Do you want to dj or make mixes in Ableton? Djing with Ableton is doable, but it is more suited to performing songs rather than mixing them. Mixx is a free program that has pretty good support for most controllers. This series I think covers a lot of things well. I'm not the best dj, but you only really need to know how to count bars, beatmatch by ear a little, and have good knowledge of your music to make nice mixes. You will probably need a dj controller as well. I have the DDJ-400 and use it with Rekord box and a pair of ATH-M50x, but you can def get something cheaper and still rock it out.
You should check out /r/Beatmatch too. They are a sub specifically for beginner djs.
Good luck!
