You need to harden up your home and business first. Alarms and cameras are only good for after they stole everything. Alarms to let you know that you've been robbed so you can get pissed off that you've been robbed and cameras to maybe see what they look like, but will not be caught.

Put longer screws into the door strikers. Get something like this for the door.

and a door striker like this.

For your home, while your sleeping, I would get something like this.

We got one of these because we have double doors, it really improved the rigidity.

I’m sorry your feeling of safety and security has been violated in your own home! I had a violent home invasion some years ago and it’s unsettling to have your sanctum sanctorum breached.

I bought a Nightlock. The flat plate screws into the floor in front of your door and you just slide the bracket into it when you’re home for the night. I just fill the holes in the floor in with spackle or wood putty when I move.

If you can’t do that, make sure your deadbolt strikeplate is secured to your door jamb with 3” screws. I’ve heard the short screws that come with most deadbolts don’t offer much resistance to force.

These things were more for my peace of mind. I also got a Blink wifi camera so I could see who was at the door without going near it because I no longer answer the door if I’m not expecting someone I know personally.

What you should take from this is to say what you need to through the door.

Tell them to come back with a warrant, through the door.

Tell them you do not talk to cops on the advice of counsel and your rights under the 5th amendment, through the door.

Now watch this twice.

Right after watching that, do nothing else, buy this

Don't complain later if you dont follow these suggestions, you are welcome.

Home Depot or Menards has several door guards like this which work very well. Pay the extra money for a heavy steal version. You can also add something like this for extra security.... and just to be on the safe side

I don't understand how more people don't have these protecting there homes and business. Not only can you check up on your home in real time when at work, vacation... you also can have it stored directly to your cloud or other device should the police need help identifying a car, person, or crime which your system happened to catch at a previous time.

It's pretty amazing the technology they have now for security systems. I mean you can get a system which you can monitor in real time. It just floors me whenever I see a bank robbery video and it looks like it's from a VCR tape that has been watched 1000 times.
I mean they have HD video systems with cameras which are the size of a pinhole for reasonable prices but yet I still see grainy potato quality images.

I mean Comcast even has systems now.

Did u tell landlord and demand locks to be changed? Add some manual locks. Like 5 in a row. Or buy this door barricade.

Or, consider putting a security camera outside your door.. This one is good too. And pretty inexpensive!

You can even get window alarm which may deter the thief. Or you can install something like this.

Safety first. Buy yourself a taser and bear mace. Keep a small pot full of sand, you can grab a handful and throw it in their eyes. Keep a baseball bat handy.

I have a flashlight that is extremely bright and will strobe to blind an intruder. It’s called Outlight tactical flashlight.

I’m trying to think of what else you can do.... plant something thorny under your windows if possible....

If you have a way of adding a screen door outside, get one or replace your current one with something storm and burglar resistant.

I've got a a Nightlock Security Lock Door Barricade on my french doors. They're bolted into the slab.

u/trabblepvd · 3 pointsr/providence

If you have an outside French door, you better be reinforcing that as well. One swift kick and that thing will fly right open. Seen the aftermath of that in PVD also.

They sell kits to harden them and a strike plate, haven't tried either but they seem worth considering. You probably want to put a slide bolt on the inside of the active door at a minimum.

(not endorsing any of those individual products, just using them as an example of what I'm talking about. )

Next care package should include this.

u/termisique · 1 pointr/nonononoyes

I am. The goal is to get the screws through the door frame itself and into the studs beyond the frame. Another user mentioned that if someone wants to get in they will but most intruders will try a few hits and then move along as they do not want to draw any attention to the break in. There are other products you can buy to further reinforce the door. A few examples below.

Reinforced strike plate

Something similar to the original post but less convenient

u/Throwawayacc1324 · 1 pointr/homedefense

Hi, this is a throwaway account, so you'll only hear from me once.

This product prevents the door from being kicked in http://www.amazon.com/Nightlock-Security-Barricade-Brushed-Nickel/dp/B007Y7PVLK

Also, buy some reinforcement film for your windows and if you have one, sliding door or any glass door.

OP, it sounds like a bad situation you are in. I recommend you buy a firearm and some other self defense tools.

PROTIPS:

____

Make it appear you are at home 24/7.

Buy some dogs. Big dogs.

Get a security system. If you can't afford those, buy motion sensored lights and place them at your front and back door. Also, buy some door alarms.

Stay safe, OP.

I've had this since there was nanny cam footage of a guy kicking down a door and beating the shit out of the home alone wife.

Well for starters securing the non-sliding panel with a Sliding Door Latch. Mount one at the top on the panel and the other part on the jam with 3" screws that will go deep enough into the frame. You can put a second one in the middle or bottom.

From there you can go with products from Nightlock.

Instead of going with a dowel or a fancy security bar attached to the door you can use Nightlock's patio lock.

They also have one that works for both normal & French doors.

edit, There are reviews of these products on youtube, some professional, from the manufacture, many are from diy people. A lot of them are trash but there are a few decent ones.

There are also a scary amount of security footage videos of break-ins & attempted break-ins.
