They won't fit for 2 reasons:
1: The Oster blades (I tested with a 000) are a touch too long for the Wahl plastic guards and won't physically fit.
2: Even if the Oster blade could fit in the Wahl plastic guard, the tab on the Wahl guard would prevent you from attaching the blade to the 76 / 97.
If you can afford to buy the individual blades, do it. The smoothness of the cut is incredible. If you're going to buy the Oster guards, get the spring loaded guards. The ones that came with the Fast Feed just slip on. You can use them to see if they work for you and then order the combs later.
If his head is ever smooth then he shaves. If it always has at least a bit of fuzz, it's a buzz. If he has clippers he uses, then he probably buzzes.
I have this set and I can't recommend it enough. It's a bit steep but they'll last forever and they give a great cut. They don't include guards though, so I also got these
