I've used something like this before and it really helped and adding a small fan or air purifier helped, too!
one thing i would recommend, assuming there is no vertical shaft and it is just a little nook, is to put soundproofing foam on the walls and ceiling of that little alcove. make a little drape to go across the outside and get some sound deadening cloth and make a little "anti-boom" box for when there is thunder or fireworks or she just wants a nice safe quiet place. i have built a few of them for people in my neighborhood, we live close enough to disneyland and doggos FREAK THE FUCK OUT every night when they launch the fireworks. you can make a pretty nice "anti-boom" box for less than 100 dollars.

So my friend and I are moving into our first apartment together and my first apartment outside of college EVER! It's super exciting but also nerve wracking! We found an awesome temporary space. The only issue is that my friends room and my room would share a wall with a door in between. I wouldn't use this door to go in and out of the apartment rooms because it'll cross through my friends room and also because I have my own separate door into the hallway I can use. My friends room technically has 3 doorways but two don't have actual doors in them. She doesn't mind because she'll just put curtains in.
I, on the other hand, do mind that although my room is fully enclosed by two doors, the one that is shared with my friends room has gaps in it and doesn't touch the floor totally. I get anxious thinking about sound pouring through which I know will happen regardless because the walls are thin. Also because I have a boyfriend and my friend is 100% okay with him spending time and we're not going to awkwardly fuck while she's in the other room if we can help it but I do like talking to him into the night and I just want to be a respectful roomate.
How can I close the gaps in the door and sound proof it more. Right now my thoughts are to put towels into the gaps, maybe a sound proofing curtain like the one in the link below and I could also put a tiny dresser in front of the door to just block it more?

Again, I don't need this door because I have my own separate door that lead into the hallway and not to my friends room directly. I hope this makes sense!
We are subletting this place and my guy is cool with us putting doors in for my friends room but I obviously felt weird asking if I could replace his door. That's way to over the top. Any other ideas on what I can do?

Sorry for the shit picture but essentially the pic of of my friends room and that red door leads to my room as well. Again I won't use it because there is a separate door in my room that leads to the main hallway. You can just see those gaps though and I tested out the noise and you can easily hear what one another is doing. Thoughts? Apologies in advance if this is confusing.
