It's a very good laptop with a good cooling system however I have a couple of cons

1- One of the 2 Ram slots is soldered so the max memory is 24GB and it has one storage slot as well .

2- It has a small battery

3- the GPU is the Max Q version

Now if you are okay with that the I7-8750H version is much cheaper and it should be very close in performance .

Another good option you should consider is the MSI GE75 this has the full RTX 2080, up to 64GB of RAM and a few storage options or the Omen by HP 2019 17 same specs with Gysnc and a thunderbolt 3 port .

Thought those games are not super intensive and will be played by most laptops today with decent specs, if you want a system that remain at the highest level in performance for several years from not, then you are right in exhausting that budget to get a solid system. This HP OMEN 17-cb0050nr would do an excellent job for you with the most powerful graphics card available in laptops , great 6 core i7 processor, nice build quality and decent heat management.

How important is portability? Are you taking it to classes?

This HP is pretty new and kind of under the radar in terms of reviews, but a great deal for a non Max-Q 2080. But obviously a bit larger than what you are looking at. https://www.amazon.com/HP-17-Inch-i7-9750H-Processor-17-cb0050nr/dp/B07T443QPD

Went with this one:

HP OMEN 17”

RTX 2080 full size version, i7-9750H CPU

1TB HDD / 256GB SSD

16GB RAM. Going to get two 16GB Ballistix LT sticks and upgrade up to 32GB RAM

Also picked up a nice cooling pad for it and some other things.

I ordered an Omen 17 the other day, and it seems to have good specs for the price: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07T443QPD/

For around $2k you're getting:

  • Intel i7-9750H
  • RTX 2080 8 GB
  • 16 GB RAM (2 DIMM)
  • 256 GB SSD & 1 TB HDD
  • 144hz Display
  • And supposedly G-Sync? (not 100% sure on this)

However, mine's coming in on Thursday so I haven't tried it out yet lol, so it's possible this laptop may be utter shite.

This is a really good value laptop i found on Reddit once. I ordered one and will be getting it soon. I think this should be sufficient to run index.

Other options you could consider are the Asus scar/strix laptops with RTX 2070 maxp.
Lenovo legion y740 (they have maxq though)
Razer blade pro 17, Asus zephyrus gx701 (expensive)

New Omen NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Laptop from HP

Omen by HP 17-Inch Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7-9750H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080, 16GB RAM, 1TB Hard Drive, 256GB Solid-State Drive, Windows 10 (17-cb0050nr, Black)

Price Only $1,972

Very much so

> You can get better/similar specs for a lot cheaper, the 7700HQ is laughably slow compared to the 8750H/9750H and the mobile 1080 is, if I'm not mistaken, only around the 2070maxq in terms of speed. If not the 2070maxq, then the regular 2070. You can get a full 2080 laptop for just under $2k, and the average going price is $2.2-2.3k; that's still cheaper than this Triton overall, and it'll run circles around it in performance. RTX 2070 laptops seem to go for $1.6k to $2k, which is significant savings while still providing better performance

Does this model have g-synch ?

The price seems really good for Europe. I have seem some retails have g-synch and other not. But those that get the model without sometimes report in their reviews on amazon.com that they have g-synch.

You cant your i7 2080 version on amazon.de or the UK. They on have the i9 version that way too expensive. But in the USA they have an omen 17 i7 with 2080 and g-sync like your model for $1875 USD which is 1669 euros converted.

With the specs you want, that first one is at least $1,950.00.

Rule out the Alienware because of its 60Hz panel.

The Lenovo Legion looks pretty good. I'd prefer a bigger SSD over a small SSD and a larger HDD, but the SSD+HDD setup is more common on the 17" laptops.

The Xotic Sager works out to $1740 with the specs you want. The Xotic G71r ends up being like $2200.

I don't know the Xotic brand well, so I have a hard time recommending it. That's not saying they're bad. I just don't know them.

Here are some alternatives to consider:

Omen by HP 2019 17-Inch Gaming Laptop, Intel i7-9750H Processor, NVIDIA RTX 2080 8 GB, 16 GB RAM, 256 GB SSD & 1 TB HDD, VR Ready, Windows 10 Home (17-cb0050nr, Black) $1,944.48

Not an HP fan, generally, but I don't think you can get a 2080 in a laptop for cheaper. That i7 is a beast, too. However, the 256GB SSD is kind of a bummer, TBH, but maybe it's a trade-off you can live with for a 2080.

ASUS ROG Strix Scar II GL704GW Gaming Laptop (Intel i7-8750H, 16GB RAM, 512GB Nvme SSD, NVIDIA RTX 2070 8GB, 17.3" Full HD IPS 144Hz 3ms, Windows 10) Gamer Notebook Computer, 17-30.99" $1,799.00

I think Asus makes consistently good hardware, and this PC presents a pretty good value for the specs you want.

Asus ROG Strix Hero III Gaming Laptop, 17.3” 144Hz IPS Type Full HD, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070, Intel Core i7-9750H, 16GB DDR4, 512GB PCIe SSD + 1TB FireCuda, Per-Key RGB KB, Windows 10, G731GW-DB76 $1,999.99

Same note as previous but with a (IMO) cleaner chassis, an additional HDD, and a more powerful i7.

MSI GE75 Raider-646 17.3" Gaming Laptop Computer - Black - Intel Core i7-9750H Processor 2.6GHz; NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2070 8GB GDDR6; 16GB DDR4-2666 RAM; 1TB Solid State Drive $1,899.99

The 1TB SSD is nice and it also has the more powerful i7.
