http://www.amazon.com/Pixelblocks-Imagination-Set-1200-Pieces/dp/B000BIX3BE You could try those. $0.03 per block, but without the ability to custom order the colors. They do look better than lego too IMO-- They're translucent and look really cool in the light

I don't have any good pictures of what I did with mine available, but just google image search for pixel blocks and you'll find much better work anyways.
