I own a vibration collar which I got for my deaf dog but I never really ended up having to need to use it, I just found it an unnecessary hassle. There's no point in using it around the house since he's typically following me around, and when he isn't it's easier to just go get him when I need him for something. Outside he's always on a leash, so I can just touch him or stop when I need his attention. And I would never use it at the dog park (which is where it would be the most useful) because it'll get destroyed pretty much instantly. It's just this big bulky thing that to be useful he'd have to be wearing it all the time, and this thing just looks crazy uncomfortable and heavy. And I'd have to spend time training him to understand it when it's easier to just get his attention in other ways.

But if you'd find it more useful for your situation this is the one I got http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006FLU206?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

It's a bit pricey and you can probably find a cheaper one with the same function but I got this one because its one of the few that only does vibration rather than vibration+shock. I didn't want one that also has a shock function because I didn't want my roommate to be tempted to use it when I wasn't there.

Something like this might help you with getting his attention and a few basic commands...

Personally, when I trained my dog I started with verbal commands then started using a hand signal with the verbal command, then just used the hand signals. I did it with the intention of not needing to yell when he's off leash and far away from me but it will come in handy if my boy ever loses his hearing. It's probably too late for you now though since his hearing is already gone.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this yet but they make behavior correction collars for dogs that vibrate with a remote.

If you use positive reinforcement (like a small training treat/ happy petting ) each time you vibrate his collar he will learn to associate the vibration with good things and it will help you to get his attention when needed and reward/ show love for good behavior.
