The included Google Pixel 2 adapter is utter garbage. It might have a nice small form factor but the sound quality is really crappy.
I bought a Razer USB-C to 3.5MM adapter and it's working substantially better. Huge boost in sound quality, no connection issues, and the build quality of the adapter itself has braided cables and an aluminum body to house the DAC.

Go for this instead, don't bank on Google to make you a quality product. You won't get it.

And if you contact Google support, they even said they would refund my credit card the cost of getting elsewhere due to their shortage.
You have to go through Rogers and it can be a major pain in the ass.
Do yourself a favour and just buy the replacement, it's $10.
You can also go for the higher quality Razer dongle, with (supposedly) much better sound and build quality.

The Razer Phone dac usb-c cable is amazing.
Sounds better than my LG V20 and has the same driving power. I highly recommend trying it out. It is cheap and easy to give it a try.
I imagine the usb-c power delivery gives a lot of potential to usb-c dacs.
Would something like this work? Not exactly this one, it's just the first one I found.
E1 seems to be better used as a basic headphone amp from a clean source than a DAC, unless you're working with truly terrible onboard audio. I bought one years ago simply because my old phone's headphone output was insufficient volume to hear movie audio while on an airplane.
If you're looking for a decent cheap DAC, the Razer USB-C audio adapter is not a bad way to spend $20. You'll also need a USB-C female to USB male adapter to use it with a regular USB port.

It takes care of the annoying vibration crappy sound with bass causes by having your phone max volume.
