these pencil crayons are made by the same parent company. (Likely in the same factory) https://www.amazon.ca/PRISMACOLOR-PREMIER-Colored-Assorted-3599TN/dp/B000E23RSQ

I'm also a theater designer! There's lots of sketching, esp if she's still in school A set of prismacolor pencils would be a fantastic gift.

Staedtler Triplus are nice fine liners and Prismacolours are good quality pencil crayons. Michales is always so expensive, so I don't go there often. Not sure how the prices compare to amazon. You might be able to find these at Staples or Walmart if you have one nearby.

I got the 75~ pencil set for like 25$ on amazon. I thought that was pretty fair. https://www.amazon.com/Prismacolor-3599TN-Premier-Colored-72-Count/dp/B000E23RSQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1519627139&sr=8-3&keywords=prismacolor+colored+pencils Seems price went up a bit since but 30~ is still good.

This should run you around $50. I'm recommending mixed media paper and it should take marker/ink as well.

Edit: I missed that she was 10. Prismacolors are pricey, but seem to have dropped a lot in price since the color pencil boom for coloring books. They're still on the higher grade side. But given her age you may want to focus on more of a balance between quantity/quality. Like, buy an inexpensive painting set or art set and a lot of paper/canvas board. They have this: https://www.amazon.com/US-Art-Supply-Piece-Deluxe-additional/dp/B071S7JTY3/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1535990614&sr=8-7&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=art+set&dpPl=1&dpID=61Cgv5p9OEL&ref=plSrch

If she's still at the age where she's playing around a lot doing a bunch of different things with that unbridled enthusiasm kids have I'd go with an art set like the one above. If you feel she's getting more serious (or even keep it in your pocket for another birthday in the future) go with the other one.

Michael's upcharges their products then gives out coupons for sometimes up to 50% off so you'll buy from them thinking it's a good price. I bought my 150 count off of Amazon for under $100. In fact right now Amazon has the same set of 150 including a pencil sharpener and an eraser for about $75. Which is great, and even cheaper than when I bought them.

The 72 count is about $32 right now.

Thank you for this contest. This is a really great idea, and especially wonderful for people that are having a tough time.

I am a graduate student, and I have 3 exams in 2 weeks, plus a presentation the same week as 2 of the exams!! My stress has been through the roof!! Worst of all, I am doing quite badly in most of my classes which has been really making my anxiety and depression worse.

This set of Prismacolor colored pencils would really help me, as I remember hearing that coloring/color therapy works wonders for stress and the issues I mentioned previously. I would use these colored pencils to calmly doodle between trying to juggle all of my work/studies

The newer version is a good one of those where looking at the customer photos is really fun, though my favorite one of those will always be for prismacolors

My friends all swear by Prismacolor

(edit): This particular set is a little closer to 40 but according to them, well worth their money. Not personally a colored pencil fan but have used these and they are kind to my marker obsessed mind and hand.

If pencils are their preferred medium, there are some great deals on Prismacolor pencils on Amazon right now. I've not tried them yet myself (waiting on the order to arrive) but have been wanting a set for years based on reviews and recommendations from others.

Other brands I'd recommend are; Daler Rowney, Derwent, Staedtler and Faber-Castell.

The pencils should be soft and blendable. Watercolour pencils are great too but need specific watercolour paper if water is used with them.
