I work at a dog rescue and we feed our in-house dogs, and encourage our adopters and foster to also feed, a raw diet. This raw diet includes meaty bones and slightly cooked, appropriate fruits and veg. The diet is designed to closely replicate what a dog would eat if it lived in the wild.
Every one of our dogs who was on kibble and switched to raw is doing vastly better than they were.
But if you can't feed raw, you have to feed no grain. Dogs are not built to digest grain, and it being a part of the diet can lead to allergies at the very least.
