I have horrible lighting in my house and this makeup light has been great for me.
I asked for and received a lighted makeup mirror for christmas, sadly it came shattered so we have to return it and get a new one. I now have a say in which one we get, so I thought I'd ask for advice.
I know "natural light" is recommended so my mom grabbed the [ott-lite] (http://amzn.com/B004DN8F4S) and it seems nice, but the mirror seems to spin on it's own between the 5x and 1x (reviews say this is a pretty common problem...) I can deal with it, but I also saw the [jerdon] (http://amzn.com/B0000AFUT3) for around the same price and thought it might be better.
Anyone have any experience with both? Which lighting is better? The Jerdon is quite ugly, but I can hide it away if it is amazing :) The ott-lite isn't much nicer on the eyes, but I can deal with the spinning mirror if it's the best in that price range.
You'll want 2 things, good and bright lighting, and good quality mirror- typically it will flip and be magnified on one side, standard scale on the other.
For the best lighting at that price point, try the OttLite, they sell it at Target and JoAnn Fabrics.

My maid of honor got me this for my bridal shower and it's amazing.
I have this mirror and I love it. the lights mimic daylight, so it portrays makeup very accurately. I’ve had it for 3 years with no issues, and have yet to need to change the bulbs. I like the super magnified side of the mirror for plucking my eyebrows. The mirror sometimes wants to swivel, so I wedged a piece of paper in the crack and it works fine.
I have this one and I like it a lot.
If you don't have your heart completely set on a round one, I just got this mirror about a week ago and I love it. The lighting does look very natural and it's in your price range.
I'm a little bit wary of buying actual makeup on Amazon because some marketplace sellers do sell fakes (of things like Naked palettes & stuff). But, I do really like these acrylic drawers (warning - the units don't stack well with each other), these drawers (which do stack well), and Elta MD Clear sunscreen. I also just ordered some of these 3 gram jars because I like to use them to mix foundation/concealer colors. I also take sample packets and empty them into jars so I don't make a mess. Oh! And of course there's the Ottlite mirror which IMO is the best lighted makeup mirror ever. The mirror itself does tend to swivel on its own, but I just tied a rubber band around one side of the hinge to snug it up.
I personally have a hard time doing eye makeup in a far away mirror. I use a double sided ottlite mirror, which is amazing. One of the mirrors is magnified, so that may be a no. I only use the regular mirror and with the lighting, it is 100% worth it. It's about $50 on amazon.

I have an Ott! It's fantastic, and has great "daylight" bulbs in it. Plus the magnifying side is perfect for eyebrow plucking and up close eyeliner precision.

It's an Ott Lite make up mirror. I got it for Christmas and I love it. Here's a video about them.

I'd recommend an ott-lite mirror, as well as changing the current ceiling bulb (probably to a daylight bulb or something similar to help colors show more true).
I love this brush set. Cheap and really nice quality for a brush set off ebay...
