Most VA monitors list 4ms and are not even close as seen on TFTcentral.co.cu reviews. AU Optronics best AHVA IPS rated at 4ms perform just over on average. That is only with working overdrive if overdrive isn't working then it can be approx 8-12ms average.

The PG279Q with overdrive OFF average at 10.3ms, with overdrive set to normal (optimal) it's 5.2 average. If you set the overdrive to high usually the highest setting there is terrible overshoot. The PG279Q with overdrive set to extreme is 4ms but the overshoot would be extreme and horrible to use.

I had the XF270HU which had a overdrive bug when using freesync, overdrive wasn't working. The ghosting was horrible you need it, i returned it to Acer.

I now have the Nixeus 27EDG and this monitor has variable overdrive and is simply supperb!

They just started taking pre orders of their new updated version NX-27EDGsV2 This is the "s" version with the basic stand. I would suggest getting the NX-27EDG V2 with a adjustable height stand like most good monitors come with it's an extra $20 for the non "S" version.

If you need HDR you have to make some tradeoffs.

The Pixio PX277h is 1440p 144hz(8 bit or 4:2:2 only) 10 bit HDR but can only support 1440p 10 bit 120hz HDR 4:4:4 (HDMI 2.0 limitation), and its been sold out since Nvidia announced Freesync support.

I've personally given up on 1440p 144hz ips monitors. I've researched so many. They all have reviews that mention backlight bleed, ips glow, dead pixels, flickering, whatever the fuck. I'm just done. I doubt TN is so bad like people say on this sub, and TN has stable + cheaper prices, as well as seemingly much better quality assurance.

Most of the monitors here are free sync and I would say have good implementations however I will include a Gsync category.

I would not recommend 4k for the 2080. It would be able to run games around 60 fps at 4k however refresh rate will make things more enjoyable. Also, 4k high refresh rate monitors are currently very expensive.

I do some photo/video editing as a hobby so the IPS would be nice. Just trying to justify if it is worth the extra $100 for IPS (not sure if the Nixeus monitor has any more benefits than that). Any help is appreciated!

If you're not building in the very near future, the issue isn't just budgeting. There are all new parts that will be releasing over the next 6-12 months (3rd gen Ryzen, AMD X570 chipset for mobos, amd navi, Intel Sunny Cove processors, etc). Even if you plan to only shop great sales/deals, in the long run you'll probably be wasting money vs just saving money and buying all at once 6-12 months from now as prices will gradually drop and the sales will get better over time and as new parts are released.

If you want to save some cash I highly recommend this Nixeus EDG27S v2. Only $400 for a solid 1440p, 144Hz, 27", FreeSync (also Gsync compatible), IPS panel, 109% sRGB. You won't find better for the price. I shopped around for weeks for a 1440p 144Hz FreeSync monitor and this is absolutely it for me. Here's a very thorough review that really goes into detail about everything you could possibly want to know, and here's another one that's in a more summarized format.

I've had this monitor for over a month and it is amazing to game on. I think the only downsides are the speakers and the stand. Depending on your setup though both of these negatives can be completely mitigated with external speakers and a vesa mount (it's 100x100 vesa compatible). It's very new and from a not-as-well-known company so it flies under most people's radar, but imo for $400 it's the perfect monitor.

It looks to be a TN panel so the colors probably won't be the greatest. Personally I have a Nixeus EDG 27 it's an IPS 1440p 144hz monitor. I dig it, compared to my other monitor ( AOC G2460PF) it's far and beyond better. I don't really like curved monitors but I would recommend if you want one to find one with an IPS panel.

I wouldn't recommend TN monitor to anyone, so IPS it is, but still with XG2703 you are paying the G-Sync $150 premium tax. You know Freesync monitors work with Nvidia cards as well?

Because you could get something like Nixeus EDG27 V2 and save those $150 while having the same 1440p 144Hz IPS panel.

G-Sync monitors are not really necessary anymore because Freesync now works on Nvidia GPUs. You can save $200 by going for this monitor instead. It has the same exact specs and likely uses the same or a similar panel manufactured by AUO.

I knew I'd run into the situation eventually. I've hung on to my 980TI for quite a while since it was one of the last with DVI and analog out. I figured I could get ready for the video card switch by getting a monitor now. I was surprised how limited my options are for monitors. I then discovered it is only the 1000+ series Nvidia cards that supported free sync. So their fates are tied. Very annoying.

I feel better now that I've read how much you enjoy the upgrade. I think the 2080 is my sweet spot. Now if only the monitor choice was so clear cut.

It's down to the Nixeus, ROG Swift, and Aorus AD27QD. On paper the bells and whistles of the ROG AND Eorus don't seem very tempting. I'd forgotten how annoying it is to monitor shop. I'd wager it is worse than picking a motherboard.

From what I've seen of it, the 5700XT is a pretty high end card, no? Its not a 2080ti but it'll smash most games out nowadays at 60fps+ at 1440p, at least that's from the benchmarks I've seen. Do you think it'd comfortably contend with PS5 era games that'll be out next year? I know its a big guess but realistically isn't it unlikely that PS5 era games will be matching a 2080 ti in the first place? I'm up for upgrading the GPU in 3 years or so anyway.

What are you doing that will require 32gb? 16 is plenty for 99% of users at the moment.

I'm looking for a monitor to pair with a RX 5700 XT. ^(Not sure if this it skirts the edges of what's allowed to be asked but figured I'd ask anyways.)

I believe I'm looking for the best 27" 1440p/144hz+/Freesync(?)/HDR option(s). Based on what I've read the 5700 XT handles that pretty well but feel free to correct my expectations. I'm completely lost when it comes to displays, panels, ect and would appreciate a good benchmark to compare price/features to.

EDIT: Some browsing has lead me to these. The Nixeus seems to be the better of the two options with better color consistency, no ghosting, and freesync on HDMI when compared to the Acer.
