Peanuts make a great snack in small quantities but they're probably not the greatest base source of protein. You mention eating only 1400 calories a day and wanting to replace 800+ of them with peanuts, and I think you'll find that you're having to go hungry (and drink a lot more to stay hydrated) more often than not, and if that's your only source of protein, it still won't be enough.

For reference, I'm eating between 1300-1400 calories a day and 65-90g of protein daily. I'm probably not the best example out there, but the point is that even if you eat a cup of peanuts a day (clocking in at about 862 calories with 40g of protein almost twice as much fat, which also isn't good) it's still not enough.

I don't know what country you're from, but is amazon available? Powder is expensive in large quantities, but it lasts ages. Something like this is $30USD for a tub, but that tub has 28 servings, so it should last you about a month if you were to take it every day, so that's almost 25g of protein with minimal sugar and fat for about a dollar a day.

If you don't like meat/animal products (do you like fish at all?) you could look to small amounts of grains like quinoa or oats that have some protein. Eggs are also great, and so is dairy. If you can stand to buy plain greek yogurt (you get used to the taste quickly, but if you don't like it you can add a tsp of honey or some fruit and it will keep the sugar content lower). Black beans offer 15g of protein in one cup, which is only about 230 calories with very little fat. Other beans and lentils will tend to have high protein and lower fat, with the added bonus of fiber and other nutrients. You could even have milk or plain soymilk, or cottage cheese.

I really like Optimum Nutrition, particularly because it's pretty easy to mix in my Blender Bottle. Depending on the flavor, it tastes pretty good too.

I use the Natural line of the ON whey protein. Still good stuff & doesn't have the artificial sweeteners or additives in the formula. Vanilla seems to be good for flavor (haven't tried the other kinds).

Two weeks ago, I bought a 2lb container of Pure Protein Vanilla whey powder for around $16. I've used Optimum Nutrition before, but it's nearly twice the price of Pure Protein. I understand that Optimum Nutrition's whey is obviously of a higher quality, but is it truly worth twice the price of Pure Protein? The Pure Protein one tastes absolutely delicious and does have 25g of protein in 150 calories (so 100 calories come from protein).

tl;dr: is Optimum Nutrition whey worth twice the price of Pure Protein's?

I know the feeling. Be careful about eating too much protein (it'll convert to glucose and potentially knock you out of ketosis). My understanding is 0.2grams / lbs for maintenance, up to 1g / lbs for muscle growth.

And I add it to the famous Joe Rogan "Hulk Loads" shake (minus the pear, I add only a small handful of berries). The protein powder is delicious but the overall shake tastes gross and the consistency is awful. So, there's that :)
