Any charger intended for NiMh batteries will work but it's worth the investment to get a decent smart charger. You'll get longer life and fuller charges out of your batteries. They can also give you info for matching battery pairs effectively, bringing weak batteries back to life, and determine when a battery is getting weaker.
Also stay away from "rapid chargers" that charge in an hour or less...they are horrible for your batteries and will kill them off quickly.

I recommend something like the Maha Powerex Wizard One charger which you can find on Amazon, etc. At the minimum the new Panasonic chargers that come with the newest Eneloop models are pretty decent for a pack-in smart charger. They have 4 individual charging circuits, peak detection when the battery is full, and charge at a gentle rate.

Yes the batteries that was packed with it last less than a day for me. Maybe I could have wait a bit more since the charge meter in the cliffhouse is not very accurate.

I prefer the pro version if you can get it cheap since 500 charge cycles will last you atleast 2 years of use on a portable like the gameboy. Found them on sale at my local camera store for $20 during the holidays

Ditch the battery packs. If you buy new ones, they'll wind up just like this in a few years. I'd recommend getting some of these Eneloop rechargeable AAs instead. They last a lot longer on one charge than battery packs do, and if you're not playing games, you can use them for other things that aren't controllers. Also, when they eventually stop holding a charge well, they're cheaper to replace than battery packs are.

honestly the reason I gave these batteries a try is because I was fed up with using micro-usb cables to charge my XB1 controllers' play & charge battery packs. The slightest movement would cause the cable come loose, and I'd get a "Controller Disconnected" popup and my lose control right in the middle of a game, usually at the absolute worst time.

I assume these should work fine with 360 controllers, too.

That's why you have at least two sets. One set always fully charged in the wall charger, and the other set in your controller. It takes like 10-20 seconds to swap batteries.

Here's an Energizer set that includes a wall charger and four AA batteries for about $16. I used to use the Xbox One Play and Charge Kit, but it only has one pack, is more expensive ($25-$30), and I've found that those packs tend to wear down quicker than regular batteries. And there are a ton of people here who swear by Eneloop rechargeable batteries, but they're more expensive than the Energizer/Duracell options ($26-$36).

Those are the the 2000mah, the eneloop pros are 2550mah. The pros last a little longer per charge, but the white ones have a longer life span. Either are fine, I went with the pros to have longer battery life.

The white Eneloops barely discharge when not used, which is important since you will have the 2nd pair charged and ready to replace the used ones when you run out of juice. You don't wanna pop in half charged batteries every time.

There are also higher capacity (~2500 mAh) Eneloops compared to the white ones (1900 mAh) but that comes at the expense of lifespan / charge cycles. The white ones are ultra durable, about 2000 charge cycles.

Highly highly highly recommended eneloop rechargeable batteries. A pair can last me a week of playing 2-3 hours per day. Rechargeable battery packs have way less capacity and won't last that long.

Yes eneloop batteries are amazing

Panasonic Eneloop are the best I've ever tried as they have a great low discharge rate. I recommend the Eneloop Pro as they have higher capacity and are made for devices like controllers and remotes.

Others have had some suggestions for the cable approach. Personally, look into good NiMH double aa batteries. The play charge kit is 1400 mah I think, and a good single double AA is closer to 2000. Giving you close to 3 times the capacity overall.

Buy a charger+ 4 battery kit and be done with plugging the controller in to charge.

Just wanted to check in to see if that wall charger (Panasonic K-KJ17MCA4BA) on Amazon is still the best wall charger. I've been reading up on the subreddit the past few days and it seems like if I want to make the jump to the eneloops, I should be buying 2 of those wall charger packs (8 batteries, 2 chargers) for ~$35 on Amazon. On the amazon page you linked, there are "quick chargers" and "standard chargers." Did you pick the standard chargers over the "fast charger" on purpose? I think I have read for phones that not enabling "fast charging" helps the battery life over the lifetime of the phone. I'm not sure if that's kind of the same idea.

Is that same amazon page you linked for the charging pack the best place to get the larger battery-only packs for AA and AAA? In other words, 12/16/24 packs? Also, is there any way to ensure you are getting the 2019 - 2020 battery packs (from the "eneloop 101" link)

I bought one of these eneloop pros from amazon about two years ago. I had to throw away one of the batteries because the charger stopped charging it, but other than that, they are still fine. I do remember reading one of your posts saying that some wall charger discharges the batteries a certain amount per hour they are left in it (i.e. remove the batteries as soon as you see they are done charging). Do you know if the eneloop chargers are smart enough to leave charging all night without them discharging?

I believe you also recommended battery caddies - this is the most popular one on Amazon currently but I don't know if it matters - I'm guessing the only reason is to have the batteries spaced out

It would be used quite often. Her and my sisters take the dog out for a walk and often forget to lock the door. This is the main reason I am looking to get one ASAP.

Weird about the batteries though. Might I suggest these. I bought them June 2016... (I'm looking at my amazon orders to confirm) and I still have only charged them once for a wireless keyboard I use daily... I obviously can't guarantee they will ever last that long for anyone else as I barely believe it myself, but I would definitely try them on whichever lock I end up getting.

Once again, overcharge protection. If you're charging a lithium ion 4.1V battery system using 5V and you don't cut the power off when the cell is ~full, you're in danger of the case splitting and VENTING WITH FLAME.
