RAM mount.

Lifeproof case.

Waterproof/waterproof-able USB port adapter.

I use it as a backup GPS. You can pair it with various devices and helmet bluetooth gizmos, to make and take calls, etc. I don't mess with any of that, some folks do and like it. For music I use standard earplugs and an old-school iPod Classic, Babydriver style.

u/NeedmoarCCs · 7 pointsr/motorcycles

Use this with this

u/Limdis · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

I use a similar RAM mount:

Ram Mount Cradle Holder for Universal X-Grip Cellphone/iPhone with 1-Inch Ball - Non-Retail Packaging - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0055PH0XA/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_FPl8BbJKK7V0G

I have had it for about for a year now and it works well. Unlike the one you linked you are able to move it around but you do need additional mounting items. If you think you can mount it with zip ties and the angle is right I would go for it, if not I would check out the one I linked.

u/johnkiniston · 3 pointsr/scooters

One of these + the appropriate base.

https://www.amazon.com/Cradle-Holder-Universal-X-Grip-Cellphone/dp/B0055PH0XA

I've never had a RAM mount fail on me, I've used them for phones, GPS and cameras.

u/jacktheripper14 · 3 pointsr/motorcycles

Yeah, this is the one I bought. There is another one I just saw on amazon when I was getting the link for the one i bought that has the x mount with the silicone holder along with the ball socket arm and a u bolt set up for mounting to the bars. Here is that set up

I have a Samsung s6 edge and the silicone part is pretty tight. I think any phone that is bigger might be too big to fit.

Edit: i screwed up the links, fixed now.

u/myorgsite1 · 2 pointsr/Harley

I bought a cheap one and hated it.

Then got a ram Mount off Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0055PH0XA/ref=yo_ii_img

Needed to get the extension arm and handlebar mount too. All in I think was $40.

Only thing I didn't like was the lock nuts it comes with cause they stop short of tight imo. Replace those with regular nuts for 30 cents and you're good to go. Mine doesn't move, even with all the vibration.

this was the setup recommended to me and its worked great.

A phone mount is worth the money and such an incredibly cheap option compared to only ten years ago when you needed a garmin. Invest in a good case like a life proof or otterbox and get an x grip phone mount by ram (https://www.amazon.com/Cradle-Holder-Universal-X-Grip-Cellphone/dp/B0055PH0XA). IF you really want the best set up, also buy a good USB outlet that connect to your battery and have your phone charge while you ride. An open map sucks battery pretty fast.

As far as apps, use motion x gps road, and download any gps tracks your heart desires. Motion x gps allows you to pre download map tracks to any level of detail you like and works great on airplane mode.

Old school is nice and all but is a different experience and makes progress slower and requires much more planning. I used my phone to navigate the entirety of the Continental Divide Trail, the transamerica trail and hit about 30/50 states a couple summers back and it worked great and eliminates the need for two devices and bulk.

I’ve been thinking about this too! This is what I’ve come up with.

I’ve found this:
Ram Mount V-Shape Base with 1-Inch Ball for Rails and Yokes (Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0030HO6SM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_2sIQCbBSSG4YP

And this:

Along with an arm(which come in various lengths):
Ram Mount Composite Double Socket Arm for 1-Inch Ball Bases https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0074WMQLS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_AuIQCb624VKW5i

I haven’t actually put this together, but the same ball mounts are on my dualsport abd they work well! This may be a pricy solution, but not having to permanently modify something and have the phone mount be modular for various phone types, I think is priceless.

u/jayhat · 2 pointsr/4Runner

Yes its a 1" RAM ball and then the x grip phone mount on an arm. This was the location I mounted mine - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=730MzCb1qfA. He used a different ball mount that would probably work better in this application. I used a regular diamond base ball with two bolts and nuts/washers on the backside. I just had to hack/trim/grind out some plastic trim and molding on the back side to make it work (nothing critical).

My part list was:

Looks like he used this which would arguably work better/lower pro, but not as strong.

As hugoender said, you can simply remove the rubber cover on either your clutch side or brake side handlebar and screw in the ram mount ball.

You have no idea how pissed I was when I found out there is no "off" for mine. Just volume, and if you set it to 0 volume, it still dips the music to talk. Now I use this with this and Waze.

You have to cut it to length but any hack saw or sawsall will do it.

https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B0055PH0XA/ref=yo_ii_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1

u/JingJang · 1 pointr/bikecommuting

I've tried a few.

I have ended up with the following for three bikes:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055PH0XA?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000UGZTQO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012TWRAO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_search_detailpage

The last one attaches to your handlebars, the middle goes in the middle, and the "X-Claw" holds the phone.

I commute ~19 miles a day in an urban environment. I have hopped curbs with this setup successfully and Icebiked over rough uneven icy/snowy terrain.

It probably would not be good enough for single-track or similar.

It has an added benefit in that the design works for almost any smartphone.

The spring in the first one I bought three years ago got soft this summer so I bought the "X-Claw" part to replace it. (which is nice - you fix only the part that isn't working).

Its an awesome setup - I recommend it.

u/theorhettical · 1 pointr/Wrangler

I use a Vector Offroad bar across the dash

It's just like what it looks like, a secure bar across the dash. Low profile, doesn't get in the way. I then use one of these.

With this,

and this.

You can basically customize your dash to fit YOUR exact needs. With all YOUR exact items. It's been nice.

u/shitstainjane · 1 pointr/scooters

What I did was buy a mount for my phone. Then I just use the phone as GPS and for listening to music. The mount that I got was a RAM.

Combination of

(1)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005KWPJ04/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

(2)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012TRIY4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

(3)https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0055PH0XA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

And once mounted it looks something like this

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7637/16884461382_ff02dc7826.jpg

https://farm8.staticflickr.com/7637/16698243270_2cc505695a_z.jpg

Except that I have my phone turned sideways, not straight up like that.

Then I just put my headphones, put on my helmet over it, and attach them to the phone when I need GPS and I am good to go.

Yep. I use the x-grip for my phone, though I use a different base mount. Bought earlier this year and I've done a couple thousand miles with it now -- I really like it.

Here's my full setup: base, arm, grip

u/PigSlam · 1 pointr/apple

The Ram Monut suctoin cups are beefy. They're about the size of the ones glass guys use to handle huge panes of glass, like for a storefront. You do need to keep the window clean and dry where you attach it, but once you do, it doesn't come off.

Here are the parts I used in my CJ:

[xgrip] (http://www.amazon.com/RAM-Universal-X-Grip-Holder-1-Inch/dp/B0055PH0XA/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1375301187&sr=8-2&keywords=ram+mount)

arm

ball/base

Altogether, it costs about $40, but that's not a crazy price for an in-car phone mount, and they don't get much tougher than these (though they do make a bigger series that the company I work for use to mount Android tablets to farm equipment)

You may want a longer arm, depending on where you would bolt it, but I have mine in my CJ right behind my steering wheel so I can use it as a speedometer, since my stock speedo is rather inaccurate. There are many other parts available, so hunt around amazon. I'm not sure if they're available anywhere else; this is the only place I've been able to find them.

Good luck!

It depends what phone you have, whether you want to charge and use it in the rain, short or long journeys.

quadlock is good if they make a case for your phone otherwise you have to stick a universal adapter to the back of the phone/case. If you stick it to a case it has to be a flat smooth case otherwise it might come off.

Ultimateaddons make some strong waterproof cases, good for long journeys or they do a universal mount and lots of different fittings.

Other universal mount options which you fit to your bike using different RAM mounts are Cliff-Top and RAM X-Grip.

u/FullyBaked · 1 pointr/motorcycles

At first I only used this Cardo Scala G4 which installs into almost any helmet. Now I mainly use it just for music. The playback controls are super easy.

Very recently I added a Battery Tender cigarette adapter along with this Ram Handle Bar Base and my existing Ram X-Grip Mountwith a 1" socket arm. I just took it on a good 2 day ride and loved it completely.

u/Ediec · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I use the Sena smh10r. Just dont attach the mic and hide the mic connection behind the padding. And the Ram x has done me good so far.

u/_Keo_ · 1 pointr/motorcycles

Ram stuff is totally worth the price. Start here and click through. You might get lucky and find they have an exact holder for your device. If not I used the X-Grip both on my HD (LOTS of vibrations) and now in my truck.

u/quitit · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I have a [tank bag] (http://www.wunderlichamerica.com/motorcycle/S1000RR/1250216.html) that is for the BMW S1000RR, my friends asked where I got it and how useful it is, and also they commented how it just fits the bike and does not standout like other tank bags.

This [ram mount] (http://www.amazon.com/Ram-Mount-Motorcycle-1-Inch-Black/dp/B001RHVS8I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1421034910&sr=8-1&keywords=ram+mount+triple+tree) with this [cell phone holder] (http://www.amazon.com/Cradle-Holder-Universal-X-Grip-Cellphone/dp/B0055PH0XA). You can use the ram mount with other ball joint mounting system such as placing your action cam on it for a bike's PoV shot.

u/RYLOFOSHO · 1 pointr/motorcycles

This one doesn't look bad

edit: wrong link, fixed it

u/sparksterz · 1 pointr/motorcycles

So my setup is similar to /u/RocketGrouch but a bit more rudimentary. The over view is Ram mount, usb cable, battery tender pigtail to usb connector.

Ram mount parts I used: handlebar mount, connector bracket, phone holder.

I already had a battery tender setup, so figured using this was a no brain-er.

Then I used these cloth braided cables. Didn't know how much length I'd need, but the 6.5 feet was perfect for my use. Allowed me to tuck it around my tank, under my speedo housing shroud and discretely to the handle bars without slack that would risk getting caught.

Certainly not the prettiest solution out there, but I only use this set-up sparingly and store it in my rear bag.

u/Surefire · 1 pointr/ft86

OOH, You are just the person I need!

The actual mounting part: Can you unscrew the ring around that balljoint to put in a different ball joint?

I want to use this instead of something that attaches to the L-hook bracket thing.

None of their compatible phone holders that attach to the actual mounting bracket appeal to me.

Picture because easier.

u/EolianPipes · 1 pointr/htcone

I got the Ram Mount X-Grip. I had read a ton of reviews and it seemed that it could hold just about any phone and be sturdy enough over time. It's been about 6 months now and I still love it.

http://www.amazon.com/Cradle-Holder-Universal-X-Grip-Cellphone/dp/B0055PH0XA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1407006350&sr=8-1&keywords=ram+cell+phone+mount

Ram Mount X Grip for iPhone 6s.

I post this to get feedback from riders who used the Ram X Grip with an iPhone 6s (not plus).

According to Amazon reviews, the original x grip interferes with the volume/power buttons of iPhone 6s ( and apparently 6s + too).

Then Ram offered the x grip large apparently to better fit iPhone 6 + and 6s + and other large droids.

I noticed that there are reviews that reported the same previous problem with interference with volume buttons of iPhone 6s even with the newer mount.

Any thoughts? Did it work for you just fine? Or is there another RAM alternative? I don't use a case for my iPhone.

I'm planning on pairing this with the RAM tough claw on an 07 FZ1.

u/Damean1 · 1 pointr/uberdrivers

I got you fam. Fits my note 10+ in a symmetry otterbox case with room for more if needed.

Or rig up something with a Ram x mount

u/pbae · 1 pointr/motorcycles

I highly suggest a Ram Mount.

You'll need 3 pieces to make it work for your bike.

First, you'll need a base. I use this one: http://www.amazon.com/RAM-Motorcycle-Base-Hole-Ball/dp/B0012TRIY4/ref=sr_1_25?ie=UTF8&qid=1404890887&sr=8-25&keywords=Ram+Mount

But there are other bases available. Check out what Ram has and pick which suits you best.

Next, you'll need an arm that attaches to the base. Ram has 3 different lengths available but they look like this: http://www.amazon.com/Mounts-Composite-Double-Socket-RAP-B-201U/dp/B0074WMQLS/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1404890870&sr=8-9&keywords=Ram+Mount

And the last thing you'll need is mount. I use the X-Grip which looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/RAM-Universal-X-Grip-Holder-1-Inch/dp/B0055PH0XA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1404890870&sr=8-1&keywords=Ram+Mount

But I use it for my cell phone and not a GPS.

If the X-Mount isn't suitable for your GPS unit, you could see if Ram has a specific bracket for your particular GPS from their website which you could find here: http://www.rammount.com/Products/GPSMounts/tabid/135/Default.aspx#/

But if you go that route, you'll need a 4th piece to attach the bracket to and it looks like this: http://www.amazon.com/RAM-Mounts-RAM-B-238-2-43-Diamond/dp/B002KO5XVU/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1404891383&sr=8-5&keywords=Ram+Mount

Hope this helps out and good luck.

BTW, how do you like the GW250? I am very interested in getting one of those.
