly risky. Like I said, the therapeutic dose for mood regulation is 0.6 mmol/L, and I'm only suggesting you aim for 0.1 mmol/L. It is highly unlikely that you're going to experience Lithium toxicity, even if it does have a longer half-life and/or higher bioavailability. I'm just trying to give you all of the available information, because I'm not a doctor, and you need to be your own advocate here. If you experience acute Lithium toxicity, you'll know pretty quickly. You'll feel sick, dizzy, confused, weak, etc. And if that happens, you just lower the dose or stop taking it.

What I would recommend is, you give 600mg Lithium Orotate a try for 3 months or so. At the end of that 3 months, I'd recommend visiting your doctor and asking her to check your Lithium levels. She'll probably ask "why?", and you'll just tell her "you've been trying an over-the-counter Lithium supplement, and you want to make sure you aren't overdoing it". She might give you some speech about "self-medicating", but whatever, Lithium is literally just an alkali metal on the periodic table of elements (this entire subreddit is about self-medicating). Then, if you're liking the way it makes you feel (or, more importantly, if it's helping) you should ask your general practitioner or Psychiatrist to put you on the real stuff, so you can see what feels like in the 0.4 to 0.6 mmol/L range. Or, if you're not worried about it, just adjust your dosage yourself using the Lithium Orotate (but it's going to get expensive doing it over-the-counter).

I use to take Lithium for some of the same reasons I'm recommending it to you. I was too goofy, I'd talk too much, I'd talk too loud, I'd say whatever popped into my head. I'd encounter a debate in a discussion, and even though I felt like I was being inquisitive or curious, other people felt like I was "trying to argue with them" or "invalidating their opinion". I came off as abrasive, when I was just trying to talk, have fun, make new friends, etc. I got my blood-Lithium level up to 0.7 mmol/L, and my life improved dramatically. I didn't lose my personality or urge to talk (which can happen if your dose is too high), but instead, I became capable of having "more normal", toned-down discussions. More women started showing interest in me, and more men and women wanted to be my friend. Shit was a fucking miracle.

Anyways, sorry for writing so much. I write for a living, and it's easy for me to pound this stuff out in a couple of minutes. I would recommend this brand: https://www.amazon.com/NCI-Advanced-Research-Lithium-Orotate/dp/B000VHCU8M/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=lithium%2Borotate%2BNieper&qid=1558391948&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1

I have found the following to unexpectedly have a clear and noticeable impact on repetitive unwanted thoughts. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000VHCU8M/ref=sr_ph_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492055742&sr=sr-1&keywords=lithium+orotate

Keto is now the final step I'm taking for treating my own depression and anxiety in a series of steps that I've taken that has really worked for me. Depression and anxiety really brought me to my lowest this last winter. I made the following changes in my life:

  1. Started seeing a therapist. Getting an outside perspective on your own thoughts is so important! We should never try to think ourselves out of depression. We need people to tell us we're not crazy and that it's ok and normal to have the thoughts we have. We need a place where we can take off the mask and then have someone that will give us honest feedback about our deepest thoughts.

  2. Got my fulltime schedule at my stressful job to be cut to part-time, and talked to my boss about moving toward a less-stressful role. Had to work through some self guilt on this because I've always had a strict outlook on work and being a hard worker, but now I realize that it's up to me to put my foot down when the stress is too much and prioritize my health.

  3. Started taking a few supplements. I take Lithium Orotate in the mornings when I go to work because it boosts my mood and makes me happier. I also take CBD oil to help with my anxiety, and it has greatly reduced it and helped to normalize my anxiety levels.

  4. Keto! The last bit that was hindering me was lack of motivation and sluggishness. Now that I'm on Keto, my energy levels and motivation for being active are much higher. I haven't felt depression ever since I started this diet. It's amazing!

Try Lithium Orotate that will even your mood out i found that ashwagandha will remove a lot of the stress of the anxiety if you mood is even out with Lithium Orotate.

u/nootrate · 2 pointsr/Drugs

No.

I've had many of the above mentioned feelings and the best thing I found for them was Lithium Orotate. Cheap, easy to get, and it worked from the first day I took it.

I am very weary of it as there are practically no formal studies (that I can find) so I no longer take it daily. But it definitely helps when bad feelings crop up. I always have some on hand.

The reviews here are in line with my experience.

120mg - 240mg (1 - 2 pills) of http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000VHCU8M/

Nowadays I only take one or two every few days, unless things get rough. I'm paranoid of taking too much, though it's probably fine.

When I get anxious or depressed I just take Lithium Orotate. You can buy it over the counter or online. I think more people should take this stuff because just from personal experience I know it works. Other then that maybe try to pick up an active hobby skill like mountain biking or sailing. Change up your environment more and get out of a routine. Voultineer for others, I do this it always seems to feel rewarding to help others.

It has a lot of neurological effects, so it definitely could help. Plus, it's really not too expensive to try. Personally I feel better and sleep better when I take it, and I only take a quartered pill daily.

For me the orotate seemed to do what it needed to in around 2 months after that it seemed the side effects weren't balanced out by the benefits. I've heard similar accounts from more than one person. I took it for around 2 months give or take, started with a quarter of a tab and worked up to a full tab since it made me feel pretty spaced out if I took too much. There aren't many brands out there the one I found (and was reccomended by others) was by Advanced Research. My goal in taking it was to decrease anxiety and to improve sleep though oddly it shouldn't be taken at night since it can keep you awake. And I say oddly here because it definitely has a calming effect but isn't the sleepy kind, I believe it worked with giving be better sleep. I now take it occasionally when I'm feeling anxious and it works as I take it much like magnesium does only with a different feeling.

Thanks for the links. I buy Hans Nieper’s brand from amazon (NCI Advanced Research Dr. Hans Nieper Lithium Orotate Tablets, 120 mg, 200 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000VHCU8M).

I definitely have depression as a symptom and the LiOr has absolutely helped with that. Honestly though one thing I hope to get from a neurologist is a prescription drug to replace the lithium, as it’s an unregulated and relatively unstudied substance.
Also, a note about the Hans Nieper’s brand, is that the pills between bottles can be quite inconsistent. Some bottles will have thinner pills that are hard to split in half, some will have thicker pills that are powdery and break easily, some bottles will have medium thickness pills, but most bottles have some combination of 2 or 3 different thicknesses. It’s been a lifesaver though so I’ve been fearful of trying any other brand when this has been working for me.

Hey man, out of curiosity, the article recommends some brands of lithium containing say ~10mg as lithium orotate. It seems to suggest 1-2mg of lithium per day. I have these which while being ~120mg lithium orotate are only 4.6mg elemental lithium. Not sure if this dose it too high or not.
Interesting this has worked well for you however. I hope you continue if you've found it beneficial.

My statement is correct. You're confusing actual weight with a "serving".

The label must meet a FDA labelling standard which shows the % of the RDA in a "serving" but a serving size is a variable. A serving can be anything from one tablet to the entire bottle.

The weight of a serving of magnesium oxide that contains 100% of the RDA is different than the weight of a serving of magnesium citrate that contains 100% of the RDA.

A quarter teaspoon of mag oxide contains as much magnesium as two huge tablets of citrate, plus the binders and fillers.

Different companies format their labels differently too. Manufacturers can format their label differently and still meet the FDA requirement.

So yes two different brands listing 600mg of X should contain 600mg of X then additional weight to account for the compounds actual weight.

But consider these two labels; NOW Mag Oxide vs Solgar Mag citrate. Yes, both show that a serving is 100% of the RDA but they indicate that in different ways.

https://www.amazon.com/Now-Supplements-Magnesium-Oxide-8-Ounce/dp/B0010B8CBW

vs

https://www.amazon.com/Solgar-Magnesium-Absorbable-Promotes-Suitable/dp/B012T97SDQ/

Look at the shipping weights for each product. The Citrate is 1.1 pounds the Oxide is 8 ounces. Yet the Oxide, which weighs half the amount of the citrate contains over 400 "servings"

There are also different grades of a compound. There exists high elemental magnesium in high quality mag citrate vs low elemental mag in low quality mag citrate, etc. different densities of elemental magnesium across various grades of the compound.

Another example is Lithium Orotate. The labels list the total weight not the elemental lithium weight. In fact, that's notated on the label of most lithium orotate supplements, as well as many other supplements

"Lithium (as lithium Orotate) 120mg (4.6mg as elemental lithium)"

This.

r/nofap changed my life. I was 22 when I stopped masturbating. It was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do.

I just stopped going online altogether as there is temptation everywhere. You are literally just a few clicks or keystrokes away from HD videos of the nastiest and most ungodly sexual acts that man's wicked mind can imagine. It was easier for me to just turn off the internet rather than deal with the urges to google "anal gang bang" or "cumslut milf" and go to Pornhub or Redtube.

At first, it seemed impossible. I got very anxious and crabby all the time. I couldn't sleep. I got headaches. Ugh. Honestly, it was awful.

But after few weeks, and steady doses of lithium orotate that you mentioned, my sex drive diminished to almost zero. Within 3 months, I couldn't even get an erection anymore.

4 years later, I couldn't be happier. I've gained quite a bit of weight and I have problems with frequent urination, which I'm told are side effects to the LO, but I can humbly say I feel like God has helped me conquer the lust that once conquered and discouraged me.
