Yeah, I noticed that. I've never played long enough for my switch to die, but I did notice that the battery percentage fell pretty substantially in about the 30-40 minutes that I had it turned on in portable mode at the pool yesterday. It's been so damn hot that the water was like bathwater and we only ended up staying a couple of hours. I swam the first hour and spent the second hour playing turf wars and checking up on the kids. I did have this portable charger with men just in case, but didn't end up needing it.

u/AndIHaveMilesToGo · 10 pointsr/PrimeDay

Yep, look at this portable battery. It's a front page deal and got claimed up really quick. It's claiming 75% off of a price of $159.99, so it's selling for $39.99. This thing is almost always selling for $49.99 and has never been anywhere near $159.99. Shit, the most it has ever cost was $89.99, and that only lasted a few days it seems like.

They're listing right on the Amazon page that you'll be saving $120, but that's such a lie. Like I said, the regular price is only $10 more, not $120. Actually, it was as low as $34.99 three months ago, so even cheaper than it was on sale for!

u/Pokii · 9 pointsr/TheSilphRoad

I usually just take my PoGO+ and one of these big honkin' batteries. It's got 3 USB ports, so my non-existent friends can charge their phones too! I'll take a water bottle too sometimes, but usually not if I can avoid it, since it's pretty big.

Both are pretty cumbersome to carry around, and I prefer to travel light. If anybody knows of any small/light backpacks that they'd recommend, definitely let me know.

u/digitalcolour · 9 pointsr/Coachella

This Battery Pack will last you and a friend the entire weekend with one charge

at least it did for me. I bought 2 for my gf and I and only had to use one with heavy usage (2 iphone 6's, bluetooth speaker)

If all you want is a hand crank radio, there are much cheaper models.

If you want a way to charge your phone when the power goes out, this won't do that very well with the cranking or the solar. Both produce such a small amount of power that you would be cranking for hours for a few percent of charge. The only way this charges a cell phone is if you pre charge it, and then it's just acting as a battery bank, but even then it doesn't hold much energy compared to other battery banks that are much cheaper and hold much more power. This thing holds about 2600mah, which is about enough to charge one cellphone once.

There are many battery banks out there that hold 10 times that (close to 30k mAh) for about $50, so if all you want is reserve power, thats your best bet.

Here is one for $50, decent brand, holds 26,800 mAh, enough to charge most smartphones several times over. There are lots of different sizes and prices, many which can power other things too like a laptop.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012NIQG5E

---

If you want to be able to recharge a battery bank, you don't want to crank it, you want decent solar power. There are lots of larger panels that will charge your phone at full speed. (the one on the red cross one looks like half the size of a smartphone, just enough to run the radio probably).

Here is a 16w panel that folds up, can charge 2 devices at once, and pretty quickly with good sun. The review says it charges their iphone6 plus in 2 hours near noon, and similar time even in a window (still full sun though). Here it is: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HJKJVG2

Keep in mind again, there are tons of different models and brands. You can probably find a cheaper one with less wattage if you don't want to charge so quick, or more wattage if you want to fill up your power banks.

---

I recommend buying a power bank, and a separate solar panel. You could hook up your solar panel to the power bank and fill it up for most of the day as long as there is light, and then you have a (mostly) full power bank to use to charge the various devices when it's dark or raining out.

If you think you could survive overnight with just one phone full of juice, maybe you could skip the battery, but when you have no power you get bored and probably would want to spend more time than normal on the phone, and probably want to charge other devices and family members devices too, so the battery bank makes sense.

If you want a radio, most phones probably do am/fm, if you want a weather radio, get one separate for a few bucks, it will probably include a flashlight and maybe even a crank for emergencies, but shouldn't cost anywhere near what this red cross one does.

I bought one of these on primeday a few years ago. I’ve never regretted it (it was like a $30 Prime day deal then tho. Looks like right now it’s $5 off for prime.)

It’s got 3- 2.4amp charge ports. Enough I never have to worry. Mines weights exactly 1 pound and is no big deal.

Bag check for the monorail at Contemporary is the only place I’ve ever been asked about it. The guard was mesmerized, couldn’t understand what it was. It was actually funny in retrospect.

I don't know if it quite fits your needs but one of my personal emergency lamps consists of:

A big honkin' USB power bank Yeah it's a bit expensive, but considering it's 8 18650 cells (the cheaper banks have only 1 or 2) and some electronics in a case, it's worth the price.

USB lights

That battery bank holds ~100 Wh of energy, and the LEDs are ~1 Watt on full power which is bright enough to light a biggish room adequately. This should theoretically run for ~4 days continuously on full brightness. It will also keep your phone charged for at least a week if you don't use up all the energy on the light. As a note, sometimes you have to press the button on the battery bank before you can turn the led on.

u/BnanaRepublic · 4 pointsr/NintendoSwitch

I'm using a 26800 mah RavPower. I just got back from ten days in Northern China and this battery just kept going. It's the non-USB C version, but it's powerful enough to charge the Switch while playing Zelda and then keep the Switch at 100% for hours. Also, 26800 mah is the largest capacity you're allowed to take on a plane, so it's the perfect travel companion not only for my Switch, but all of my devices.

It's this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012NIQG5E?ref=emc_b_5_t

I bought it locally here in China. Also, I use the USB charging cable that came with my Pro controller.

If he uses an iPad or similar in the cockpit, a deep-charge battery may be in order ($50): https://www.amazon.com/Portable-RAVPower-26800mAh-Technology-Smartphones/dp/B012NIQG5E

I have that RAVPower in my flight bag for every cross-country... 26800mAh capacity is enough to charge my iPad at least 4 times over, or my phone 10 times.

Well first, read through your Coachella welcome guide that comes with your box. It has tons of awesome information on what to expect.

Then, use the search bar and find tons of other threads recommending camping items. Seriously there's so many, nobody will cover them all in this thread.

That being said, here's a copy/pasted comment of mine from another similar thread. These are some of the lesser known items I like to recommend:

> "Individually Wrapped Butt Wipes: low profile enough to stash a couple in your fanny pack or backpack. Make the porta potties wayyy less of a nightmare.

>Individual Pedialyte Packets: never worry about hydration. Just drop one into every water bottle or Camelbak refill. Also tastes amazing in conjunction with "goodies."

>Chelated Magnesium: if your "goodies" make you queasy or clench your teeth a lot.

>Hydro Flask Cup: It's going to be hawt as FUDGE out there. Last thing you want is your drink getting warm. I've left these on the hood of my car by accident and come back to it still full of ice. Amazing.

>Ravpower Portable Charger: this bad boy is one of my favorite purchases ever, not just for Coachella. When this thing's fully charged, it charges a full phone battery around 6-7 times. It charges like twice as fast as my wall outlet charger. It's seriously amazing.

>Individual toilet seat covers - Those camping porta potties are a fucking warzone sometimes.

>I'd also recommend side walls for your EZ Up as extra shade. Tapestries work too. "

u/MerkinMuffintop · 2 pointsr/solar

If you already have a 2000W generator, I can't imagine you'll come out ahead buying a solar setup after two months. From a purely out-of-pocket perspective, you'll be able to buy a lot of gas for the genny before you even come close to panels, battery and inverter. If you were doing a lot of boondocking and wanted to save gas, or you were going places where running the generator was not feasible, then solar would make sense. In your position for this trip, I'd buy one of these, http://amzn.com/B00K0VMXDQ and/or one of these http://amzn.com/B012NIQG5E and use them to recharge electronics at night. Then run the genny for any large loads.

Question...
Other than 5.5 watt vs 30, what's the difference between that and this for half the price nearly?

Assuming that I did not have to charge a laptop, would I be better served getting a second quick charge certified device with 20,000 mah so that I can have a dedicated switch charger and one for tablets and phone?

u/TheLonelyLumen · 2 pointsr/pokemongo

Phone detects the power bank the same way it does any other charger so yes you can keep your phone charging and play.

I have this one for heavy use when my gf and I grind out several heavy 6+ hr sessions that stays in the zip up pocket of my mochi bag.

Beyond this the smaller options will only give you a charge or two max and for what you are doing I wouldn't recommend anything smaller.

u/lilac_meddow · 2 pointsr/BurningMan

I really like the fans that came with it. I am however trying to rethink how I'm going to use them during the burn to keep the dust out. In the next few weeks I'll roam around home depot and hopefully find a filter of sorts that I can retrofit into the existing ports. I use Ravpower rechargable batteries when I go everywhere. They last a long time and charge your stuff crazy fast! I have 2 of them and an anker that's a bit smaller as well. Between all of that I'll have enough power. I think my camp has a grid so I should be able to swap out charges with things.

I use the tent feels very roomy to me. The vestibules are fantastic storage but at 5'8" I can't stand up so if that's what you are looking for try putting a carport or a shade structure of some sort near by.

I know I'm late to the thread but I just want to thank you for setting all this information up. Website's amazing and easy to digest.

I watched a Digital Foundry video on Power Banks for the Switch, and with dead hyperlinks ended up buying this RAVPower 26800, not realizing that there are different models with the same name (and not knowing to look out for certain abbreviations nor what they mean).

Luckily I ran into this thread on a sub I don't browse and was able to return it not realizing the Switch has a USB-C port (and that A-to-C is suboptimal). I was able to get an upgrade (funnily enough not the "upgrade available" model on the first item's page) with minimal turnaround and cost.

I don't have a Switch yet, as I'm getting all my accessories first like microSD cards and cases. But I would have been really bummed to find out how subpar my original power bank would have been while playing on the go for the first time, and your easy-to-use site prevented that.

Thanks again.

In general, red is always positive voltage (Vcc) while black is negative (for DC, 0V or ground). You can power the Pi directly with 5V using the GPIO pins for 5V and GND.

BEWARE That 8xAA battery holder provides 12V which MUST be stepped-down by you to 5V or your Pi will commit suicide in one mighty burst of smoke...

If you don't know how to incorporate a switching DC-DC buck converter to get 5V from a multiple-AA battery pack, please consider a high-capacity USB battery pack which will power an unloaded Pi for at least 36 hours (0.5A).

I will be traveling west and east most of the time. My ideal situation is to have it strapped to my backpack so it can "charge" a bit but then during my breaks set it up so it can soak up that delicious sweet sweet sunlight. There will be about a week delay. I am sending memory cards back to friends who will be hosting the stream. I will have no idea how the stream is going until I get back from my trip.

With this battery bank (26800mAh)(turns out the gopro ones don't exist or something amazon is weird) I would get many many hours out of a fully charged battery bank. So I would just record until the memory card filled up.

You keep mentioning Wh but I can't seem to find that in the specs...Sorry electricity is not my forte. But thank you.

Does QC 3.0 refer to “Quick Charge 3.0”? Why would a battery’s ability to charge impact its ability to power the headset? Not being a smart ass, I’m legitimately concerned? I’m not sure my external has a QC 3.0

A little over 26800 mAh translates to just under 100 watt hours which is the maximum battery capacity allowed on most commercial airlines. But of course, always check the airline's website before flying to make sure. With that amount of battery, you should be able to play for over 11 hours.

I am trying to do a complete carry-on ultra-lightweight interview kit. So I'm an old guy, and not a big guy. But I wanted something I could single-handedly carry on a plane, on a bus, in a cab, as a pedestrian. It should be no more than two cases and I should be able to carry them in one hand while carrying a personal bag in the other. It had to be everything needed for talking head interviews including lights, camera and sound. That means my setup is much more restrictive than yours, but it works. This effort is based on doing quite a few films in Europe using only what I could carry.

Nothing I could find really made it easy. The biggest problem has been powering options, so I made the decision that it had to be small fixtures that could be used close to the subject with reasonable running time. Everything had to be battery-powered no cables or outboard power supplies were needed.

I bring 3 lights and 3 stands. This light is a fairly soft key, adjustable, 18-watts, built-in rechargeable battery. Then I have three of these very small point-source lights, (also with built-in batteries and they come with a variety of gels). One of these is used as a backlight, another for possible light for a background. Add these for mounting one or two of these Lowel umbrellas. These turn the point-lights into a nice, soft fill. Each of these lights will run 60 minutes or more at full power, much longer if reduced. Also, running time can be extended with a couple of these. I can get nice exposure and shallow depth-of-field at ISO 400 or 800. (Double or quadruple operating time at ISO 1600.)

Amazon has this light case that is checkable and can hold this lightweight Velbon tripod with a fluid head plus three or even four of these Neewer stands plus some gels and a small roll of gaffer tape.

My camera case is a small older one with a Nikon label. It holds my Panasonic GH4 or GH5 with 12-60mm lens plus 3 batteries and a USB-powered charger. There's also room for all the lights, an iPad, and a 4-port USB charger, which charges everything.

And...(are you ready for this?) the sound is in this kit, too. The secret here is the PicoGear PicoMic dual wireless mic system. This thing really does what it claims: two wireless mics with good range and run all day and the whole system goes in your pocket, plus the bonus of no body pack or cables to hide.

I'd appreciate your comments.

1500mAh is only a 1.5A charge. That's standard for most battery packs, nothing great. My old Motorola P4000 charges at 1.5A.

This Anker 20,100mAh on Amazon is $79.99 (not Prime) and supports up to 2.4A on standard USB and 3A on Type-C.

Here's a similar Anker 20,100mAh one without Type-C for only $45.99 (Prime). It is limited to 2.4A like all standard USB ports though. It does come with the wall adapter too however.

There's also this 20,100mAh one from RavPower for $55.99 (Prime) that's the same capacity and 2.4A USB and 3A Type-C capability (except it also supports QuickCharge2.0)

Or this RavPower 26,800mAh behemoth for only $49.99 (Prime) without Type-C that will charge up to 2.4A via stadard USB.

Both of the RavPower devices have good reviews and I've never had an issue with them or Anker before.

yeah, I have this one: https://www.amazon.com/RAVPower-Portable-26800mAh-Recharged-Nintendo/dp/B01LRQDAEI/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&qid=1518448115&sr=8-32&keywords=ravpower

I like it because it has power delivery and USB-C to USB-C which means it'll charge the Switch faster, and if you have a good USB-C wall adapter, it'll charge the brick faster too.

But this one: https://www.amazon.com/Portable-Charger-RAVPower-Battery-26800mAh/dp/B012NIQG5E/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1518448103&sr=8-4&keywords=ravpower

is the same capacity without power delivery and USB-C for almost half the price. I got mine on a significant sale ($55) so it was worth it to me, but if I were buying new right now at these prices, I'd probably go for the cheap one. It won't charge the Switch as fast, but you shouldn't have any problem with it not charging fast enough while you're playing games, unless you have multiple things plugged into it at once.

Here is the battery would recommend.

The newest smartphones have aroung 3000mAh batteries. This will allow you to charge your phone completely from 0% to 100% 8 or 9 times. It takes roughly 12 hours to fully charge with a proper amp wall charger. It supports quickcharge and can put out up to 5.5amp. It can also simultaneously charge 3 devices at normal speed, and support through charging (charging a plugged in device while charging the battery). All for $50. Oh and it comes with a very nifty carrying case that fits 2 charging cables perfect.y

This one seems good for a cheaper option. Not sure what the exact amp output it has (says 5.5A max). Might be a good one to use while playing however, even if there will still be battery drain on the Switch.

A iPhone 5 with brightness turned way down and energy saver turned on. Probably two hours.

I put the phone by my leg when I walk so that it turns the screen off as it will vibrate when a pokemon pops. I already know where the stops are unlike the herds of zombie sheeple that stare blindly at there phones as they shuffle along.

..

I also carry this for the family (three phones) --> { https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012NIQG5E } it will do six to seven full phone charges before dying.

I gave this to the kid --> { https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A6L85CC } it gives him two full charges before dying.

..

EDIT: On a side note, carry a small flashlight. It saves you from bumping around and falling down, which will not help your dating life at all. I watched a guy (probably 20-25) walk into a playground ladder because he couldn't look up for 3 seconds. I couldn't help but laugh.
