Montblanc pens go up to the thousands, so a few hundred is not bad considering Trump is a billionaire and the President of the United States. Cross is actually affordable for normal people too. For plebs like me though, I'll stick with my Pilot G2 Limited.

Ohto Horizon. Excellently made pen, solid construction, and fun to hold. Not something as conventional as a Pilot or Pentel, so it stands out.
Pentel Energel Alloy. This is one of my favorite pens- I love all the EnerGels, but the metal construction on this is excellent.
Pilot G2 Limited. I prefer the Limited over the regular G2, it's got a very comfortable grip, solid body, and the ink is of course great.

What kind of pen is best mostly depends on your own personal preference and style. If you're happy with a cheapo Bic then use that. I found that I really enjoy both sketching and taking notes with a Pilot G2 Ltd that I've fitted with a Mont Blanc fine-point rollerball refill. First refill lasted ~6mos of moderate use before it started drying out.

Pilot G2 Limited. Not everyone likes it, but, it's got heft, it's made of metal, comes in some classy colors (mine is gray), and it not only takes Pilot refills, but it takes uniball signo and energel refills too! In terms of the thinnest of these... I think you'd like the Machine Era Co. and Pilot Cavaliers -- they are nice and slim, with a decent amount of heft -- both are well-made.
