I see people that have large fans at their camps but the only battery powered fans I can find are really small and don't do much. Do ya'll bring generators with you to power the larger fans? Or can someone let me know of a decent fan that will help keep the tent slightly cooler and circulate the air a little bit? Trying to beat the heat!!

Last year we tried this one but it wasn't quite as powerful as I was hoping for.

Not sure this link will work. This fan is pretty good plus a nice light. Used it on 3 trips so far. Takes 2 D batteries.

I could get three nights out of it, using the lights occasionally too, so it went as long as I needed it to. Probably longer if I had tried. The one I have like this uses D cell batteries. In 90F temperatures, it kept me pretty cool and provided enough air circulation even with the rain fly on. The only drawback is that it'll be heavy for backpacking; I wouldn't want to carry it if I didn't have to. But if you're just loading in or not that far of a walk, it's a great thing to have.

I brought this: https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Camping-Hurricane-Emergency-Survival/dp/B016HM7QRE

.. and never used the light. Last year, every day by the time I was back at camp it was time to pass out. Never needed a light.

I did use this on my keyfob: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01N04XRJA

...the day it rained and was muddy, to light up the ground as we walked around and avoid the worst of the mud. This thing is STUPID bright and lasts long enough to get you through short term intermittent use like that.

Doesn’t hurt to have a couple of these. Light by night, breeze by day

For equipment I can suggest some things. I am no super lightweight camper/hiker and these things work great for me on a budget so take it with a grain of salt. I camp a couple times a month and have not had any issues with this gear.

Tent - It is about as cheap as it costs to rent a small tent for a couple nights and sets up quick and has a great waterproof base that goes up about 10" so even if it rains and puddles against the tent it stays dry.

Camping Light/Fan - Works great for hanging from the hook from the ceiling of the tent. Nice to have light in the whole tent and a fan in Georgia is very helpful on those hot nights.
Headlamp - Great cheap headlamp (I have a few and attach one to a gallon jug of water for a makeshift lantern)

For a sleeping pad I would suggest going to a store and trying out a few and see what you want for comfort vs. weight. Most of the time I ditch the sleeping bag (unless its pretty far into the winter) and bring a sheet and a small blanket. A hoodie and sweat pants with a sheet is just as comfortable to me but that is all personal preference. I really suggest giving camping a shot! It is a great way to experience nature and have a great weekend on the cheap.

  • EZ-Ups/canopies for camp. My husband and I like to take 2, one for over our tent to help keep it a little cooler in the sun, and one for sitting under.
  • Tapestries to hang on those canopies for extra shade/vibes
  • Solar-powered string lights to decorate camp and help you find it at night
  • Battery powered tent fan - this was my game changer for this summer!
  • eye masks and ear plugs for sleeping

I have 3 battery powered fans. Out of all 3 I think this one is the best one. Its smaller but that makes it portable and it has a lot of power (more than the next two I have) and has rechargeable batteries which are a big plus!

This one is nice to have hanging from the ceiling in your tent and also has a nice light for at night but its not that powerful at all and takes 2 D batteries.

Lastly this is the one you can get from walmart or amazon. It takes the most batteries (6 D batteries) but has pretty good power if its close to you. It can be awkward to position in your tent for it to actually cool you off depending on your sleeping situation...

I used something like this in my tent last year, I had two in my tent with two people. It wasn’t the best but sure helped me sleep through the night.
