When used as a third sensor, requires an additional USB 2.0 or higher portOculus Sensor tracks constellations of IR LEDs to translate your movements in VRIdeal for most setups and its standard 1/4 20 mount works with most tripods.360 degree and Room Scale tracking are only supported for 3 sensor configurations. This is an Oculus Rift Accessory - Oculus Rift Headset Sold Separately
You can add a 3rd sensor! (and both Oculus and Steam support it)
https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Sensor-16ft-Repeater-Cable-pc/dp/B0727WDPX6/
You can use up to 4 sensors.
You can purchase them directly from Oculus on the page I linked in my previous post, and you can purchase them from Amazon, Best Buy and elsewhere.
Also, USB 3.0 provides better tracking but isn't required.
Who pays $99USD for an Oculus sensor? Like I agree with everything else in this post but the Sensor and an active USB cable are $60:

>And apparently, the seller is Oculus itself.
It's not, the way Amazon presents listings can give the wrong impression.
Notice it says "Oculus Sensor" and below that,
"By Oculus"
But this just means the sensor is produced by Oculus, not that they are the vendor. Halfway down in the text you'll see;
"Sold by Chelsfield Trading and Fulfilled by Amazon."
There is always some chancers out there trying to sell stuff at way over RRP, I suppose it costs them nothing to try (but their reputation...).
Presume you mean this one;

One correction for you, the extra sensor is $59. You linked to the Touch on your article.

Looks like Amazon has them in stock.
To be fair his comes with an extra sensor, which costs like $60.

However, it will be VERY obvious to you when you need the third sensor. You'll find yourself frequently facing the direction without sensors and visual glitches everywhere, trying to turn around and deal with whatever in game objective you were dealing with previously.
If your not experiencing this then wait :)

Here is the amazon.de link. I only bought stuff from amazon.de so far, but i guess you can buy from amazon.co.uk too and it seems to be a bit cheaper there.
There is also amazon.fr, .es, .i and maybe others, but i never used those before because they don't have english as a language choice...
Only amazon.com sells the sensor separatelly, besides oculus.com, but it costs a lot to ship it and import it in Europe...
In short, yes. The longer answer is that depends on the type of game you're playing (seated: forward-facing is fine vs. roomscale: diagonal corners tends to work better) and a third sensor can be helpful but isn't required. If you can budget an extra $60 for the sensor, though, do it. Amazon sells one that includes a USB 2.0 extension cable for free. I would definitely recommend an Oculus Rift over Windows Mixed Reality so long as you are not going to have a problem with the sensors. One key feature the Rift has over the Lenovo Explorer is IPD adjustment. This is the distance between your pupils and can have a significant impact on whether or not you suffer from VR-induced headaches or nausea. The Rift also has the best controllers on the market, at least until valve releases their Knuckles controllers.
I have provided the links to the products I use.

If you think you're going to be sweating quite a bit (perhaps because of beat saber) I recommend a different facepad by VR Cover.

Like TOO_FUTURE said before me, definitely set up a ceiling rig so you dont have to worry about cables running around the floor.

Lastly, you might want to think about investing in a 3rd Oculus sensor. Having that 360 degree coverage and not having to worry about facing forward all the time will make your VR experience that much better.

They are not IR cameras, more than any digital camera is an IR camera. I already explained all that. All digital cameras detect IR to a certain extent. That doesn't make it an IR camera. In fact, if it was primarily meant to be an IR camera, there would be a visible light filter on it to improve signal to noise. Like this.

That link you posted, and have posted before, isn't what you think. It's just a demo of a Microsoft sample code that displays camera output. As per the code "Find cameras which support color, depth and/or infrared". As per the comments, "Because the release on github don't display the IR camera preview."
You can get a new sensor for around 50 to 60 bucks fwiw. I got mine from amazon for 59. https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Sensor-pc/dp/B0727WDPX6/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1511207621&sr=8-2&keywords=rift+sensor

> Should i hold out for cheaper sensor prices since they are no longer used by any of oculus's shipping products? or will that make them get more expensive? Does anybody have a suggested place to try and find them cheaper than $60?
Amazon, $60. Just get it and be done with it.
Or Best Buy or Amazon, and get it in 2 days.
Rift + touch ($399), 3rd sensor ($59.99). $460 for the pair, unless you meant the $350 I paid. I paid $350 because I bought it from a couple who won it at our company christmas party and had no interest in it, then bought another sensor. I believe it was on sale for $350 at one point (without 3rd sensor) but I think it was a christmas sale.
I would recommend just getting the 3rd sensor while you still can.

Would a sensor like this help? https://www.amazon.com/Oculus-Sensor-16ft-Repeater-Cable-pc/dp/B0727WDPX6/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=sensor+vr&qid=1559019207&s=gateway&sr=8-2 I honestly don’t want to spend more than what I have right now, but I’m open to suggestions. I’m reading some people are having issues too with the new releases 🤔I sent a ticket too. So will see about this.
I didn't say lighthouses. Occulus makes these.

Wait - which products are you talking about? Rift is $400 and Vive is $600. To achieve parity, you should add a sensor for the Rift and the DAS for the Vive - so the difference is more than $200.
Which will give you basically the same experience. Some prefer the Rift, some prefer the Vive. But neither is objectively better.
