Since you're still in school, I'd recommend getting a dozen P209s. They're inexpensive, well built, and you can safely lose a few.

It's a good pencil. Also IMO the thing to look for between a good and cheap mechanical pencil is a metal sleeve at the tip to hold the lead and keep it from breaking. The shitty plastic pens people used in school never worked well because the lead always broke. Metal sleeve + minimum 0.7 lead = good pencil.
