If you're willing to add £20 you have the R9 290 which should be 20-30% faster than the R9 280x.

u/RolledUp9s · 4 pointsr/bapcsalesuk

Sapphire Tri-X OC is available at the same price. Take your pick.

Flubit also drops the price to £200.

so it's not that new but i have one of these sat in my london home doing nothing. I have no idea if it works or not , it did 2 years ago but the computer was playing up and in a fit of rage i just ordered a GTX 970 instead.

yours for exactly £0 , if you are in exeter and don't mind waiting for me to get it from London (~26th is my next visit).

I went for the R9 290 Tri-X 4GB OC edition, I will have my fingers crossed that this will be enough for the DK2 - I don't mind having to reduce graphics settings within games so long as I can keep the frame rate up. The cooling on this card so far has been fantastic and the noise levels are 40% lower than the reference card.

If you like the Tri-X cooler, why not go for this open box 290 from Amazon?

u/Mundius · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Not reference cooler. Look for anything that has 2-3 fans, they will get much better performance as the 290 runs hotter than an upset SJW in a desert and it tends to bottleneck itself after it hits 90C. There's a few cheaper XFX Double Dissipations available cheaper than the ASUS 290 that will run fine, but I'd say to just get one of these while it's on sale right now and you'll have amazing performance and it'll run cool. Plus, free heating, although in the UK, that shouldn't be a problem.

u/walruswithwings · 2 pointsr/bapcsalesuk

The 290 is £227, this is the 290X

u/Steveinho · 2 pointsr/buildmeapc

You could upgrade to a R9 290 for £259.99

I'd also suggest perhaps a bigger SSD for £73

u/ElPsyCongr0o · 1 pointr/buildapc

The R9 290 is only £280 on amazon atm http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00HFA44YQ

If you decide to max out your budget, id go for an R9 290 (Tri-X is a great card at this price). It'll run pretty much anything (except day crisis) on ultra, at 60fps and expect it to for a couple years yet! Got mine to play 1440p at 60fps so...

Otherwise a 280 or a 280x

u/Holy__cow · 1 pointr/buildapc

Is this worth the extra money compared with a Nvidia 770?

u/Techonup · 1 pointr/buildapc

90 day warranty is a little short. I'd personally go for this 290 instead, since it provides marginally better performance and a 2-year warranty.

u/wafflz · 1 pointr/buildapc

thank you!! what dimensions should I look for ? Sorry never build a pc before.

Also I was thinking about this or this as Graphics card, what do you think ?

u/Kenny608uk · 1 pointr/buildapc

I need to save some money on my build, so I've found an AMD R9 290 for £214, compared to £290 for a gtx 780/970.. my question is, will there be a significant difference in performance for single screen 1080p gaming?
The card for reference: http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00HFA44YQ/?tag=pcp0f-21

Also my overall build. http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/p/CZsghM

Will this work with this?

u/Lobotomite1 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thanks for the useful input. At the moment the games that I've played so far with my GPU have been able to run at high 60 fps at the least and half the time on 60 fps ultra with games things like bioshock infinte, tomb raider, BL2, arkham city and bf4 (with aa off and mantle on), although on some games I would get FPS drops. The thing is, most of the new games that have come out haven't been very good ports, things like FC4, Advanced Warfare, Watch Dogs and AC Unity (Worst port yet) so I don't know how it would play new games. Do you think a r9 290 would be needed to play new games like GTA5 PC on ultra/high and that my current GPU wouldn't be able to that?
Also, would this r9 290 be good: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-TRI-X-Graphics-Card-PCI-E/dp/B00HFA44YQ/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1420032659&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=amd+r9+290

u/ThatMightyBean · 1 pointr/buildapc

Alright, final question i have is that ive been having another look at graphics cards since you mentioned the r9 280x and have seen the r9 290 for only about £40 more which i'm more than willing to spend. If I were to grab a 750W PSU would this run fine? and any advice on cooling it because the only downside I can see in customer reviews is about the heat of it.

u/Philliphobia · 1 pointr/buildapc

if you're on a budget, maybe consider the R9 290 now that they have gone down in price. pretty close to 970 benchmarks/better in some cases

u/kendo4life1 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

3GB of Videoram might be on the low side, since you're using higher resolution you're gonna be using more V-Ram.

I would suggest getting this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-TRI-X-Graphics-Card-PCI-E/dp/B00HFA44YQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1416347771&sr=8-1&keywords=r9+290x

Still within price range, and a very good graphics card.

u/Daktush · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Obviously a new generation console

-killer card, I'm getting a Radeon r9 290, link to actual graphics card

In the us it will be cheaper though

u/inverterx · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Considering a 770 on newegg for the US is $330 atm (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125463&cm_re=gigabyte_770-_-14-125-463-_-Product)

and a 290 is $370 Atm (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125505&cm_re=r9_290-_-14-125-505-_-Product)

Like i said, I can't recommend at 770 when you could spend 40 bucks more and get a ton more performance for that $40.

Also, i said here in the US the 290 is the better option, i don't know how it is in other countries. You don't have to get angry.

Edit: Well, i just checked, and the sapphire tri x 290 is 358 euros. Still worth the 50 euros IMO considering the tri-x is a beast of a card. (http://www.amazon.es/Sapphire-TRI-X-290-GDDR5-UEFI/dp/B00HFA44YQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1405356621&sr=8-1&keywords=r9+290)

u/Aleczarnder · 1 pointr/pcgaming

The R9 290 Tri-X OC is £341.38 on Amazon right now. Cheaper than most 780s by at least £40 from what I've seen.

Sapphire AMD R9 290 TRI-X OC Graphics Card (4GB, HDMI, PCI-E)

this one https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sapphire-TRI-X-Graphics-Card-HDMI/dp/B00HFA44YQ

u/NotScrollsApparently · 1 pointr/buildapc

What is the difference between these two R9 290 Sapphire Tri-x GPUs?

First one.

Second one.

First one says OC (does it mean it's already overclocked? I don't think I want that), the other one says UEFI.... What does that mean and which one should I get? The price is practically identical.

Sorry about the german language, I'm ordering from amazon.de and I don't think you can switch to english there.
