It’s in a 2012 Corolla S.

57056 - Toyota radio that they used in a bunch of different vehicles. $100 on eBay.

I did have to run a ‘reverse trigger’ wire from the radio to the reverse light.

It does.

I bought a $99 backup camera on Amazon that already has the connector and the 6v-12v doodad.

It is quite literally "plug and play". No wire splicing or cutting at all.

I mounted it in the plastic panel between the license plate lamp and the trunk opener handler. This is the only spot that really required any tools. I had to a) pry off the inner cover (held on by those cheap little plastic pin things), unscrew the plate-light-panel and drill a hole in the plastic. Note that I did NOT have to drill through the hatch - just a plastic trim piece.

I ran the wire through the hatch door, under the side panels, under the door kick panels, behind the dash, and plugged it in to the back of the radio. You Remove the radio, unhook one of the harness plugs in the back, plug the camera wire in where the plug was, plug the plug into the camera wire connector that you just plugged in, and you're done. It only comes on when the car is in reverse.

You can do it with a generic camera too, but there's more wiring involved.

This is the one I got - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00IW8B29K

The kit is a bit weird, it has a yellow, video RCA output->input connection, in line. This is a screenshot of the connection from the kit, though the RCAs are normally plugged together, if that makes sense.

Here is a link to the camera kit.
