Good compilation. The only downside is that these don't include any cables so if you don't have the right USB-C charger laying around you're in for another $20 which puts most of these on par with the Nyko dock

u/inferno10 · 12 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

If you can wait around a month, Nyko's dock releases on Oct 31

Rather than wait or go for a third party dongle, I moved the components from the official dock into a more compact housing.

u/Alucard400 · 11 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

Amazon also has this on preorder. I ordered from there instead of Lamestop. I'd rather give my business to a better company.

u/BR3VITY · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

There are several out there now and they all seem to work fine. Amazon has many listed. I own this one and it works as advertised. The Nyko one comes with an HDMI and Power Cable so its a good deal. Put the link to the Nyko one below the one I have. https://www.amazon.com/FastSnail-Adapter-Nintendo-Switch-Converter/dp/B074MYLP9C/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1505917683&sr=8-4&keywords=Switch+HDMI+Adapter

I wouldn't do it. The last time I backed a kickstarter in China promising something relatively simple I still got burned.

Apparently Nyko will be releasing a travel dock for about $50

u/the-iek · 6 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I think it is sold out everywhere. In the meantime I found this similar adapter from Nyko, but it will be released in October: https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499327770&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252

  • Screen Protector. I suggest a tempered glass screen protector
  • SD Card. Dpending on how committed you are to digital vs. physical, a 64gb or 128gb should hold you over. Wait for them to go on sale, they go on sale pretty often.
  • Carrying case. I recommend the ButterFox carrying cases, they come in different sizes so pick one that suits you.
  • A stand. By stand I mean something that will hold your Switch and provide access to the USB port for charging. Some recommend the Hori play stand, for me that's a bit too bulky and went with one meant for cellphones, works wonders.
  • Portable battery pack, look for ones with at least 2.1A output to sustain gameplay when charging.
  • Pro controller, it's essential on most games, literally night and day from the joy cons. I suggest getting the Xenoblade version because it has an updated D-Pad that the original has.
  • Another dock, theres a lot of controversy here. There are 3rd party options out there they have been noted as dangerous to your Switch and may brick it and render it useless. From my experience, I've had great success with the Nyko dock and the Best Buy Insignia dock, use these at your own risk. You could play it safe and buy another official Nintendo dock. it's not as cheap however.

Links for all the items I got for your reference:
    Screen Protector
    Memory Card
    Case
    Stand
    Battery Pack
    Pro Controller
    Nyko Dock

Idk if this helps your investigation, but when my switch bricked, it still worked but it didn’t connect to the dock (original or 3rd party) I was however able to charge it using my pro controller usb (or any usb c I’d assume) connected to my computer. I was not able to transfer my saves as I needed to be connected to a AC adapter but Nintendo was able to successfully transfer my saves to a refurbished unit.

When I connected the switch to a 1st party dock, it would charge for half a second and disconnect leaving a blinking green light on the dock until I removed power to it. There was no video signal at all to my tv but everything still worked in handheld mode

Here is the dock my Switch was connected to when it was bricked

Here is a video I made of the issue

What is the current situation for Switch travel docks? The last I heard, the first commercially available travel dock will be available by Nyko starting October 31st.

Are there any other docks that are now/will be available that are worth checking out?

u/Forgotten_Tacos · 2 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

You know these docks are sold at gamestop right? Pretty sure wallmart and target too. No one gives a shit about the review section on those websites and the only place people would see them is amazon.

There are 124 or so reviews 97 of them are verified purchases of those verified purchases there are 53 1 star reviews. What the fuck are you talking about. Learn how to use the review sorter buddy.

I really don't understand why Nyko seems to have a defense force.

>practically none of them

LMAO

I’d get the Nyko travel dock if I were you. It’s small and foldable and takes up way less space than the original dock. I have 2 portable docks, my main dock is in my bedroom, and outside of having the portable docks for travel, I find that the best use I will get from them is just leaving them hooked to the other TVs in my house so that I can dock to whatever TV I’m near without having to unhook the main one from my bedroom and plug it up elsewhere. The price went up a bit, but it’s worth it.

PDP has some kits with some cheap accessories. It includes a case as well, this all costs around 30 bucks (USD)
Nyko has a accessory known as "Clip Grip Power". It's the Joycon grip with a 3000 mAh power bank inside, and a phone stand for the Nintendo Switch Online App. I have one and it's really good, especially if you don't already own a power bank for your switch. This was 25 bucks. Very good price compared to the charging grip by Nintendo.
Split Joycon grips are available for less than 15 bucks, I have a pair (I forget what brand, but most look the same) and they work great. Back to Nyko, they said they are going to make a portable dock that is essentially the same one as the official dock. Here's a amazon link; go to nyko.com for a gamestop release date. https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501733668&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252
As of now, this is supposed to be 50 bucks.
HORI recently made a controller which is cheaper than the pro controller, with a few drawbacks, like it's wired, no gyroscope or NFC reader, and so on. I don't own one; but it's 30 bucks. It seems like a good controller.

Honestly, cases will be on your taste. Some are too big (like that game traveler deluxe case; jeez that's huge.) Some offer too little. You decide. I just stuck with a basic BoTW case with 14 game cards for the future.

If you read the amazon reviews there are a bunch of one star reviews from users having to send their Switches to Nintendo for repairs. Some consoles got bricked (freezes on the switch's splash screen) and some had their USBC ports fried. One user had used it for 2 weeks before it damaged the console.

[Nyko] (https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506493417&sr=8-1&keywords=743840872252) is releasing a portable dock for the Switch. It isn't as small as I would like, but someone could definitely make a smaller one if they removed some of the USB ports or arranged them so they aren't all on the same side of the adapter.

u/Zameshi · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch
u/TemptedTemplar · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

Youre best bet would Nyko's travel docking kit as it will come with a AC adapter with removable USB cord.

Unfortunately the dock is super finicky and requires some specific hardware to accept power. So only a handful of AC adapters will actually power it. There was a list that some one made a while ago so i cant find it; but the only other one that I found that worked was a Gamewill AC adapter, but that has a fixed cord like the official one.

There are a lot of knock-off adapters flying around, but you have to be careful. Most of them don't support the Switch, aren't reliable, or might work but don't come with the correct power adapter. Nyko is set to release a portable dock soon which might work for your needs: https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4/

I understand people are used to third party adapters but they are more commonly problematic and this is coming from someone who has been watching it happen for 20 years working with electronics. Look at the reviews for Nyko on Amazon those issues right at the top are common for cellphones. Many cellphones are not compliant either nor do most third party adapters use "fast" chargers or proper protection to save money and make a cheaper less safe product. Either way its the consumers choice to use an unlicensed product and not the manufactures fault if said product does harm.

Yes you need the dock to play on the TV, the official wall-charger is $30.

If you need another dock, maybe look into the Nyko Mini-dock which is available for pre-order:
https://www.amazon.com/Nyko-Portable-Docking-Kit-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B071X7C1B4

And will ship Oct 3rd

u/StimulatorCam · 1 pointr/AmiiboCanada

$49.99, so it should be about $65 here, so yes we do lose out slightly.

u/juicyjames · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

At the moment, no. However, Nyko is going to sell a smaller third party dock for $45 in the future! Can't find a release date on their site, but Amazon lists it at $50 on October 3, 2017

u/FatBaldWhiteMan · 1 pointr/NintendoSwitch

That Dock is really portable - almost looks to small for my taste (too light), just like a small windblow might be able to push over the switch. I would feel a lot more comfortable with it laying flat.

I'll still hope HORI will make a nice high-quality portable dock.

>Split screen: Split screen is going to be the tournament standard at grass roots events, because we simply can't afford extra monitors nor the space for double screen set ups.

Space I can understand, but how are TVs more expensive than Switches? Each setup can have 2 $150(or less) TVs for the same price of a Switch. You would need the extra TVs for hosting any kind of Splatoon 2 tournament down the line, as well. Now that I think about that, extra TVs are essential for most tournaments that aren't fighting games.

> Having an open bracket with everyone sorting themselves out leads to a very disorganized tournament. Having a set amount of tournament set ups (usually numbered) give me more control of the event as a TO

An open bracket doesn't mean that suddenly everyone is running around willy nilly doing their own thing. I just meant for the brackets for non-seeded players. If it's a small tourney, the entire thing is open bracket. Also, you can still have numbered setups of TVs and docks. I don't know how a BYO set up would lose this.

Fairness is debatable, but New Players is a valid point, mostly from the perspective of entrants that share a single Switch with their siblings.

Stolen property is a risk for every event ever. It's a valid point only if you see it as your responsibility to stop it from happening, which you do. So fair enough.

You lost me on the streaming point because there should only be one or two spectator systems set as streaming systems even if we use the BYO system. The spectator machines never have to be changed out, they need only join the proper Arena for the match they wish to stream.

Docks is a somewhat valid point, but may be alleviated later this year when Nyko's dock releases, depending on its quality.

Correction, upon looking into it, it's apparently Nyko making the stand: amazon link incoming

u/yoda133113 · 1 pointr/Games

If Nyko's scratched the screen, it's because you're doing it wrong. Off brand docks aren't limited to the same form factor as the official one, including options which make it more difficult to scratch anything, thus most are like that one there.

> Displayport alternative mode(same one as the switch dock)

Switch and Samsung DeX don't support DisplayPort Alternate Mode. They use something else that is incompatible but still based on DisplayPort.

This is why none of the USB-C docks and HDMI adapters that laptops use can work with Switch.

Anyway, another alternative third-party dock that exists which you can still (pre-)order is this Nyko one.

u/FoN925 · 0 pointsr/nintendo

A dock at $60?! Pfft! Try $90 MSRP!

I agree with you one million percent, though. There is NO way the dock is worth nearly $100 after tax.

I have a pre-order in for the Nyko Portable Docking Kit, which I was luckily able to get for $44.99, before the price went up to $49.99.

Honestly, I still think even $45 is high, but I'm much more willing to pay $45 than $90.

If we were dealing with literally any other company, I'd agree that the JoyCons may go down in price as technology improves, demand decreases and manufacturing costs decrease. Since we are talking about Nintendo, though, I really doubt they'll drop the prices... ever.

Just look at how much a new Wii U Pro controller still costs today ($50+), for a "dead" console. I can get a new DualShock 4 on Amazon for less than that every day, often around $39.99.
