I looked into this a while ago. Long story short- there are a lot of expensive commercial devices, like automatic door openers, and expensive assistive devices, like for handicapped people. You can also DIY one with some motors and an actuator or something. All of these options are difficult/expensive. Here's an example, and it's $500.

However I think you are better off with a low tech solution here like a pneumatic door closer. Thats the sort of thing usually used on screen doors.

It would close the door, and when you want to leave the door open, there's a catch piece that you slide along the rod and it keeps the door open. Problem solved for well under $50.

Personally I would use this as a training opportunity. Talk with Mom about this first of course. Wait until everybody's gone for the day. Dress yourself up like a burglar, with an over the top baklava mask and sketchy hoodie and black pants. Make sure this gets captured on your camera. Go up to the house, try the door, see it's unlocked, visibly laugh, then walk in and 'steal' a bunch of stuff especially out of the kid's rooms. Make a mess in the process, in a few common areas too (stuff that's easy to clean, like knock couch cushions on the floor). Do this FAST, like a real burglary.

The kid will come home and panic that all their valued crap is gone. They will call you panicked. Ask if they locked the door this morning, because if they didn't then this is their fault because they let the burglar into the house. Have the video ready to send them showing the 'burglar' walking in the unlocked door and walking out with their stuff 30 seconds later (visible timestamps). Tell them you will call the police so they don't call themselves.

Let that sink in for a few hours. Later that night sit them down and talk about how bad it feels to have someone violate the home and take their stuff. Tell them that it's a sad part of life, but there are bad people who would break into their house and take their things or harm them, so it's important to take precautions and keep each other safe. Then tell them that fortunately this burglar was friendly, and they're going to get all their stuff back for free in a few days. But a real burglar would not be friendly, there would be a lot more damage, and they'd never see their stuff ever again. So from now on, what are you going to do when you leave the house?

Hopefully they learn their lesson. If not, each time they leave the door open/unlocked, take something valuable from their room for a few days (as a punishment, not a fake burglary). If they complain, tell them it's important to lock the friendly neighborhood burglar out.
